All I've had experienced and heard of others experiencing with win7 lately is that clean installing is a royal pain in the ass and nearly impossible tier due to how Microsoft has fucked with update servers, unless of course you want to install and leave it as SP1 with zero updates.

I have a Win7 sp1 desktop with no antivirus and updates disabled. I use it for music production, and I have to be very careful if I use the internet/download stuff because I know it's very vulnerable

I'm paranoid, I won't even use email, check bank account, pirate software on it. My main computer is a laptop which runs Linux Mint and I use it for everything but music production. I wish I felt a little more safe on the desktop because it is a very comfy computer, runs really fast and has a big monitor.

dual booting is not an option, i don't want to risk windows fucking up hard drive with all the music on it. running linux isn't an option, no good music software and jack sucks.

I'm using Windows 7, its the most compatable OS for games even old ones. I play Japanese hentai unnamed games that only runs on windows 7 as well as steam games. The only thing I see worth going for windows 10 is DX12 and thats all. Games will still run on Windows 7 as you can just use DX11 instead of DX12

Many components are simple enough to understand, like Accessibility means Magnifier, narrator etc, so if you use one/some/all of them you check Accessibility. Don't worry if you forgot a component-- you can install it afterwards using this tutorial:

From what I've seen in this thread, Linux is much easier to learn than all the patches and workarounds that you need to get Windows 7 working properly.

If you really care about game compatibility, get a separate PC for that with W10 and just treat it like a game console that you only use for games, and then you'll have no reason to keep Windows on your main PC.

Can you guys just get it together? Who is the real enemy here? Microsoft, Apple, that Linux guy? If I see something says "Microsoft is a botnet, run away" and then I get "Apple is not good but for girls and hipsters" and then I get "Linux is not really serious unless you've got a team of people dedicated to that system."

Won't be long until Microsoft either releases updates that sabotage the performance of Windows 7 or use the backdoor to sabotage it for users who turned updates off. They have to force users to update to 10 one way or another. The longevity of Windows 7 is matching that of XP and Microsoft is losing a shit ton of money because of it.

Vista flopped hard and Windows 7 saved the day. 8.x flopped hard too but Windows 10 isn't saving the day. Microsoft really wanted people to switch. They tried making it free as in gratis in the beginning. That didn't work. They brought back the start menu after their touch-oriented gimmick failed to impress. It didn't work. They tried luring in the Apple fans by oversimplifying things and calling everything under the sun an app. It didn't work. They included Windows 10 Mobile users in their statistics for users who upgraded to Windows 10. It fooled exactly nobody.

As of today, the majority of Windows machines in the developed world still don't run Windows 10. And if it weren't for the shady deals with hardware manufacturers and the prevalence of games that require DirectX, Microsoft would have been finished by now.

Well you have to verify after each dependency check, and adjust (other components as well, especially components that need IE) until undesired objects are removed to your liking. Note that compatibility may be impacted if you remove a crucial component that "depends" on IE.
If you are not keen to reinstall, then run the following as admin:
