Are sound cards memes or is it worth getting one?

your life is a fucking meme, kill yourself
External DAC and amp is the way to go.
External DAC with powered speakers is best set up. No need to deal with driver software from internal sound cards which most of the time is garbage.
audio interface is the only right answer
does nvidia process audio? I seen audio driver or something on install
>>58567461
That's audio over HDMI.
>>58567727
should I buy hdmi cable and use nvidia audio or spend $30 on
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy FX PCIe 5.1 Sound Card

Cheapass sound cards won't be any better than onboard. If your headphones are loud enough and you don't have any hiss or interference, then onboard is perfectly fine.
In the case that you do have the said problems, any cheap EXTERNAL DAC will solve that as it's isolated from other components.

my onboard is extremely bad. very dull and can barely hear audio with volume maxed.

Ask /csg/ for the latest hot cheap DAC and amps. It will be better than sound cards.
>>58568320
why is internal sound card a bad option?
>>58568336
It can still get interference because it's with the other components of your PC. External options are isolated.
Most people disregard audio when building a rig or do any kind of entertainment setup. I would say a decent external DAC is the way to go for next level audio.
>>58566343
got mine about two weeks ago, i can confirm its not a meme.
>>58566343
If you use/require a server motherboard without onboard audio and you need basic audio output, it is not a meme.

If you gane and need the full feature drivers, get a sound card. otherwise, stick to a USB DAC.
Asus Xonars are good cards and Objective2 is the best price/performance DAC
