Got a chance to buy either Xiaomeme Mi Max or RN3P for the same price. They are nearly same hardware-wise and I'm inclined for the bigger display, howerer damn, 6,44 is so large. All reviewers say it is only a matter of time to get used to it, but shit. Is Mi Max good, no secret shittery?

I had an Asha 500 exclusively for whatsapp, my parents refuse to use regular sms or even LINE and my phones are always fully degoogled, and even if they weren't i would give the zuck my phone number.

Whatsapp dropped support for it like a year ago and i had to throw it into the trash but it was pretty decent, battery lasted forever.

I'm posting this again, because I didn't get any helpful answers in last thread.

I'm tempted to buy this Moto Z play on ebay, it's $345.
Do you think it's worth it for the price?
Has any one here ever used a Moto z?

>>
>>58576746
They're both great phones and pretty much identical in terms of specs. It comes down to whether you prefer 5.5" or 6.44". Neither is going to be comfortable to use onehanded.
>>
>>58576796
Hell yeah it is, great battery, 5.5" 1080p AMOLED, actually visible if you're outside, 3/32 SD625 ($150 chinkphone tier, but lenovorola comes with great software and build quality) and type c, it already got nougat in a lot of places so you don't have to bother with a custom rom.

Normal price is $350 on almost all stores so unless it's more expensive in your country and you're absolutely sure it isn't a used/refurbished one go for it.
>>
>>58576572
What would be better, to buy newer phone like Samsung C7 and A7 (both 2016), Z3 and Z3+?

Priorities are snappy performance, screen and battery life in that order. Also id like phone that will not overheat (which could remove z3 from list?) I hoped id get all this in g3 3gb that i had before. I didn't. Screen is really really sharp, but bland at the same time, its reasonably fast, but skin and animations seem too heavy when compared with qhd display and s801. Biggest problem however was heat. I cant stand having phone that is hot all the time.

Fast and feels snappy.
Build quality feels good, but it's a bit heavy so it could be shit.
The UI looks a bit gay.
Finger print sensor is faster than on my Nexus 5X.
The led/flashlight got a bit of a yellow colur.

No backlit keys, but only retards need that.

>>
>>58578235
Ok. One more.

It's a bit easier to use with one hand than the Nexus 5X. It's a bit fatter but feels a bit smaller. The Nexus stock Android experience is better though IMO. I havent tried the camera and that shit yet, and i hardly use it.

I've used my current phone for 3 years without a case, first time ever. It's destroyed, but it's a samsung so their chrome plated plastic edges have been what's keeping it together, dents and all.

I just bought a OP3T today and I'm really liking the minimal rosewood shell they offer. I imagine they're super flimsy and will really just protect against everyday wear and tear, no drops, but I still think it looks nice.

Ill have to ask again... Are z3 and z3 plus still good options? Plus is only 20 bucks more, probably because of overheating issues (should i stay away or are these claim over exaggerated?)

For similar price I can get new 2016 model of Samsung J7. Which would be better choice if priorities are battery life and snappiness?

I have experience with G3 (SD801, 3gb ram) and S4 (SD800, 2gb ram) First one has weak battery, sharp but somewhat washed out display, some problems with overheating (nothing ever crashed but phone gets to warm to be comfortable for me to hold it) and finally, underperforming speed which was probably caused by heavy skin, qhd and 801 which wasnt ready for it

S4 was really great at first, but it started to slow down massively and now its slow as snail. But i guess factory reset could bring it back to original state.

Id really appreciate if someone could compare C7 and Z3/Z3 plus to these phones, especially g3. And also, if there is better alternative that could be similarly priced please post it. Im open to any suggestion but anything chinese apart from Huawei is not an option for me.
>>
Anyone have the NEC terrain?
>>
My Sony Z2 seems to have finally shit the bed, now what do I get? I'm not really sold on any of the options, honestly, but I guess I need to pick one. I want something """flagship premium""" that isn't a cheap plastic piece of shit and I want it to last me a while, but I don't have many specific requirements other than that. I don't care about camera quality or any extra resolution beyond HD or any voice assistants and fingerprint things and other dumb gimmicks. I hate Samsung, their products are trash. I don't want chinkshit. Whatever I buy will be unlocked so I'm paying full price, I'd of course rather save money but I guess price isn't such a huge factor. Unfortunately I can't really wait for any upcoming releases or anything since my phone is dead.

