/g/ I have a problem. After trying out Ubuntu GNOME in a VM, I became really fond of the UI and decided to properly install it on my PC. Problem is, whenever I start up the mouse and WiFi don't work. The mouse pointer is just stuck at the top left. The mouse works in that I can move it around and it has an "invisible" pointer, but it's pretty much unusable without being able to see where I'm moving it. Did some research and found out this is a problem with NVIDIA drivers not being installed, but since I can't connect to WiFi it's pretty difficult to install these.

I tried to install the WiFi drivers but these require lots of dependencies (gcc, libc6-dev, etc.). Obviously I can't just apt install these. IS there any good way to install packages along with all dependencies without having net access? I have internet access on my Windows partition so ideally I'd like to install the .deb packages there, then transfer these to the Ubuntu partition and install them manually. How to do this?

I would connect to your network with an ethernet cable if possible. otherwise you are going to be installing everything one file at a time. unless you can run a virtual box under windows and chroot into your linux install

I tried an ethernet cable but it didn't recognize it. Could it be a problem with motherboard drivers not being installed on the Linux partition, or was the calbe just faulty?

Conect to an ethernet cable, then go to settings, software, additional drivers and select the nvidia driver, it will install and then reboot.

try rebooting with the cable connected, or open terminal and try 'ifconfig' it should display your IP etc

Found your issue

plug in the ethernet cable
open up terminal
type:
ip link and hit enter
take note of the ethernet name, usually something like eth0 or ens33
type:
sudo ip link set dev [ethernet name] up
next:
ping www.google.com

Just give up dude, install Gentoo instead, a much easier route.
