I had a lot of issues with the Windows Modules Installer background process. It is part of Windows update. Try blocking or disabling Windows update.

Been here in some form or another since '94 (as a toy OS back then, next to OS/2). Linux as a regular OS since February 1998.

It's ridiculously easy these days.

You could go to Macintosh or build your own hackintosh if you're into that sort of thing.

Pick one of the major distros. Stick with it. Try out new distros in a VM on your daily driver.

You can always go back. But it's like finding out about HP calculators - everything else winds up sucking somehow.

If you have 4 cores, a process could technically use 400 percent.

You're not the only one with high disk usage making everything freeze/lock up. Pajeet has no update yet for that, sometimes it cause long boot/startup from shutdown and opening any software being a lot delayed like whole minutes. Piece of shit compare to windows 7/8.1 which everything is faster.

Super common issue and has happened on every win10 install I've worked with. Also fixable in all of about 8 seconds of googling and 10 seconds of adjustments. The only one I couldn't get to stop doing it was an HP laptop and I think it was the OEM install causing the problem as well as HP's ridiculous amount of bloat.

That being said, given that the simple search of "win 10 100% disk" gives about a billion results, you'd think Microsoft would quickly fix it in an update. It's not like it's hard to fix on your own, and it does slow down new installs so it makes ZERO sense for them not to do it. I can't imagine how many laptop returns are for this specific reason, desu.
