Now having a fabulous motherboard.

The only port I need out of the ordinary is optical audio

>ASROCK
Do their motherboards not suck ass anymore? I know a few people who have had shit tons of ASROCK boards show up DOA or die within 1-2 years.
This was in the core2-2nd gen core i series though so I've been out of the loop on them since other than /g/ generally calling them shit whenever someone has one in a build list or suggests one.
>>58558301
I have a really cheap one for 3 years now and it works just fine
>>58558301
I've been using an Asrock as NAS 24/7 for the last 4 years now without any problems.

Ok poorfag.
My OG 990fx UD3 1.1 looks so underwhelming (because it is) compared to motherboards these days.
I bought it because it was one of only a handfull of AM3+ boards with FX-ready BIOS and was on sale at the time.
It's still doing fine, but I haven't even attempted pushing my 8320 past 4ghz because I've been warned the VRMs will explode. Also couldn't get my 1866 ddr3 past 1600 no matter what settings I tried.
Really wish I would have gotten an i5 2500k and a better motherboard.
Ya live and ya learn I guess.
Motherboards have gone retarded over the last couple of years.
They either have disgusting RGB lights everywhere or or stupid oversised heatsinks. There is still a stupid amount of red and black mobos as well.
The only mobo I have seen that I actually like lately is this but it has no optical out for audio which is a deal breaker.
>>58558443
>2 dudes mention optical out rarity
When did this become a thing? I've noticed a lot of tv's and media playback devices have ommited optical in/out. I wasn't aware mobo's were following suit.
I like optical. It's the only way I can bypass the >100ms latency causing hdmi ports on my receiver. Nothing seems to have digital coax either.
>>58558392
Fuck you, that motherboard looks great.
>>58558443
As does this one.
Could maybe do with a few white accents here and there, but plain black is much better than muh RGB meme and red gayming colour schemes.

>can't find the off setting for leds in bios
>>58558561
I don't know why they are phasing it out, it's not like no on uses it anymore. Many people still use it.
I suppose you could just buy a sound card, but that is added cost for something that you shouldn't have to buy.
>>58558573
looks like an Engi ship
>>58558567
I guess I meant more in terms of component and heatsink quality.
The heatsinks on my board and its revisions up to I think 1.4 have a pretty bad reputation. I even mounted my CPU cooler in a push configuration to ensure airflow over the VRM heatsink.
The south bridge heatsink also gets some criticism for being paper thin, although I doubt it's that big a deal.
I do miss high quality mobos with plain designs, however. I actually bought an XFX 7870 over others mostly because the design was so understated. Wish it were more like the following 270x version though.
>>58557454
Gigabyte's been making fabulous motherboards for a while now, and they're not too expensive.
>>58558443
welcome to 2017, check out the new Z270 they are almost all black/grey. Also, you can just turn off RGB on most mobos so i dont see the problem.
>>58558573
>asus warranty
thanks for the laugh, I'm off for today
>>58558698
Oh like that, alright. I do miss high-end mobos with plain designs too, though they have gotten a little better recently than they used to be if you know where to look.
Take MSI's Krait Edition boards for instance. They're not the best of the best you can get, but they're still very solid boards. Barebones when it comes to fluff-tier features like dumb audio and LED headers and whatnot which you'll find none of on these, but good components where it counts.
I decided on one of these back when I upgraded from my Q9400 to 4690k, mostly for the looks, good reviews too. Never had any problems with it, though MSI's UEFI can be a bit of a chore to navigate at times.
>He doesn't have a gamer mobo, specially designed to mow down enemies left and right.

What's the most aesthetically pleasing Mobo on the market
And to counter that
What's the most ugly looking Mobo on the market
Functionality need not apply. Just aesthetics matter
>>58558392
That board is like a tank. The northbridge heats up a lot though but it never failed on me.
>>58558301
Asrock is toptier
>>58558851
To be honest I'm most concerned with functionality and component selection these days.
I plan getting a monolithic windowless case when i eventually do a zen build.
Unless there's an OC capable mitx version down the line, in which case I'm getting a silver ft-01 to match my vintage audio junk.
>>58559003
Yeah I honestly think I just got a crappy-ish one. It's been great to me over the years despite the shortcomings.
I was actually looking at 990fx boards out of curiosity recently. Couldn't believe gigabyte made a version with usb c and m.2.
>>58558561
I had to look hard when I was replacing my mobo. I use a DAC that is optical only
