Literally me right in this fucking moment, I want to root my phone so bad but I get scared everytime I see the (30 or more) instructions on the xda forum because I don't have the money to buy another one if I fuck it up in the middle of the process.
And it doesn't help seeing all these "I got error on x part, boot loop etc" being responded with "what version of twrp you installed? Do you installed the right drivers for the adb process?".
God why can't things be more simple like when you installed .nth themes on your nokia feature phone?

Why do people defend LG or even promote interest in their devices in these threads?

The only phone even worth buying of theirs is the V20 and who knows if that will become susceptible to bootloops in a few months or not.

Reposting because new thread:

i have a bunch of phones lying around, is there anything cool i can do with them? I'm not great with smartphone software.

>2 motorola droids (the first one)
>1 droid bionic
>1 galaxy S5 with a broken screen
>1 xperia Z3V that crashes after a few minutes

I feel like throwing them away would be a waste.
>>
>>58594308
It is the most perfect smartphone right now in existence.
>>
>>58594601
Just sell them on Craigslist / eBay. You might not get a lot of money but at least they go to good use.
>>
>>58594601
you can use an old one to take pics of your current EDC :^)

Tbh all your phones are too shit to use for anything really, I wouldn't really feel bad about throwing away (actually just sell them on craigslist or something desu). Unfortunately the s5s screen is too expensive to replace.
>>
>>58594601
I'm interested in buying the S5. How much would you be willing to sell it for?
>>
>>58594768
the thing about the S5 is that the screen broke but it still is fully functional, but I still have a lot of pictures in it that I hadn't backed up to SD card yet and I had a screen lock so I can't get any of them out with repair tools. It's just kinda been in limbo ever since because I would like to get those pictures back but don't know how to repair it.

Once I get my data off, I'd probably let it go for under whatever the normal asking rate is.

I flashed an international firmware on my Nokia phone 10 years ago to remove the TMO branding shit. I didn't know what the fuck I was doing (probably more underage than you) and it was 10x easier to brick it and 20x harder. I still fucking did it though.

So i live in mexico and walmart is going crazy with their discounts (i snatched a 40" FHD samsung tv for slightly less than half its normal price, and it was already crazy cheap so go figure) because of the whole gas fiasco and riots we had here a few weeks ago, and i just saw they also have several "good" phones on sale, which are as follows:

Xperia Z5, 185 dollars (3999 MXN).

Nexus 5X 32GB, 194 dollars (4185 MXN).

Moto G2, 58 dollars (1271 MXN).

Moto X Force, 277 dollars (5999 MXN).

And a samsung gear VR for 45 dollars (999 MXN).

Are any of these phones a good deal? I'm mainly interested in the Moto G2 for a super cheap decent phone i can give to my dad when his birthday comes (he has some POS lumia phone, its either this or a samsung tablet) and in the Nexus 5X because this phone has a fuckton of third party support for some reason (official and unnoficial builds of just about every rom out there, multirom, copperhead OS) and there is a way to run daydream in it with root and some editing, and i really want miku to virtually suck my penis no matter how laggy and pixelated it looks.

I really can't fathom why anyone would spend more than 6000 MXN on a phone and all these go for less than that, my current phone, a G4 Play, is good and all but these offers are absurd, last i checked the 5X was 9000 MXN carrier locked and it was only in white and the 16 GB version.

Switching to T-Mobile but can only afford to finance a phone right now due to other expenses. Tired of Android, after nearly a decade of using it exclusively and the W10 Idol 4S and iPhone SE are what's in my price range for non-Android.

Ignoring the W10 app gap, since all of the apps I commonly use are available on W10, which is the better choice? I've played with my fiancée's iPhone 6, and afaik the SE is just the 6 in the 5's clothes... But is there any major feature of iOS or W10 that really sets them apart and makes one or the other a clear winner?

I'd go for Nova Plus, the 625 can be seen as similar in CPU performance to the Kirin 650, also has a better GPU, the 625 is more power efficent then the Kirin for better battery, also has a bigger battery in general.

Nova has a type c connector if you care, no idea about the cameras on each though.

Thats just from looking at the specs

Case actually detracts from the phone. In portrait, it is difficult to use sliders which come near the screen edge because of the raised edge. You couldn't reach 0:00, for instance. In portrait, the same raised edge on the screen makes it might impossible to bring down the Sys Menu and Notification tray.
I pray that my carrier honors their device protection plan, god help me.

