looking at the membrane layout of the model M you can see that despite having 2kro you can still press the 5-6 buttons that most FPS games need.

Besides what keys are you talking about. As you can see 2kro is just fine

WASD
Reload hot key
Crouch/prone hot key
Mic hot key
That's 4-5 keys right there you can hit all at once. A 6th key can easily be added.

Another example that I admit is shit but you can make the argument for fat fingering all that too. That could involve more keys.
>>
>>58551098
The only problem I see is that you can't move forward with W then reload and talk at the same time, unless you reload first then push to talk, or if you bind push to talk somewhere else then it wont be an issue anymore. Otherwise if you look at the matrix everything else is fine

I was reading the faq and the red and brown switches seem pretty similar. Is it just personal preference as to which you prefer? I actually don't mind the feel of membrane keyboards, so I'm not likely to be particular about my first mechanical.

Didn't we all already agree that switch preference is just that, preference. Some people prefer topre, some prefer gaterons (or mx, idk), etc. Topre has a quality of tactility that no MX switch has, and is only closely matched by some very rare alps. Whether or not you like that is up to you, but many people do. That's it. Let's be happy and friends, please.

Since when did having a small ass keyboard for a desktop become popular? It's like using a goddamn cramped netbook keyboard.
>>
>>58558139
>Since when did having a small ass keyboard for a desktop become popular?

it hasn't, the vast majority of people still use a full size keyboard, this niche isn't representative of everyone.
>>
>>58558139
ergonomemes

I'd take a numpad but only if it was on the left side

lack of F buttons is usually something that comes with the layout unfortunately but I rarely use them anyway so having them on the function layer isn't a big deal
>>
what keycaps should I get for my pok3r? no LEDs

I'm thinking PBT DSA blanks maybe, but they don't have to be blank, and the color is more important

>>58549149
>>58555871
actually I can second that mx greens are much better than blues

>>
>>58558139
I've been suffering from RSI a couple of years, so having a numpad is literally painful. Could take one on the left tho.
I rarely use F1-12 buttons so I never really care. Holding Fn the few times I need one isn't a huge deal
>>
>>58558139
>How the fuck can you guys not want a numpad?
I never use it. It seems like it's only useful if you have a data entry job or something. All the keys on the numpad are duplicates from elsewhere on the keyboard but further from your home position. Also if you're right handed, omitting the numpad means you can put the mouse closer to the keyboard, which is better ergonomically.

>How the fuck can you guys want to not have F1-F12 buttons?
I rarely use these either. Most key shortcuts in programs I use are Ctrl+Letter or just plain letters.

>How does this in any way give you a better experience?
Putting these rarely-used keys on Fn layers is actually better because your hands don't have to stray far from their home position when you need to press them. It also frees up space on your desk. The HHKB, which is reasonably popular in these threads, takes these ideas to an extreme and puts quite a lot of keys on the Fn layer.

>Since when did having a small ass keyboard for a desktop become popular? It's like using a goddamn cramped netbook keyboard.
Not really. These have full-size keys and full travel, unlike laptop keyboards.

Your fingers don't have to move as far on a 60% due to the function layer. It's actually quite comfy and I find myself missing it when using other keyboards that are bigger. Stuff like fn-backspace for delete and fn-u/fn-o for pageup and pagedown is so handy.

not sure how I feel about this fc660c. I had a novatouch like a year ago (but sold it) and loved it, but this fc660c feels heavier to type on. Maybe i'm just not used to it yet (only been using it for like 2 hours). I was using browns before this so maybe that's why it feels heavy.

That's why you get a wrist rest and/or a chair with arms to help you keep your arms straight instead of hovering it.

["F1","F2",{x:0.25,a:0},"Esc\n\n\n\n\n`",{c:"#ffac00",a:4},"!\n1",{c:"#008fb0"},"@\n2",{c:"#249c78"},"#\n3",{c:"#a89f8d"},"$\n4",{c:"#dca2c8"},"%\n5",{c:"#cccccc"},"^\n6","&\n7","*\n8","(\n9",")\n0","_\n-","+\n=",{w:2},"Backspace",{c:"#008fb0"},"~\n`"],

Make sure any layer-switching fn keys you use are on both the layer they switch from and the layer they switch to

Use tkg.io's help page to see the codes for what you want

When ready, unplug board, plug back in while holding esc, hit the burn .eep button to flash your layout

I'm looking for a new mechanical keyboard.

