Are you transitioning from homOSeX?
Nvidia
It's best but good luck finding good drivers.

no, from Android and ChromeOS.

I've been using nvidia cards on Linux since 2005 and I honestly can say I never really had problems. I've had some issues without a doubt, but they were very miniscule. If anything lately nvidias Linux drivers have been more stable than their windows counterparts. I'm currently using a 1080 with a gysnc display. And yes, gsync is supported and works well.
I have tried using a few amd gpus in the past on secondary computers and both the open source and closed where absolute garbage. I've herd they have gotten better but from what I've seen nvidia is still better performing, mature, and stable.
Intel is horseshit on windows, Mac, and Linux. It will work but performance is awful.

Nvidia makes drivers that work pretty fucking good on Linux but with the Wayland fiasco, I've realized they can be dickheads.

Last gen AMD cards with open source drivers.
Nvidia works but if you're interested in laptops with a dedicated GPU, theirs are very inconvenient to use on Linux because of the proprietary drivers.

AMD cards used to have really shitty proprietary drivers just a few years ago. I've switched to nvidia since, but I hear the open source drivers are pretty good now.