I think I have it down to:

Sony XZ
>Seems to be around $550-$600 on Amazon
>Closest successor to the phone I already have, roughly the same size and features and everything else
>The nicest looking of the ones I'm considering, just a slab of metal and glass with a bit of plastic just like my Z2
>Same stupid annoying flaps covering the connectors as the Z2

Sony X Compact
>Cheapest option, $350
>I like the idea of a slightly smaller phone, I think I like this phone's form factor the most of all the options
>It's fucking plastic, why couldn't they continue making the compact models the same build quality as the old Z compacts?
>Zero water/dust resistance which is sort of a big step down from the Z2

Google Pixel
>$650
>No SD slot and only 32GB, fuck if I'm paying those jews extra for 128GB if they won't even offer an SD slot
>Holy shit is it goddamn ugly, how did they rip off the iphone so much but make it look so bad?
>Less bloat, latest software with updates without waiting for Sony to get their shit together, stupid voice assistant which I'm never ever going to use but which I will probably accidentally activate a lot

newer cheap/midrange phones will have more faster or at least more power efficient cpus, and the meme feature that is a fingerprint reader which is really comfy. Cameras, rom support and build quality are going to be better on flagships tho. SD810 isn't that old, so if you can get a phone with that for cheap it's still pretty decent if you don't play shitty games that trigger the housefire meme.

I just looked at the actual reviews of the z3 plus and the battery is pretty fucking shitty. Anything before the SD810 has pretty meh performance (sd800 gives half the antutu score of the sd650 in cheap ass chinkphones). This doesn't mean the phones are unusable but these older chipsets are also worse for 4g speeds and don't have hyper fast shutter speeds etc.
Definitely look into new phones with SD650/652/625. I'm personally pretty intrigued by the Lenovo P2. Seems like it'll feel premium enough and it has a fucking huge battery.

Okay /spg/, recommend me a phone.

I'm a linux user, I like command lines and fiddly shit, and I like phones that aren't xbox hueg. Also I use a desktop and tablet I use for most entertainment, so I don't care about phone games.

First, my phone history:
HTC One S //- First and best smartphone I've ever owned. Bought in 2013, installed Cyanogenmod on it in 2015 and quite enjoyed it until I soaked it in beer. Would consider going back to this but lack of NFC and certain other hardware features is a deal-breaker.
HTC One M8 //- Quite happy with this, but not quite the same as the HTC One S. Liked the additional power, updated features, and the hardware design, but it was a little too bulky for my tastes. I shattered the front glass on it, and decided to try and replace the glass; turns out that was a bad idea as I accidentally pried apart the digitizer and broke that too.
Samsung S5 //- Definitely a step backwards from the HTC One M8, shoddy camera, underpowered speakers, and Samsung bloatware. Fuck you Touchwiz. But it did the job until I could afford something better.
Blackberry DTEK50 //- As a loyal Canadian, thought I would give this a try and was pleasantly surprised. It ran an almost-vanilla version of Android. By default it had a lot of good security settings enabled which I greatly appreciated. Camera was miles better than the S5. Good size and weight.

Now I've parted with the DTEK 50, and I'm back to the S5 temporarily (strongly considering putting cyanogenmod on it), but I'm considering buying either another Blackberry DTEK 50 or an HTC 10. I'd consider waiting for the rumored HTC 10 mini, but the lack of headphone jack is a deal-breaker for me. I've never been too impressed by the looks of either the Motorola or the LG series, but I could probably be converted. Also, I'm allergic to Apple.

I'm at a crossroads, and I need your guidance. Where should I go next? Pic related, it's how I want to feel.

anyone here bought B+ / refurbished stock phones from ebay before?

anyways, /blog, my only requirements are

I have my eyes on a Galaxy S7, B stock for around 350.

or I could do another Z3V for 150, but I dont know if I feel safe doing that. It was a fantastic phone while it lasted though.

I fucking HATE having to deal with setting up Android devices. Once they're setup, they're great, no complaints! But get a new device and want to get it rooted, or have a rooted one and want to get updates? Jesus christ, the hell that is trying to navigate the XDA forums and figure out what the fuck everyone is talking about so that you can get it all setup correctly? It's one of those cases where the guides are all there and are all great for people who do this as a hobby, and are all up on the terminology and do this shit regularly, but I just get a new device every couple years, want to root it, and want to update it every few months. I have no fucking idea what's going on or how to do it, and just leave XDA frustrated every time. It's one of those things where you need to know everything already before you can know where to start and what to look for.

