I wanted to throw up a webpage with a domain. I haven't used any hosting for about 8 years though. Last time I did I was using 1and1. Are they still any good? If not, who would you recommend?
Also, what are the pros/cons of registering a domain with the same company that is doing the hosting?
(pic not related).

If you're not expecting much traffic, it's probably not worth paying for a host, and just host it yourself.

I'm not expecting much sustained traffic. But perhaps a lot at once. I don't have a home server either, so I would have to keep my desktop on 24/7 if I want to keep the site up, which I'm not sure I want to do.

But if I did host it myself, what are some good domain registration services?

Namecheap. They're big and notshit.

Something to consider against hosting it yourself: If for anyone reason someone decides to DOS you, YOU get DOSed, not just your website. If you're doing bullshit that doesn't matter, that's bad. If you're doing crucial stuff where you want to take down the site if that happens in case it's a coverup for shady shit, yeah, host it where you can do that.

m8 you're only gonna get a lot at once if you're the only place on the internet with new celeberty nudes

There are surprisingly cheap vps providers if your project is small enough
https://www.arubacloud.com/vps/virtual-private-server-range.aspx
I tried their 1€/month one recently, they seem to manually validate orders so i had to wait business hours to get my box running but it's cheap and has been working since then so whatever