>Budget
I dunno, up to $150 I guess, preferrably around $50 though since I never keep things for more than one or two years.

>Requirements
Red switches, a comfortable wrist rest, a standard QWERTY layout (a numpad isn't useful to me though) without making the keys compact as dried cat turds.

>Other
Backlights, macro keys, shortcut functions etc are never used so I don't care if they're there or not as long as it doesn't increase the price. I just don't want a comfortable keyboard for games.
>>
>>58562098

You mean a MasterKeys S? It's pretty nice for what it is. And yes, you can change the keycaps. If you want, you can try backlit stuff like some of the PBT sets from Vortex to keep the legends lit, or check Aliexpress for some chink keycaps.

They aren't universal, but the keyboard you have has a standard ANSI layout, which is the easiest one to find. Some sets do come with extra keycaps for ISO though, but you should check first. Really just check MechanicalKeyboards and AliExpress and most of the sets you find can fit just fine.

All of your fancy ass 200$ keyboards got nothing on my decade old dell desu
>>
Alright you guys are selling me on the non jap version.

The next question is how I rice it.
>>
The real question is pok3r or HHKB.
>>
>>58567956
neither. Get an Alps HHKB instead
>>
>>58567288
What's wrong with them?

What keyboard did you have before?
>>
>>58567894
They still make those
>>
>>58567956
Good luck finding a pok3r if you want red cherry.
>>
>>58567956
Honestly there isn't that much of a difference. You can just change the keylayout for caplocks to control. Main difference is the backspace.
>>
Can someone compare the HHKB 2 type s to the unicomp 104?

I have the 104 and thinking of picking up a HHKB type s.

Black and gold keycaps
>>
>>58569188
I have seen people claim they have bought enough grab bags to get a full matching set out of them. They could probably have bought a Korean custom with all the money they spent. Or they do those awful "vomit" designs where they throw a bunch of random mismatched keys on the board.

How do you tell which kind of switches and caps you are getting when you order from taobao? None of the options make sense.
>>
>>58569489
holy shit they actually did just make the audio passthroughs 3.5mm extension cables, i didn't expect that level of competence from razer.
>>
>>58569524
yup, I love it. As gaudy as it is I love being able to come home and plug my headphones from my phone quickly into my keyboard.
>>
>>58569593
i like having headphones with a detachable cable for that, when i want to take them out i just unplug the boom mic cable from them and leave it on my desk, then plug the pure audio cable in to the headphones and whatever device i'm listening to

request it on massdrop, maybe they'll acknowledge the request in nine months, run a drop three months after that, and finally deliver it to you six months from the drop ending

The black/yellow set is really nice actually. Not gonna bet 90$ to a chink keyset with no reviews though.
>>
>>58569522
I know a bit of Chinese so that helps, I guess. In any case, a translator works well enough, just bear in mind that the switches are named differently in Chinese (e.g. mx white is milk switch, mx clear is white switch).
>>
>>58569522
It's pretty clear when using Google Translate and then just remembering where each button is. Still, I know a bit of Japanese and some stuff is a bit similar, specially the switch color which is the most important, so most of it was easy to understand. Going from left to right, top to bottom on the Taobao page, the switch options (the ones without picture icons, those are cases, cables and wrist rests) are Black, Tea (Brown), Green and Red. All with white backlight.

Also, just a heads up, most of these are listed on local auction site Trademe. I've also advertised the White Fox keyboards on Massdrop but so far it's been a crapshoot. No, I will not make a Reddit account.

>>
>>58573631
I've heard their actuation force is like double of that of the browns I'm using now and I really don't want a tiring switch. It's why I don't really like Topre that much; I get tired typing on it (which isn't related to the actuation force but that you can't really not bottom them out).

Will I become as autistic as the rest of you and start spending 100+ dollars on keyboards after this due to inability to go back to anything less?

Have you tried a really light Topre, such as the ALL30g variant?
>>
>>58575967
Nope, I only tried 45g. Something about the switch just feels tiring to me. I don't typically bottom out my strokes so maybe that's why. With Topre it feels like I'm forced to do it.
>>
>>58576069
Yes, because Topre is pretty much designed for bottoming out. If you don't like that, try a different switch - nothing wrong with that.

good bye