I have an HTC 10. I had previously followed a guide on how to unlock my device with HTCDev, install TWRP, and get SuperSU on there for root. Tonight I used HTC Sync Manager to update it to the latest version, 2.28.617.8, the Nougat update. I'm not retarded, I'm just real frustrated at trying to figure out which guide I should be following. Anyone interested in walking me through how to root this thing again, and then either be able to get OTAs in the future without losing root, or how to easily restore root and all my customizations after updating? I'll pay for some help on this. PayPal, or Steam if you're an underageb& or something.

an s7 can be found for $300-$350 in mint/like new condition, and if you load the g930-U firmware on it, it will have every single LTE band unlocked that US carriers use

the LG v20 is already down to $350... which is semi funny because it came out in october and is $100 more MSRP than an s7 that came out in march.. but it's already as cheap as the s7.

>f/2.0
Is the fstop number. It refers to the aperture of the lens.
Simply put, a lower number (2 is quite low) means the aperture is almost wide open, which lets in a lot of light.
This means you can take pictures in less light without bumping up the iso to high heaven. (Higher iso creates more noisy/grainy photos as it essentially boosts the light sensitivity of the digital light sensor.)
So you want low fstop and low iso for great image quality.
However, a low fstop also leaves you with a very shallow field of focus, meaning you can miss focus very easily. But it's also what gives that commonly loved "subject is in focus while the background is blurry" look.
Low fstop is great for portraits and closeups but not so great for clear, sharp landscapes.

That's the gist of it.

get the mi5 64gb. it's clocked the same as the 821. has much better rom/dev support. it will get nougat when miui 9 comes out. has ir blaster and ois, although the mi5s has better camera sensors.

mi5s has a lot less buyers so I don't think xiaomi will be all that committed to supporting it. xiaomi randomly chooses which device to support so it's best you pick one they are committed to supporting rather than a new one that they might abandon.
>>
>>58585218
Why not the pro version with 128gb memory?
>>
>>58585233
opps only realise you meant the mi5s plus. the plus has completely different camera sensors to the mi5s. that is to say not as good.

I guess the mi5/s is too small for your needs. any way the mi6 is just over the horizon with the sd835. I think sd821 is just a stop gap, doesn't get much attention so xiaomi is likely to abandon support or never bother with updates after nougat.

What does /spg/ think of buying used phones?
>>
>>58587539
Everything works "pretty well". That doesn't excuse EMUI from being hideous.
No one needs custom roms, but why would anyone want EMUI over stock if the choice is given? LMAO
>>
>>58587709
Do your homework before buying one. Make sure it isn't stolen, blacklisted, or something like icloud locked.
People tend to put up some mint condition used phones because some new thing is coming out/has come out, which is pretty great to get last years flagships at such a discount.

That being said, many have caught on to this market and are now doing stupid things like asking for iphone-tier pricing for their used devices. It's hysterical.
>>
>>58587730
I want to get an Xperia but don't want to shell out too much cash, plus the place I'm using has you directly meet the seller anyway.
>>
I just broke my RN3P, so I got a relative's iPhone 5.

I have to say, despite the lag it is astonishingly good. The phone's footprint is absolutely tiny, and iOS 10 just feels way better than iOS 8 which is when I've last used it.

I think I might buy an iPhone SE if the previous one gets discounted or if a new one is released with a headphone jack. The two things I truly hate are the bezel and the battery life, which is obviously shit on this old iPhone 5 but will never be the 2-3 day battery life I'm used to.

most phones these days don't go past 5.7-5.9"

if you're talking about a 4k display on a phone that's pretty dumb imo and probably has limited app support (apps run at 1080p at default i think)

Literally me.

Tried to do this with my Note 3, and originally had it all set up on custom 4.4.2. Two years later, I finally had an app that NEEDED me to be on 5.0, so back to the nightmare I go. People are genuinely ok with putting a custom ROM on their phone with known errors like, "calls not working", "GPS not working", "Camera not working" and they happily keep the thread updated helping people along. What?

Eventually decide I'm not standing for my phone not being able to make calls, and decide to just flash stock marshmallow 5.0 onto it.

