A black wire running from the top board all the way down the side of the battery to the lower board.

I've seen it in many more phones as well.

Seems to have one or two wires inside almost like a mini coaxial cable.

What is it?

It is, actually, coaxial cable with an U.Fl connector at the end. It usually connects your antenna to the mainboard.

It's the same type of connector that usually connects your wireless card in your laptop to the rest of the system. In a desktop it's the jumper (U.Fl to RP-SMA).
