Fedora and Arch fags on suicide watch.
>>
Why is mint so obscenely popular? Is it a legit choice or just a meme?
>>
>>58554069
It's for people that think they are too advanced for "baby first linux ubuntu" so they move to basically the same thing
>>
>>58554056
This means exactly shit. It doesn't measure a distros popularity or usage. Just the number of page hits that a page gets. Fucking retard.
>>
>>58554141
I put it on my gf's laptop because it's essentially babby OS and it looks decent enough for her to want to use it.
>>
>>58554069
The DistroWatch Page Hit Ranking statistics are a light-hearted way of measuring the popularity of Linux distributions and other free operating systems among the visitors of this website. They correlate neither to usage nor to quality and should not be used to measure the market share of distributions. They simply show the number of times a distribution page on DistroWatch.com was accessed each day, nothing more.

>opensuse is ranked above fedora

bullshit list

mpv wouldn't even work on opensuse and i couldn't get the applications menu to turn on
>>

Because the best that can be said about Unity is "unfortunate". I still use Ubuntu, anyway.

Debian is and forever will be the best OS.

>Debian powers most of the internet.
>All the most successful special-purpose distros are based on Debian (Kali, Tails, Ubuntu)
>Debian has the largest organically formed open source community in the world.
>The NSA wants you to use RHEL and derivatives
>Debian implemented systemd in a straightforward way.

Just use Debian.

>>
>>58556016
has manjaro improved at all in the last few years? I remember trying to use it awhile ago but it was kinda shit
>>
>>58555982
Meh.
I just cant get myself to use apt-get.
It just sucks to type (dnf, yum or zypper just "flow" much more naturally) and not having apt-get search is just retarted.
>>
>>58554056
3. Largest distro is based on arch.
Why would anyone be on suicide watch?
>>
>>58556360
apt-get is a bit more flexible than yum actually. Not sure about dnf.

You can search with apt-cache search, which made sense under a stateless design where you don't know if a remote host has that package.
>>
>>58556299
I don't know. I switched to Manjaro last year when Win10 turned out to be just as retarded as Win8. GPU passthrough was a big reason for using Manjaro. Wanted more of a rolling release than the others. Redhat is what I'm used to though since the 90's (oldfag from the beginning).
>>
>>58556539
dnf should be very similar to yum, but I don't know about flexibility. All three do what I want them to do, but apts syntax sucks.

>apt-get
OK, something called apt gets me something, so this is probably the command to download a package and then I probably have to apt-install it and apt-search before…
>apt-get install
WTF? That's like saying RIP in Peace
>apt-cache?
It's a total clusterfuck. Sure, takes 3 minutes to memorize, but it's triggering my OCD

Manjaro is complete shit.

Tons of bloat, slow updates, and breaking things for no reason whatsoever.

um... I exclusively use it and I feel like at least a few others do

Just sayin

What do you think is so shit about it? I'm curious

don't listen to him. mpv is where it's at.

most people end up modding the shit out of it anyway, does it really matter if you use debian or arch or whatever other bullshit when everything but the core has been modified, uninstalled or replaced?

Click shilling. You can do this on phones by resetting your IP, or on some routers and SIM-card routers. Basically, solus shills are spammingly clicking on Solus. Notice the page says

That's linux in general though, at least Manjaro has the decency to offer an Openrc version
>>
>>58559133
Yes it does, because trying to mod Debian will end up with a burning house and a tactical flashlight up the bum
>>

Arch is primarily made for hardcore hackers and serious programming and top-notch server stuff
There aren't many geniuses around to actually use it
That's why n00b distros like Debian are so far up
>>
>>58560484
>implying the Kevinnet doesn't do it automatically
>>
>>58560732
> .... top-notch server stuff

Umm... Why would anyone use Arch for a server? It is a rolling release; things will definitely break, and a broken server means less money.
>>
>>58560780
Can't Arch be both a rolling release and a stable distribution? I find that hard to believe. Why would anyone choose Arch then if Debian offers both?
>>
>>58560794

Not as far as I know. Closest thing to stability they have is a mailing list telling you if something will definitely break.

And, I guess the reason people use Arch is primarily because rolling is a priority; Debian testing has freezes, but Arch doesn't.

Additionally, it first-class citizen PPA equivalent, unlike Debian.
>>
>>58560867
>Debian testing has freezes, but Arch doesn't.
Debian unstable doesn't freeze.
>>
>>58560879

I know. I would guess Arch is a little more stable and Debian unstable, though. If I'm wrong on that, then I couldn't really tell you why someone would use it other than AUR + hipster.
>>
>tfw no based CentOS in the top 5

>>58554291
That webm depresses me. Look at how happy she is when she's dancing with her suitcase or whatever it is. Then, when she has to flash pantsu for all the masturbating salarymen, watch the smile disappear. She hates it. She hates what the bosses are making her do. We are basically witnessing a rape here. It's agony to watch.
>>
>>58556360
use an alias then
>>
So does anyone here actually use Solus? Is it any good?

What would be the one most meaningful positive feature in the following:
- Ubuntu
- Elementary OS
- Solus
- Manjaro

It sounds like these distros have the potential to be for everyone, but which one should be the one that's polished for that purpose?
>>
>>58554056
That's not popularity. That's how many times people have viewed the DW page for the distro. The only thing that ranking shows is that people that browse DistroWatch have clicked the link to read about the distro and isn't an indicator of whether or not they went on to the actual distro's site, downloaded and installed it.
>>
>>58554239
This.
Arch or gentoo users, or other rolling release distro fans don't check distrowatch every day to see if that new iso is available.
Distrowatch page hits are based on the first distro link each visitor clicks each day.
>>
>>58556539
Being more flexible than Yellowdog Update Manager is like saying "well, I'm more skinny than rms"... It's just not an impressive feat.
>>
>>58560962

Frankly I would be more upset if it DID show up.

So now that the dust has settled, is solus actually worth using or is it just a meme?
I've seen a lot more people start using it, even other /g/entoomen.

Looking at the site it looks like an aesthetic and comfy little distro. Is it worth installing?

Ubuntu- Amazon teehee
Elementary- Pantheon drains my laptop battery like fuck
Manjaro- Bloated and ugly, why not just install arch and not deal with the shitty stock config manjaro comes with?

Solus' DE, budgie, is pretty gud too. I might switch back to arch later, but for now I'm pretty happy with it. The only thing that I absolutely fucking hate is the Alt-tab functionality of budgie. It's absolute garbage.
