That's not the reason for the shitting in public.

Are you ready to join /pol/ against your will? Here it comes:
>India was once ruled by a caste system
>despite hopey changey, habits still persist
>cleaning up waste marked you as lowest caste
>many Indians refuse to own an indoor toilet because they would then have to clean it
>they believe shitting outdoors marks them as higher caste than cleaning their own toilet

Farewell to innocence. Now you understand the "poo in the loo" video, which was a government sponsored ad to promote civilized behavior.

This, it's painfully true.
I was working with a pajeet and he was a dumbfuck, I often told him to go shit on the street like the yellow nigger he was, but they don't get it, he actually was proud and said he would and told me to clean up the shit. They don't understand that it's a bad thing, they actually feel better doing so, no matter what we civilized people say.

It's fuck behind believe, they literally take "go shit on the street" as a compliment.
>>
>>58575898

There's some distro out there called tiny linux or something that can fit on like 3mb or something. I think full GUI is around 50mb total. You need to install drivers manually probably (have fun with that, from your question, I kind of doubt you could do that.)

>>
>>58586007
Well from 4S above there was not much improvement in hardware either, so yeah.
IIRC iOS6 was already about only social shit and bloat. I kept my 3GS on 5, it knew everything.

If Apple would not lag behind the hardware game (this never changed), a 3GS/4 would be still a capable phone. But they always added ram way too late, and way too little.

By the way... when will apple make a new proper iPad? The Air 2 is way old. And the new ones (Pro, etc) are way too expensive..

This. I tutor kids at math while studying and like one in ten has a phone that has no visible damage. Most kids seem to treat their 500€+ phones like shit.
I had a hypothesis about this and asked them whether or not they paid for it themselves (as I had noticed that the 10% that didn't have broken phones also had cheaper phones) and of course they hadn't.
So apparently it's not really the kids who are at fault but the shorty parents who buy them overpriced shit and don't even make it clear to their kids how fucking expensive these 'toys' actually are.

didnt esata get phased out just like firewire?
Also my thought with this is for someone who is doing field tech type work, like if I just happened to be at my grandparents house and they mention their computer is fucked up, I could easily back up their files, reinstall the os, and then transfer the files back to their computer without having to do extra fuckery like go to my house just to back the stuff up or lug around a sata to usb converter.

I have used partitions before just to preserve the files, but some installations dont allow for partition management, like the discs for my old vista computer would actually wipe every partition on the drive without asking, I learned very quickly not to trust your shit on another partition during a reinstall.

welp, I guess I was wrong.

partly.

the new ones have their own proprietary slot.

still don't see how that m.2 to sata adapter would be useful and where would the sata device go in a macbook. also that's a different m.2 connector.

New-new ones don't have a slot, they are soldered onto the board but use NVMe interface, old ones are typical mSATA slot.

Ive thought about getting one but youd need an external power supply for 3.5" drives, which are what I work with mostly.
At that point Id have to have the adapter and a power supply of some sorts and then it just gets to be too much.

There exist only a few laptops that has 12V available for eSATA, most are 5V.

So a USB bridge with a full connector that has 5V does the same job. You still needed a full connector cable with power for eSATA or eSATAp.

A lot of new 3.5" drives actually just use 5V.

Depending on the notch, it dictates what slot is is, PCIe, SATA or both, you can't but a PCIe m.2 SSD into a SATA only m.2 slot.

I know nooone gives a fuck about them, I didnt know they had a 12v option on some of them, I would have been all over them years ago.
Now though, I use a cd drive for reasons, but my new case doesnt have a 5.25 bay, so whenever I do anything I have the side panel off and the diskdrive istting in there on a box.. I liteerally need this thing.

It also doesnt help that there is no standardization for this shit. its called so many different names its nowonder it never took off.