Okay I need a new phone, and not a Motorola, fuck this shit

>>
>>58605095
I got one a month ago and I have nothing bad to say about it.

After a workday I have around 70-80% of battery left.
Screen is good, performance is great.

I don't have heating problems but then again I the only game I had on there was some simple puzzle game.

I do have a case around it and it doesn't feel fragile to me. Feels like my old Xperia SP and I used that one for couple years, including a year I did construction work.

Quickcharge support is missing I think, but I normally charge it overnight from my PC.

As for software, I'm using the official Indian ROM, cause the Chinese one seemed too much of a hassle.

It gets OTA updates and Google services were working from the start.

The only bad side for me could potentially be the lack of B20, cause a lot of carriers here in Europe use it for LTE, but I still seems to have LTE everywhere where others get it.

You have to download the google apps separately and flash those as well, go to open gapps and download the ones according the your rom and device (ie ARM 6.0, x86 7.1, ARM64 5.1) iirc the galaxy SIII is ARM, doublecheck anyways because flashing the wrong gapps can lead to a softbrick.

Another quick question:

how do I load up a custom rom on a phone that doesnt have a SD card? Do you plug in a thumb drive, or do you place the zip on the internal storage after wiping?
>>
>>58607738
Should have just bought a Xiaomi, software support for that thing is going to be outdated from the box and never updated
>>
>>58608006
>>58608065
Yeah but since you already booted for the first time i'd suggest doing a full wipe and reinstall everything (go to wipe, advanced, tick internal storage, cache, system and dalvik cache) don't wipe internal storage if you have the rom and gapps there, don't ever wipe external storage/SD, if you're on TWRP you can choose multiple ZIPs to flash together and then reboot.
>>
>>58608130
Multiple ways, either via adb (kind of confusing), OTG or just put the rom and gapps in the phone's internal storage and don't wipe it when TWRP asks you to, tick off that box and wipe everything else (cache, dalvik cache, system).

This is why i don't buy phones without an sd slot no matter how good they are, it's far more convenient to have all your data on one and never worry about random bootloops.
>>
>>58607674
Their download page is down, so it redirects to another site that just has every rom listed, but I cant find the one I need for the SIII
I have the tmobile version which is T999, but they only have the international version I9300

Can I try that without bricking it?
>>
>>58608253
Of course not, you'll get a softbrick and i doubt you'll be able to reflash the stock rom via odin and adb then unlock bootloader and root all over again if you can't install a simple rom.
>>
>>58608251
well I was thinking of playing with my Nexus, but since it has a very stock android, I dont really need a rom. unless I wanna give 7.1 a try, which I dont really care for.

I once managed to do exactly that. Was installing a new custom ROM and wiped everything, including the internal storage where the rom and gapps zips were. So I had a phone with no OS to boot into and nothing to install on it either. Was pretty easy to fix though, IIRC I just used the adb "push" command to move the files back on the phone.

The S5 was my first smartphone and it's still in good condition to this day, the HTC10 because of 2016 flagship specs, perfect size and best audio out of any smartphone (and probably the last good phone HTC made), the RN3P because i got memed into buying one alongside a 128GB shark for an anime/manga phablet and the G4 Play because i always wanted a moto phone and it seemed like the most solid of the G4 family (no overheating, 5", solid battery and display, removable battery).
>>
>>58608801
I'm about to fall for the RNP3 meme.
What are your thoughts on it?
>>
I kind of miss feature phones
>>
>>58608896
It's great for what i use it (big phone with big battery and capacitive buttons so on-screen ones don't take up a tenth of the screen to read manga and watch anime on at work, with surprisingly good specs and made of metal despite costing a mere 160 dollars), the sound via speakers is meh though, not that i'd blast my autism at max volume on it without earbuds but just a warning in case you do, just make sure you get the 3/32 "prime" version and flash an AOSP rom on it because mine came with a web browser and messaging app that needed access to a lot of things and my email in order to use them.

Get it in black if you can, the screen has black borders around it and this way you don't notice them, check the bands because i can't get 4G on mine without going with a shit carrier but it's ok becase i don't even have a sim card inserted in it, i treat it more like an old mp4 player i had than a phone.

DF, but they should apply to the entire country, i've found the Nexus 5X and Xperia Z5 in several walmarts and they still have quite a few of them for sale, the G2 is already out of stock unfortunately, i should have bought one when i had the chance.

And by the way i found out that the Snapdragon 810 chipset was aparently faulty (it overheated like nothing else) so the Xperia Z5 is a bad purchase despite the price, while the 5X has bootlooping issues and the lack of SD slot killed the phone for me anyway.

