I'll be the one to not be a faglord shitposter and say, yes, it is probably the best thing that happened to it. Ubuntu is a quality distro that also makes it easy for noobs to finally move over from pleb tier shit. I'm not aware of any other distro at the time that disabled root access by default. That was a major security upgrade for the general population alone.

Then again, I'm still using Winshit 10 because I'm comfortable with Windows, even though I've been a linux admin and run linux servers and VMs all over.

Not really. I prefer Debian but Ubuntu has a few noticeable advantages such as working with EFI on my Mac so that I don't need to use a third party boot manager or fuck with hybrid MBR. I use XFCE though and I would never use Unity. It's trash and violates your privacy.