>eSATAp (Delock, Dynex, Lindy, Addonics)
>eSATApd (Used by Delock to distinguish a port that supplies both +5 V and +12 V)

>eSATA/USB (Gigabyte Technology)
Power eSATA/USB (ASRock)

I thought about that but I need very specific drives, not so much anymore.. usb cd drives might actually be an acceptable solution, but so would setting the drive on the box.

the drives arnt super rare and Im sure there are usb drives that could put out good burns, but finding one would be a pain in the ass.
I use to (legally) burn game backups that were customized a bit, the quality of the burn is incredibly finicky.
The last time I had a usb burner I wasted $30 worth of discs just to get one good burn.
My current 5.25 drive will make good burns and I just feel better using it still.

Have you tried setting the burn speed low? All the CD/DVD drives I had from 2003 - 2006 advertised as 50x+ would make a coaster almost 90% of the time until you set the burn speed to less than 20x

Im about done caring, Ill either just leave it the way it is, rig something up, or buy the hong kong eSATAp or a usb burner

GOOD.

i've owned a couple of usb2 > ide/sata adapter for many years now

they've proved very invaluable, the power connector on the power supply i have for them has been modded over the years to split off into either a 1x sata power + 1x molex or a 3x sata power combination

even usb2 is plenty of speed for cd/dvd drive usage, even at high speed (usb2 is plenty fast enough to cover even 16x dvd writing)

usb is something you pretty much always have access to, so being able to attach any ide/sata device to any machine at any time is awesome, anyone who works with computers should have one of these devices

oh, as for looking for one, you can find them anywhere, just keep an eye on these points:
- get one with 2.5" (44 pin) ide, 3.5" (40 pin) ide and sata, most of them do
- usb2 vs. usb3, usb3 doesn't matter for optical drives (maybe bluray it might make a difference? dunno, never used a bluray drive), usb3 will be faster for desktop hdd's
- does it support >2TB hdds. some don't, i own two, and only one of them supports >2TB hdd's
>>
>>58595482
yea Im comming down from the eSATAp autism trip now, probably going to order a usb3 to sata adapter.
Do you know if these things work with commands like open/close disc drive?

>>

if you have a slim ps2, your only options for storage are either;
- usb (where you can use these adapters)
- network shares
- actual memory cards
so you could use a network share, but that requires a network and another machine with a share, and if you have a slim ps2, you probably want to run some games off of a usb hdd anyway, where these can also be used for
>>

I thought the same thing until a win7 installation that usually takes 10 minutes took an hour.

>>
>>58596055
fun fact, swapmagic actually works on those first gen ps3's with ps2 compatibility
never tried it myself since i've never owned a ps3

>>58596065
not sure about your picture, but i somewhat recently heard about the existence of third party network adapters with sata support, pretty interesting stuff
>>
>>58596091
yea I actually just found them on ebay. Its a china import, but its looks legit, has the sata connections and is only $30
http://www.ebay.com/itm/PlayStation-2-PS2-NEW-SATA-HDD-Hard-Disk-Adapter-Expansion-Network-Adapter-/122257409997?hash=item1c771c07cd:g:iXUAAOSwOyJX94bx

The picture I posted was some guy over at psxscene that took apart his ide network adapter, gutted the stuff that wasnt needed, cut the plastic a bit, and crammed an ide > sata converter in there.
He said the speeds were still as fast as the ide drive, but imo there is probably more peace of mind using a newer drive than an obsolete drive that is way past its expected life.
>>
>>58596088
i can only assume the ide drive you had was just wearing out or dirty
IDE is more than fast enough for any cd/dvd use (hell, most cd/dvd drive don't even use IDE's faster modes! typically they only used up to the 33-66MB/s modes, where later controllers did up to 166MB/s (133 is more common, i think))
>>
>>58596091
>swapmagic
forgot to read that post.
Im not sure what those are, Ill read more on it later. I missed getting into the action on ps2, but I did get some of it on 360.
here soon I might actually put a jtag in a couple 360s. I hear you can play games from the network on them
>>
>>58596157
damn, I still have them sitting around so Ill give them a good cleaning and see what they can do.
I dont know much about their history, I picked up some computers from places and my sata disc drive was in use and I didnt feel like waiting so I just pulled the ide drive and got the other computer started.
>>
>>58596179
i never got into the ps3/360 generation

