Does anyone here remember these ridicoulous home stereo sets from the 2000s?
im talking about these huge things with a giant volume knob and huge speakers and vents and such. kind of equivalent of boom boxes?
>>58563285
they were trash
You mean boomboxes?
They're still around, still only for niggers
>>58563302
I owned one, can confirm they were pretty terrible.
>>58563309
i mean like this but i cant find any pics. i kind of want one because as a kid i used to love these at the store because of their flashing blue leds and meters but i never had the money.
>>58563371
Try searching for ghetto blaster instead of home stereo.
Mostly empty air inside and pieces of lead glued to the bottom
Parents still have one. Mainly because my father built it into the bedroom walk-in closet.
I think the same three CDs have been in the changer for the last five years.
They weren't all shit, but most of the larger ones were.
I have a small sony cfm-120 that's okay.
>>58563525
op here
this is not really what im looking for. i want the most ridicoulous piece of shit with the most leds and meters crammed in one piece of shit as possible.
>>58563285
I had one of these. Not sure why it was so big, it didn't produce that much sound and the sound quality was awful. At the time it didn't bother me that much though. You could remove the side speakers and use it as a stereo system or you could put batteries (several of the huge, expensive ones would power it for a very short time) in it and use it as a boombox, so it was kind of a two-in-one deal.
Blast from the past OP, I had pic related
I don't even know why the fuck I wanted one as a kid, I only ever owned a couple of CD's and didn't even like music.
>>58563285
only people over 35 years old remember these or possibly still own these since they were and still are the the absolute madness
>>58563551
>>58565030
I still have fantasies about strapping a ghetto blaster on my back for my morning motorcycle commute.
I was even pondering getting one off eBay with some kind of Aux in port then stuffing my old iPod touch inside the cassette deck.
This motherfucker even came with a record player.
>>58563371
You're thinking of a rackmount system.
I'm assuming it's one of those god awful all in one stacks that used the cheapest possible components. It came in its own cabinet with a window right? Don't get one.
If you like the flashy meters just get an old graphic equalizer with a specrtum analyzer. I have a BSR 3000 just because I also enjoy the flashy bars.
Check out techmoan on youtube. Stuff from the 80's and 70's is way cooler.
You can still find them at thrift stores, same destination for every other type of neo-luddite shit on /g/ living in the past
modern equivalent is this thing called a "bluetooth" speaker paired to a smartphone. See, there's this thing that sends music wirelessly over short distances, so you can separate the music source and the speaker so you don't have to carry around a box all day.
want to know what I remember? paying $35 for 15 D batteries to play the boombox. but if we all band together and try really hard, we can mis-remember it not having to need those and the 80s/90s can be this golden lost era of magic powered boomboxes
>>58563285
Component stereos. Those things are silly. However, find the right ones and they would have genuinely nice speakers to cannibalize.
I've got an old aiwa stereo that I use to listen to lo-fi hip hop.
Had one of these in college. The sound quality was shit, but it had that nigbass(TM). I used it as a beater shop stereo up until a couple months ago. Ended up selling it to some shitty kids for $25.
Actual bookshelves with real amplifiers (even cheap ones) sound miles better.
>>58565445
my local thrift stores are just filled with iPod docks and CD changers these days, anything remotely interesting gets put in the online auctions.
I had a huge Sanyo boom box about 10 years ago when I was broke, someone had thrown it out because the cassette belt was broken, I ran my computer audio into it with a cassette adapter and patched over the front of the tape deck with metal from an Arizona iced tea can. Sounded like crap but still better than the Gateway computer speakers I was using before that.

Tell me more pls. also shoot recs
>>58567408
That's weird, I picked up 3 model M keyboards and a technics sl-1200 for 75 bucks at my local thrift store the other day. Maybe you should get better at searching.
TOSHIBA will go bankrupt soon
Used to own a small one that was passed down from my parents.
Thing went so fuckin hard it was unbelievable.
Fuckin hard.
>tfw you look up your stereo system and one of the first hits is radiomuseum
now I know this shit is old, but it still works..
I never owned one of those crap all in one hifi systems.
But I did own a pimp ass boombox in the 80s
>soft eject tape
>detachable speakers
>graphic equalizer

I still have my 5 disc/dual cassette stereo I bought in 2000. I remember running my PS2 audio through it.
There used to be REALLY BIG ones
absolutely enormous that it would not fit on any shelf

tenis exactly, i bought nice pair of Sony speakers for almost nothing, they had to be a part of some setup like that. the plastic player kicked the bucket years ago but speakers itself are still great.
>>58563476
damn, this is ridiculously bad
Does your boombox pan and tilt?

It really depends on where you live. I'm not him, but I live in a collegetown/semi-rural area and what we have show up is weird. usually old crappy audio.
Too cool for school

Had one of these, fuck it was good but half of that is probably nostalgia.
this is not what i fucking ment!
i ment like this
>>58563476
>>58563445
not these 80s things
progress!
>>58573107
nigga I had that same fucker. that shit was good.
>>58573473
What is that? Reminds me of pic related but digital.
>>58572724
How does the vinyl even fit?
2000s was the worst time for aesthetic tech
>>58576813
Nah the likes of Samsung and Sony are hard at work making them as ugly and unusable as possible.
Had one of these magnificent beasts a very long time ago, still miss it to this day and I check eBay for good prices on them from time to time, they still command rather high ones considering their rarity especially in good working condition.
Best sounding "boombox" ever, seriously, it was more accurate to call it a portable component audio system with a handle on it to be honest.
God damn I miss that thing, I really do.
>>58563285
Ghetto blaster?
I have this sitting right above my PC. My grandma bought it in like 2005 and gave it to me when she moved. It has an aux input so it's worth keeping around.
>>58578502
Dammit man, seeing those crumpled tweets drives me spare.
>>58579171
That poor table...
>>58571780
My uncle has one of those. It's fucking huge and the speakers are just as big. Don't think it works anymore though, dunno what could have happened to it though.
>>58579171
How do you like that space heater?
>>58579171
You should probably replace the table and distribute the weight more evenly next time. Do it before it's too late and you wake up finding everything broken on the floor.
