It has 0 uses for anything that is not extremely high level competition in multiplayer gaming. I shake my head when I see people on single player games, or multiplayer games of high latency (e.g. MMORPGs) caring about it, or god forbid for movie playback.

The main feature of Freesync 2 is supporting new HDR freesync monitors. It's pretty neat and will look great at a convention booth but I don't know how many people will actually care about this. Freesync is dope because it doesn't have an extra $200 Nvidia tax added on.

Also being able to turn off Freesync and just having a 144 hz 1ms 24" monitor is pretty great too.

Basically the GPU is able to tell the monitor when it's going to output the next frame. The monitor will then alter the refresh rate in order to display it sooner rather than later to avoid screen tearing.