swapmagic is pretty simple, the physical disk is directly bootable, the ps2 can't tell it's not real, so it boot on any unmodified console
it boots to a screen which spins down the disc and waits
from here you swap in your burned game/homebrew disc, and hit a button to boot it

later on when freemcboot came out, i moved over to that (booting the freemcboot install disc with swapmagic, naturally)
>>
>>58596216
there's also the actual disc read speed limits of the drive, for example, an 8x dvd drive won't be as fast as a 16x drive, regardless of its interface

>tfw old enough to have not even considered someone might not have thought of this
>>
>>58596230
god damn I wish we had that on 360,
have you ever heard of hotswap? Ive actually been cut open by discs

swap takes place at 6:50
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0Kl9LmU9Zc

On mine for that particular dashboard, I had to do the swap extremely fast or else it would error out. I usually grab the disc and magnet with my right hand, and as it moves away put the disk in with my left hand and then slid ethe magnet back onto the new disc, whole process was done in just a couple seconds.
>>
>>58596277
I remember it, just forgot about it because its been so long. Ill double check that too next time I get them out.

captcha just gave me a "select all streetsigns" and the image was a Japanese city where every square except one was streetsigns..
>>
>>58596320
I also forgot to add in his video the disc stops spinning, I dont think mine did that, the motor would spin the whole time (iirc).
>>
>>58596320
>have you ever heard of hotswap?
of course, that's how swapmagic itself works as well, not to mention i did hotswapping a LOT on my psx (which was enough by itself to run game backups)

[swapmagic] spins down the drive, but you still need to hotswap (that is, not let the console know you changed discs by using the eject button)

that's what those metal things in the picture above are, pieces for the ps2 slim you install so the console can't tell when you open the disc drive cover (there's a phat tool as well, but it's not in the picture)
>>
>>58596382
>that's what those metal things in the picture above are
lol nice, forgot about those.
I remember holding the button down myself just to see what it was like.

>Are there still comminutes alive that play/mod ps1 and ps2 or has everything died?
probably, but i've never been much a community person, so i wouldn't say i was ever "in" one in the first place

i did find out recently that sksapps.com died, which is pretty sad, that's where i used to get all the important ps2 homebrew
>>
>>58596453
I had some homebrew for the psp and the wii, they had some neat stuff.
What was available for the ps2?

On the psp they had alternative dashboards, music players, and one even let you use the ir led at the top to emit and record lirc codes, had a large library for them too. Had some fun with the walmart tv wall.
psp cfw also let you play games directly off of the memory card with no problems.
The wii homebrew had an app with homebrew downloads that was rather lacking. Mostly stuff like make the disk trey lighs go on and off automatically, game of life, and make the player select leds on the controller scroll like knight rider.
They did have a web server for the wii though, but it would crash out if you refreshed the page about 10 times really fast.
>>
>>58596320
>Ive actually been cut open by discs
i guess 360's read discs pretty fast compared to the consoles i used

the ps1 only did cd 1x/2x, which spun pretty slow
the ps2 only read dvd's at 4x, which was also not very quick, it did read cd's at 24x, which was getting towards dangerous speeds, but hardly any ps2 games were on cd's, and you could just make a copy of those on a dvd disc anyway
>>
>>58596503
i got into psp stuff pretty early, my first psp came with firmware 1.52, which i swiftly downgraded to the coveted 1.50

ps2 didn't have nearly as rich a homebrew scene as the psp got, but there were things like;
- a file/program manager (ulaunchelf), which was basically the defacto "dashboard" of the ps2 homebrew scene
- various audio/video media players, such as SimpleMediaSystem (not nearly as advanced as what the xbox had, ever heard of a little thing called XBMC?)
- various emulators, could run things like NES and gameboy games fine, i also tried a SNES emulator, but it struggled a bit, still cool to see final fantasy VI on a ps2

Not trying to shit on your conversation but considering a quad core is less than $200 now, are there any games you want that emulators can't do? Hardest for me was MGS3, it simply will not run on a C2D. But this was in 2010.

