I just noticed this change on Google images
Thoughts?

Shit, as much as material design is shit.

Material design isnt shit

It is.

Most people are right handed, and increasingly large phones are common.
Knowing both of these things, why would you put the primary button for a large portion of the app's functionality in the upper left corner where they're forced to alter their grip or move their hand to reach it?
I'm left-handed, and as nice as it is for me, it's retarded for the vast majority of people.

not to mention in chrome, they made everything worse then it was before due to material
Looks like shit, not because of the material design but because the colors don't fit in with the the color scheme.

What's different?

Those buttons have been there for at least a year.

That's another problem, everybody's obsession with creating unified interfaces, when ultimately any phone friendly interface wastes space like a motherfucker on a desktop.

>when ultimately any phone friendly interface wastes space like a motherfucker on a desktop.
This isn't true whatsoever. Bad design wastes space. Good design can ultimately grow (or shrink) with screen size and still function phenomenally.
The real problem is with mobile devices. They're designing base interfaces so as not to step over their competitors patents or piss off loyalists. Apple got it right the first time, keep majority of app navigation at the bottom. Google got it right by keeping the back button at the bottom of the phone (either with hard/soft keys). However, they both get shit wrong by putting the back button at the top left, and a bunch of other silly design choices.
Desktop design has fucking stagnated and it's depressing. People have just given up trying. Opera Neon is so fascinating to me because at least it's trying some new fresh ideas.
