Hello Pajeet (or is it Mohammed?)... Windows XP had a file picker with thumbnails. How old is Windows XP?
It's 2017... Linuxtards still can't code a file picker with thumbnails.
How fucking sad is that?
Why don't you add it yourself, anon?

So, where are the thumbnails in that picture, anon?????
>>58654404
Actually, Linux does have a file picker with thumbnails. People just won't use it because they're too intelligent to use a sane DE that isn't GTK based.

you have to go back to plebbit, anon.

Fuck linux
>>58654555
You don't seem to understand what a DE is.

Yeah, I hope GNOME and GTK die out as soon as possible. Linux would be a lot better if all the software used Qt.

people in this thread say to use KDE for a proper file picker

that's KDE you retard. any distro with KDE can have that file picker.

True. This is the default KDE file picker.
But have you ever tried to get it to work with GTK apps on a KDE based system?
I used to be a long time KDE user, but I never, ever (except on suse) had the KDE picker on firefox (or inkscape, or gimp, or libreoffice).
Those fuckers always default to the GTK abomination.
And now I am on gnome and I have to use this shit everywhere.
Its horrible.
How gnome (or GTK based stuff) managed to become the defacto default "Linux" is beyond me. Its utter shit.
And it looks the part.
sudo apt-get install gnome-sushi

Good luck without using KDE. Dependencies are a nightmare.
>>58654496
its indeed depending on what file picker you use, it's just that Gnome use shit app.
KDE use Dolphin but you can use Dolphin on Gnome or on XFCE

On Gentoo, you kind a just emerge kdialog with the smallest set of USE-flags useful to you.
On binary distros, you can usually kinda forget getting it without pulling a bigger part of KDE.
Then again, it's what the OSX and Windows users in this thread have. Every. Time. All of it. With *far* more bloated binaries - your KDE update is quite small in comparison.
Ultimately it won't really hurt to have this little data lie around anyhow.
>>58659680

is there a way to use thunar instead of the gtk file picker in firefox?
>>58654317

>>58654468
I'd use KDE if its hidpi scaling isn't utterly broken.
>>58659529
>Win20k had integrated media preview.
It was cool having a play button in that preview window but useless since most just had Winamp, WMP, RealPlayer etc.
>>58659807
Why would it be broken?
Muh Hidpi marketing shit means nothing in particular. It just scales to what Xorg detects.
>>58659068
You can compile Firefox with the Rosenauer patches though.
Works just as well on gentoo.
>>58659829
PS: Someone doing this and accelerated desktop effects in 2009, for nostalgia.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhMErNsEoZw
Oh sure, the multi-GPU acceleration and stuff wasn't quite as easy as it is now or like it's on Wayland, but that's ultimately besides the point. Thing is, Xorg has scaled to whatever resolution for a long ass time now, and for the most part, so has KDE.
Meh.
You don't like dark themes here.
>>58659845

it's freedesktop.org's fault
fucking notifications are modular. want a new notification daemon? you got one.
file pickers are part of the toolkit even though they just take a starting path and return a selected file or list of selected files. impossibile to make modular! no, really, gtk just didn't want to refactor shit...

GTK2 only.
>>58660072
>it's freedesktop.org's fault

This actually makes sense anon.
It could be trivial to select a file picker.
If we set a file picker preference it gets user or the toolkit (GTK,QT) will use the native file picker.
Why hasn't anyone submitted an RFC to freedesktop.org?

I really want GTK+3 file picker with thumbnails.
>>58660302

Crap. Looks like it's pointless to even try this at this point. I use Ungoogled-Chromium and ever only want thumbs when I'm posting on here.
>>58660370
I have an idea
someone should write an universal JS wrapper, that will replace all "choose file" buttons on websites with an imitation, that will instead use xdg to launch an app chosen by user to pick a file, and then pass the file's path back to "choose file" button/widget
don't know if that's even possible
>>58660431
You can already upload files with drag and drop
It just needs some JavaScript on the part of the site
>>58660431
That's a great idea bro!
>>58660455
>You can already upload files with drag and drop
That's actually what I do. I use Nemo (because you can easily adjust the size of thumbs) and just D&D to Files button.

Quite ironic that ever fucking GTK bases file MANAGER defaults to the horribly useless (except for that one specific situation we are talking about…) icon view.

lmAO!
>>58653916
So instead of clicking the "browse" button and searching for the image, just open your file manager itself (which does have full thumbnail view), search for the image and drag&drop. It's literally the same.