Overpriced and shitty, just like an iphone.

Specs are only a marginal improvement over a flagship of the same year half its price yet it comes with more downsides than said phones, mainly lack of SD slot, jewgle bloat up the ass, merely "okay" audio and a few hardware issues, unnaceptable for a phone that starts at 800 dollars for the 32GB version and advertised as a "just works" device, namely the permanent lens flare of the back camera and the speakers crackling if playing something at max volume, both which have been officially acknowledged by google by the way, look it up.

I'm not at all willing to go over $400 and as much under that would be appreciated

(because people think a 5" phone is the same thing"

I'm coming from a trusty note 2, but the screen is getting faded on it and it's coming to that age that I'm just wanting to upgrade and I want to go down the smaller phone route.
For what I do, something like the nexus 4, spec wise, would be perfect, but the camera is just so bad on it, that I'm steering clear of that.

It never was, avoid Snapdragon810 devices like the plague, if you want a sony phone wait for their newest flagship or buy the ZX.

>>58614213
Z5C, (faulty) flagship specs in a tiny body with the perfect resolution and battery for that size is always great, the XC is $120 chinkphone tier with a fragile body, sony shoved a meh SD650 an added an extra GB of ram in it to compensate instead of an SD820 like it should have.

I broke my 6P.
I don't like the Pixel XL because it's ugly and not any better than my 6P was for the most part.
LG V20 doesn't seem like a good buy, Samsung has always been cheap plastic chink shit unless they did something new recently.

Should I get a OnePlus 3T or is there something else comparable to the Pixel XL out right now?

Ausfag with a oneplus one looking to upgrade. Budget is 500 under. After a phone that has good performance and amazing battery life. List me a few options currently thinking Xiaomi redmi 4 prime might be an OK choice.

Android with decent battery life is what I really just ask for. Under $1,000 AUD ($750 USD?) as well pls.

I have literally never heard of any of those. Don't know why people would use these random roms on a daily basis. I can understand using them for like your tablet which you aren't doing anything but watching porn on anyways.

I just can't use a custom ROM when the creator can barely speak english and actually effectively communicate with users.

look for one in the automate community/forum thing, i'm sure someone has already created one
or if there isn't one and you don't want to create one, look for a premade tasker one
>>
>>58619435
>and you don't want to create one,
It's not that I don't want to, it's that I don't know how. I tried last night(first time using automate) but it got to the point where you had to put in variable db lvls. I'm not a sound engineer I don't know what db lvls tapping on a screen would be, much less how to make it listen for 3 taps.

I don't know wtf I was doing.
>>
>>58619542
Ok so what is your actual goal in a simple statement. Like what is it you're trying to accomplish? Turn the screen on when you tap on it 3 times and then mute the mic?

So the jailbreak on my 6s died and I've decided that it's given me enough grief.

T-Mobile Croatia (800/1800MHz I think but I usually just turn off 4G)
>Budget
Up to $1000
>Wants and needs
- Under 70mm wide so not over 5.1-2"
- 3.5mm jack on the bottom
- USB-C and waterproofing would be very nice
- Good camera with manual controls, RAW would also be nice
- Quality DAC with loud 3.5mm output
- Good speakers are a plus
- Flagship performance isn't needed, an SD625 would be enough
- Over 70h gsmarena endurance
- Well built

I like the Mi5S but the lack of 4G bands would surely annoy me even if I wouldn't use them.

Pic unrelated, look at the post

So I heard from a friend that a new Motorola is coming out next month that uses usb-c, has 1440p, and has some new hardware feature that supports 256gb micro sd cards. At least 32GB internal storage
3.5mm jack preferably on the top
Waterproofing would be nice. My hands get really sweaty.

Good DAC since I mostly use it to listen to music

Durable
4GB RAM preferably

I was thinking of getting a Galaxy S7 but I probably shouldn't because of Samsung's reputation.

I'm new to Android in general, though I'm not so tech-illiterate that I don't want to root my new phone. Where the hell do I find legitimate instructions for rooting? XDE? Botnet searches lead me to things like srsroot and kingo but they seem shady like using their "one click root" options would not only not work but install malware.

I've tried searching for my phone make & model (LGE LGL52VL; android 5.1.1 LMY47V) but, as is the nature of search engines, I get really outdated information.

I don't want any spoonfeeding or handholding but if I could simply get pointed in the right direction I believe I could figure things out from there.
