So, I'm looking for a good pair of over-the-ear headphones for $100 or less. I've narrowed it down to two. The Audio-Technica ATH-M40x and the Sennheiser HD 4.30. Which should I get? Are there any others you'd reccommend?

Philips SHP9500

Where the fuck is the headphone general
>>
>>58624804
What about closed-back ones?

This man has it.

Best budget headphones coming through.

Neither get a NVX XPT100 or HyperX Cloud.

Then again the HD 4.30 look comfortable, though I don't know much about them. Wouldn't recommend the M series ATH's as they aren't comfortable.

If you don't plan on taking them outside or don't mind looking like a moron the K550 mkii or K553 pro offer the best sound you'll get out of closed backs for under 200 or even 300.
They're fucking massive and bulky though.

Grab the M40Xs

do lobes of your ears touch the speaker housing when you have them on? I want something that has maybe bigger pads...
>>
I got some Sony MDR 55 for 70 bucks, they're pretty good

Superlux HD668b

It is a bit shallow, and it does touch your ear, but the material used inside is a lot comfier than most other headphones out there.

If you want something deeper, then i'd suggest a pair of HD558s. For closed, i'd recommend a pair of M40Xs.

thanks anon

I have the AT-M40x's.
10/10 can confirm that the cans are legit.
My only gripe is the length of the cable provided, it's fucking 2 meters.
>>
>>58624429
So these are awesome but do any double as headsets for pc gaming?
>>
>>58624429
Those new Sennheiser look decent

>>58624863
They never know about this shit and just say m40x every time for under $100. They could at least consider alternative choices
>>
>>58629045
$30 desk mic

And yes the one in OP pic includes in line mic
>>
>>58629300
I meant more of a headset, as opposed to a desk mic and then a pair of headphones. I work on music so my space is already pretty taken up with equipment. Thanks for the idea though!
>>
>>58629045
The M40x can be easily modded to remove the mechanism which locks the detachable cable in place, which frees up enough space to plug in a 2.5mm-to3.5mm adapter, thereby enabling the use of the V-Moda BoomPro microphone.

Or you could spend a little more on a Modmic
>>
the m40x is fucking uncomfortable as fuck, literally anything is better
>>
>>58624429
I had the sennheiser 4.30 and traded them in for ath-m40x, way better sound and the comfort is much better, i had shitty philips dj headphones before which hurt my ears, the ath m40x is really soft to your ears
>>
>>58630000
zalman clip on mic, it clips to the headphones cable, don't buy a headset

NVX XPT100 are amazing for their price. Most comfortable headphones I've ever worn(The pads are actually softer than HM5 pads), detachable cable, impressive soundstage and neutral sound. Only downside is they get easily scratched and are ugly cans.
>>
Get the m40's but with replacement pads, the stock ones just aren't comfortable but the sound quality is amazing for the price.
