Why are so many plebs too dumb to use these terms correctly?

Why are so many plebs too dumb to use these terms correctly?
>>
The real pleb is the one who used a shitty picture to represent latency as a distance.

Kys
>>
>>58635125
What else would latency be?
>>
>>58635148
Time, you illiterate. Did you ever take a single science class?
>Latency is a time interval between the stimulation and response, or, from a more general point of view, a time delay between the cause and the effect of some physical change in the system being observed.

Your diagram seems to indicate that the internet won't fit inside the bandwidth pipe, but the web will. Interesting.

Only term that fits into God Tier is Information Super-Highway
>>
>>58635192
If you weren't fucking autistic, you'd realize that many people measure distance in time, and in a non-animated graphic, it's the better anology.
>>
OP is a latent homosexual.
>>
>>58636737
>many people measure distance in time

so how many minutes tall are you?
>>
>>58637014
I think his ideas are a bit confused maybe he was referring to the fact that time and distance are correlated mostly in logistics and transport. Nobody tells you how many miles they did to get from a to b what matters is to associate it with the time it took

That's why i think he may say something like that
>>
>>58637014
>so how many minutes tall are you?
about 6 nanoseconds * c
>>
>>58637226
I'm not confused; that's exactly what I'm referring to. Most people make have a pretty deeply ingrained connection between distance and time.

When you're on your way to a friend's place and they ask how close you are, you probably say about five minutes, not 3.5 miles or 7 blocks.

When trying to explain latency to Average Joe in a *still image where you cannot convey passage of time*, measuring with distance is probably your best bet.

>>58637014
About two seconds, if you want to be a smartass.
>>
>>58637014
Couldn't something like that technically work? If you're walking at (speed) and the person is laying down completely flat, how long would it take to walk the distance from the top of their head to their feet? Though that would be very odd.
>>
>>58637370
Indeed. This is how a lot of people measure distance, albeit not for such short distances.
>>
>>58637331
Nice where is my redditt gold... or karma??

Deposit to the account number i pm'd you :^)
>>
The meter is literally defined in terms of time.
>>
>>58637331
You are confused. You cannot measure distance in time without the required velocity component. i.e.

velocity = distance / time

If everything moved at the same speed and velocity was a fixed variable perhaps you'd be on to something.
>>
>>58637454
You can assume that there's a velocity present, especially in a still image that is already trying to an abstract an idea.

I am aware that if you have Aspergers and take everything hyper-literally, this abstraction won't cut it. Most people can fill in the gaps.

Learn the difference between scalars and vectors. Velocity isn't interchangeable with speed in general. The correct equation is
speed = distance / time

When speed is constant distance and time represent the same concept (they only differ by a scaling factor). OP was not wrong in using distance to represent latency.

It is also perfectly reasonable to assume that on average information goes through the internet at a constant speed.

what's that in microwave time?

That's bitrate not bandwidth
>>
>>58638795
This is correct, but you're still retarded if you're trying to compare distance with time, or a constant with a variable. Assuming you're >>58638667.

>>
>>58637331
So you're just scientifically illiterate. This >>58637454 guy is correct. And there's nothing wrong with responding with "I'm 3.5 miles away" as it's the correct answer to the question "how close are you". People often say things that aren't correct, but you shouldn't mix slang with science or facts.
>>
>>58638976
bitrate = immediate usage
bandwidth = available capacity

for example, "i am streaming a 15Mb/s bitrate video over a 50Mb/s bandwidth link"
