What's their end game?
>>58569214
to do whatever you tell me, drill sergeant
provide a service and make profit.
>>58569214
have some idiot old world media company buy them for way too much money and ride off into the sunset
>>58569240
This. Possibly also sell user data. Look at Jason Citron's previous ventures, this is exactly what he's done in the past.
datamining
>tfw you're in a group that only stocks hentai images rather than playing games
I can only see discord as an hentai/porn storage
LOL THEIR
THEIR LOGO
THEIR LOGO IS A CONTROLLER
LOL GAMERS XDDDDD
>>58569885
do you have autism?
genuine question here
>>58569890
Maybe XD
>>58569263
>also sell user data
They don't have user data. You don't have to give therm anything to use the service properly. If they can sell that nothing to continue providing service, that's only good.
>>58569214
To get bought by Microsoft.
>>58569973
They already have Xbox Live.
>>58569214
Just like every other popular free software, they'll include ads and some freemium content.
>>58569227
Since their service is free and they have no ads in their software....I do wonder how they make said profit.. Collecting data on users by spying on voice data sent to their servers? Probably, their 'privacy' policy allows for it, and their software wants to be run as administrator on windows, lol!
In short, avoid, and use a FOSS alternative like Mumble, or at least Teamspeak.
>>58569214
To sell everyone boxer briefs with buttcheek eye holes.
>>58570231
Basically use a worse service lmao
>>58569214
emoji subscriptions
>>58570231
>I do wonder how they make said profit..
they get money from investors
later they go public
their shares even though seemingly worthless are now worth money
investors are happy because they have shares
>>58569214
Providing a progressive platform for botnet marshals that can replace IRC
>>58570402
Mumble and Teamspeak actually have better voice quality and codecs
>>58569965
they gather pretty much everything about you
they log chats, monitor your computer, etc. that data makes extremely detailed user profiles which sell like hot dogs.
Social network for gamers. That's pretty much it. It's fucking trash.
every few years a new chat program like this gets released and gets big and then everyone stops using it when a new one comes out that does the same thing with more horse shit added into it
just fucking use irc
>>58570537
Why? IRC is not libre and does not protect its users. There are many exploits on the server side that the maintainers do not address and will not address it until an incident that can backfire on them comes to light. Most hosting services forbid the hosting of IRC servers on their network for this very reason.
>>58570537
Did irc finally add support for voice chat?
>>58570651
>using voice chat
>ever
>>58570472
pretty sure Steam, Bnet, Facebook, Windows, etc. Already all does that shit.
>>58570941
Discord was built from the ground up as botnet, and since it's a voice program that monitors other applications in your computer then they have a lot more info than all of those other than maybe windows.
>>58571286
compared to?
>>58570426
>shares have value because investors
>investors buy because of share value
isn't this how bubbles pop?
>>58570436
Teamspeak doesn't. It's also both paid and closed source so the datamining argument can also be made for them.
>>58571402
And by paid I mean the servers and the mobile app. Since clients are free why wouldn't they data mine them for extra profit?
>>58570231
They have advertising potential.
It's common for startups to try and get a user base to be fond of them and get attached to them. Then they gradually start advertising.
>>58569885
That's what they market to, exclusively.
By telling investor's "lol we'll monetize it through paid emotes" then going bankrupt when their money runs out (or if the investors cop on)
>>58570626
>There are many exploits on the server side
dont use a shitty server? write your own? don't be a retard? fuck off?
>>58569214
Gain a ton of users
Inflate imaginary worth/stock price
Sell to Yahoo right before everyone moves on to another service
Live in the Caribbean
Same thing we do every night, Pinky
Like most shitty startups that manage to get a bunch of Jews to give them millions of shekels, Discord's plan is to build a substantial user base and sell for billions.
>>58573692
ALTABA*
They're waiting to get big and then be bought by Microsoft like Skype did.
>>58574535
Absolutely awful
>>58569214
We already know.

>>58569885
The logo is actually Mickey Mouse's pants.
>>58569865
Downloading images from discord is a pain.
>>58569214
To acquire a large userbase, gain market share, and then sell to some Chinese company for several million USD.
>see OpenFeint
>>58574623
I cannot unsee it now
>>58569885
go out sometime kid, it ain't healthy to stay inside all day