It half works, and I can't get into CWM, OR, TWRP, no matter how many times I try to re-flash, factory reset, re-root, whatever.

New problems consist of:

- ANY video playback gets choppy and and ultimately freezes the phone after 1min.
- Cannot remember WiFi passwords if it is ever turned off.
- Last night it died while plugged in, missed alarm.
- If i'm browsing the explore tab on instagram, I can only go in and back to feed about 5 times before it takes 15 seconds to "go back" one page.
- Also, the killer, my capacitive back button is just completely unresponsive now. If I click into a photo on facebook, I have to kill the app and re-open it to get out of that "more videos" feed that always comes up.

Guess I should have gone with a ROM that breaks my camera instead of all this shit.

This has been such an awful experience that I've just bought a new phone. I fucking hate dealing with all that XDA shit.
>>
>>58589060
Now you know to buy devices that are actually great from the start and easy to do shit like root and flash a custom rom when the time comes (if it does).

This is why nexus devices and OP devices are so highly regarded. But of course, no one listens to advice and still go out and buys the latest samsung.
>>
>>58589091
Custom roms are nerd shit. I dont like putting any custom OS on my phone, especially since I need it for banking and doing other important shit with it.
>>
>>58589091

I didn't even know any of this was possible 4 years ago when I was buying. It wasn't until I got sick of TouchWiz that I had my eyes opened to this entire other world.

My OP3T is on the way now and I don't expect to be looking back any time soon.
>>

>>
>>58588854
It's basically Internet Explorer: the smartphone
>>
>>58589129
Hope you enjoy it, it's a phenomenal device that should easily last 5 years (excluding any huge accidents).

>>58589128
That's fine, I don't know what that has to do with what I'm stating.
>>
>>58576572
I still have a Galaxy S3. There's nothing wrong with it and it doesn't explode. Is there any phone worth upgrading to?
>>
>>58589275
The Galaxy S5 Neo is a nice phone.
Or the A5 (2016) which I own. Both can't play 1080p 60fps though
>>
Anyone have iphone se? hows camera? battery?
>>
>>58589275
I had the S3. Finally bought a new phone, but I don't care much about the latest and greatest or any of that shit. Plus I needed a device that I could fuck around with. Unfortunately, lost bids on some nexus 6P devices so I just went for the redmeme.

Man, it's still a huge shock to me just how drastic the difference is between the S3 and a $150 chinkphone now. Like I paid $700 for the S3 at launch and now super cheap chinkphones outperforms it. Tech is amazing desu neko chan

So back to your question, it all comes down to personal desire, any upgrade would be quite a drastic one.
>>
>>58589337
Camera is great. Front camera is from the 5s though, which still suffices imo for selfies and whatnot.

Older flagships are always better than new mid range phones, because they were made to be used for a long time.
>>58580111
disagreed
I have a Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) and it can't even play 1080p 60fps, which the phone before, an LG G2 (released in 2013) managed to do.
Internal Storage is 16 GB, which is laughable.
I could easily get a €120 chin phone that does the same. I paid €300 for the A5 (2016)
Samsung budget phones are garbage and their flagships will soon be too
>>
>>58579165
Z3 is still decent, better than current mid-range phones, but it's roughly on par with older flagships like G3 and S4, not a big upgrade. avoid Z3+ and anything with sd 810 because the overheating issue is real. J7 would be a downgrade in performance.

I've read online that Note 4 devices running ports of the Note 7 ROM had been dying thanks to Samsung's recall update of the note 7.

Is that still a problem now? 'cause I want to get the newest ROM I can on this thing. (If it ever even was one.)

Guys I have a cheap budget phone($100) and found a nice proximity app that allows me to turn off the screen when I cover the sensor (since I can't double tap to turn on. I can cover to turn on and off, it sucks battery to use it to turn on though).

Anyways what can I use the light sensor for? What ways do you guys use your light sensor?
>>
>>58590700
Look into tasker and/or automate.
>>
>>58590717
Can I use this taskernkr automate to always have my mic on, and when I tap the screen 3 times it comes on?

That would be a sweet work around for double tap.
>>
>>58591544
Once you get used to the format, you can use it to do just about anything you want to automate.
>>
>>58591700
I am not asking about the flowchart format, I'm asking if a noob like me who doesn't know to code can do such a thing with those 2 apps.