Outside of that you get all the emulators benefits like higher internal res, save states etc.

pic if ulaunchelf
looks basic, but it was pretty powerful, you could browse/rename/copy/move/etc any storage device on the ps2 (cd/dvd/usb/network/memory card)
and the first screen could be customized with shortcuts so you could just hit a button to launch a particular program without needing to browse to it

any modded ps2 user should have this
>>
>>58596637
>my mobo was called "the unhackable motherboard"
ah, THAT one
yea, they're all at least "temporarily" moddable now, but mine was early hardware, and i could just install plain 1.50 easily, it could technically also run 1.00, but as you might know, there isn't really any reason to over 1.50, not to mention there doesn't exist an update eboot for 1.00 (though that didn't stop some people)
>>
>>58596637
>Yea Ive heard of xbmc, but the name is a bit of a mess. iirc it started out as a media player for xbox and then some shit happened and now its an operating system of its own or just a dlna server
started off as XBMP (which i have used, many of my friends' has xbox's, and i got one myself a bit later), XBMP was just a simple media player, but XBMC was a full blown dashboard replacement, you could manage files and launch games from the internal hdd from it

Others are welcome to join in.
I havnt played with any of this stuff for many years, the last time I ran an emulator was project64 (which was goat).
What I WANT that emulators cant do is ps2 in vr, but the fags over at sony thought the z axis or something was a meme.
last week I played windwaker in vr but got stuck at the telescope thing.. absolute.. hell..
I spent an hour trying to get it to look at the mailbox but it just wouldnt work.
For anyone that doesnt know what Im talking about, part of the game intro you have to look through your telescope at a mailbox and it will trigger a cut scene. The telescope is actually just a flat black image and when you zoom in it increases the cameras zoom, but because the camera is spawned up in the vr headset, you arnt looking where the game things you are looking.
To make it even worse, the creator of dolphin vr thought it would be a good idea to make it so that when you are in wind waker, and you telescope zoom past 3x, it should be first person.. which doesn't work. So now when I zoom in far enough to see the mailbox, my camera just flails around wildly like in a modern video game sniper breaking animation..
I wound up walking away more pissed off than I have been in a long time with my vision fucked up.

yea 1.50 was the sweetspot, jelly/10
Its going to take a while, but later tonight Ill start remembering all the details about of 1.00 vs 1.50 and all the sweet benefits of not being locked down.

didnt 1.50 let you run straight homebrew without any screwing around with cfw?
>>
>>58596702
oh yea, theres a few custom dashboards now for the 360. I dont recall what one was the most common right now.
Was this one for the 360 or the original xbox?
>>
>>58596748
well, 1.00 was a colossal fuck up, sony just outright failed to enforce executable signing, so 1.00 would just run whatever
1.50 came right after, where they tried to fix it but failed terribly, someone found a way around it

yes, you can run homebrew that was made for this trick directly, no firmware hacks or cfw of whatever ("cfw" wasn't even a thing at the time)
>>
>>58596766
XBMC was for the original xbox, i have not used a 360, i don't believe there's a 360 port of xbmc
>>
>>58596785
ok so 1.00 could run everything, and 1.50 were the ones that were easy to mod and was the cutoff, then everything else you had to use pandoras batterys, magic memory cards, and win the lottery, just to put cfw on there, and THEN if you wanted, you could downgrade to an earlier ofw
>>
>>58596830
the thing about 1.50 was that it;
- could run things directly, like 1.00, with a trick (originally a memory stick swaptrick, but soon after just directly)
- could be easily downgraded to, due to the existence of a upgrade eboot

this was pre-pandoras battery territory as well, that was really cool when i first heard about that
