My laptop has a broken touch screen. Is there a way to disable it in Lubuntu? I usually use KDE, i3, or XFCE depending on my mood, but I'm willing to stick with one if only one has the option. If the touch screen isn't disabled, it does crazy clicks in the broken area and I can't do anything.

What does it need to serve? I've never bought anything specifically for server use. Servers hardware is always free if you're doing things right. If there's no need for it to be dedicated hardware or onsite, and the needs are minimal, it's often cheaper and more reliable to rent a VPS than power a server at home.

Hey /g/ it's /k/, I need computer help

1. My firefox USED to not load new tabs until viewed and no longer does, how do I get this back? Ex: I open 3-4 youtube videos in new tabs, and they used to only load when I finally moved to the tab. Now they auto load, so I have to mute/pause the extra videos. It's more than just youtube, obviously, and I really miss this.

2. I think my GPU is failing, or I have a memory leak. If I were to load, lets say, 40 tabs in any browser (even if just still images) my comp starts getting weird and shows artifacts. The browser tabs will go straight black, god forbid I open any program it will take about 20 minutes to load because it seems like the system is really taxed. It doesn't ALWAYS do this, maybe once a week. But it's a very clear fuckup, and I have to reboot to fix. Everything loads slow, shows artifacts, and crashes often. Usually Firefox will show about 6gb ram used, of the 12gb ram I have. GPU is a little old, Radeon HD 7800 2gb
>>
>>58546020
You can use this extension to disable autoloading of tabs.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/load-tab-on-select/
I've never used it, so I can't vouch for how well it works.

As for your second issue, first check your ram usage. If the memory usage does not look strange at all, then it probably is the gpu.

The third molar on my top teeth has come out and isn't impacted or anything, but is still erupting. Lately, though, it's causing me pain while I chew because there's no tooth at the bottom. If you have wisdom teeth, do you always have the top and bottom of that side?
>>
>>58546387
Also, I'm afraid that it's starting to angle itself or something. These symptoms are fairly recent, as they occurred only two or three days ago.
>>
>>58546387
Eventually wisdom teeth come out at top and bottom on both sides. But it's best to get them x-rayed at a dentist to check if they aren't growing sideways, which in that case they have to be cut out. (Isn't that bad as it sounds with anaesthasia.)

I recently installed an SSD on my dads computer. It's an HP Compaq 4300 Small Form Factor. Any idea how to change transfer modes?

It's a Harry Potter reference. I didn't get it at first either.

Hufflepuff is that one branch of that school where they're at (I don't remember what it's called) along with Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Your download speed has a lot of variations that have nothing to do with your wiring/wifi or your ISP like the host you're downloading from. Are you sure taskman has it in MB/s and not Mb/s? 200-300 KB/s ~= 1.6-2.4 Mb/s. That's Bytes (8 bits) vs Bits (1 bit).

>>58550382
>Why is the result to the billionth decimal place?
It's probably a floating point precision error. The data type you're using doesn't have sufficient precision to distinguish between 110.00000000000001 and 110.00000000000000. Switch from float to double if you haven't already. If that doesn't work for you, consider using fixed point arithmetic.

>What's the easiest way of reducing it to 2 DM?
That depends on the language. You'll probably want it to keep that precision for future calculations, but format it to 2 decimal places for output. It looks like you're using Java, so the java.text package with
>NumberFormat formatter = NumberFormat.getCurrencyInstance();
should format a string for you that looks like money.

No, shut up. Precisions are the best, Latitudes are good, Inspirons are shit, XPS is consumer shit but good. Of course, there's differing levels of quality in each of those lines - several Latitudes are on the same level of quality as the Inspiron. Don't ask me which ones, though. Their model numbers make no sense.

Also, Lenovo and Asus are shit-tier. The former moreso than the latter, who makes (made?) a good cheap Chromebook.

No matter what you try to get, don't go HP. Chromebooks > Streams, Latitudes/Precisions > Probooks, and try not to buy dogshit.

Currently, though, Dell seems to be the best laptop manufacturer. Even the Inspirons BTFO everything else at the same price level.

running win10, alienware 15 R2, updated all drivers yesterday and both my GPU and HDD keep overheating. this is the second time this error has happened but my computers been seizing up and shutting down for months while I've been trying to figure out what the fuck is going on. sensors read an avg GPU temp of around 120-130F with no programs/games open except for chrome to google these error msgs. Closing chrome has no effect on the temperature. So whats normal for GPU temperatures anyways? I have no frame of reference for whats abnormal v what I should be aiming for.

The only thing I can think of in relation to the HDD is that it has to be close to the GPU and somehow they're both heating each other up unchecked because of whatevers stopping the fans from automatically turning on. Could it be some kind of connection issue between the hardware and the mobo?

I mean its a gaming laptop, so I expected some kind of heat issue but not to the point of drive failure.

Anything under 50°C is OK, 55° More or less but its still correct.

Drive failure for heat is really rare, that is why i told you to get a Linux USB so you can read the SMART data of your HDD to see if its failing or fucked.
You can do the same in windows with Speccy if you wanna(Speccy>Storage>SMART).

Hooking up asus monitor to my pc for the first time and it keeps saying VGA not connected and the same for HDMI 1 and 2, but all the cables that came with it are plugged in and everything seems fine?

Change monitor settings to work over HDMI and not VGA.

You had another monitor working on that PC right?
>>

I wouldn't give a shit about any chip temps below 90. Stop worrying and just use your computer and clean it once a year. More if you have no HEPA.

How can I make MPC look less washed out / high-gamma? It's impossible to make out certain details when the image is bright enough.
Windows Media Player looks the same, but VLC and the Windows & TV app look like I expect they should.
I've used MPC for years but never fucked around with the settings - is there some simple fix for this issue?

I replaced my graphics card some months back when one that's not high-end, but still an upgrade over my old one.

Only problem is this one keeps running too hot and I'm not sure why.

It gets like 50C doing literally nothing sometimes, even after cleaning out my computer.

Even Facebook of all fucking things makes it start audibly trying to cool off. It's frustrating and makes me scared to play any games.

Are there any reliable ways to figure out what's causing all the heat?

How are you able to get shows off EZTV? It just tells me that the indexer doesn't support searches and it fails to find anything.
>>
>>58552835
>S.M.A.R.T disabled
Why the fuck a vital feature would be disabled?
S.M.A.R.T recollects data of your HDD/SSD life to verify everything is working correctly.

Also that isnt a HDD but a SSD, its normal for them to get hot under load.

What was your problem again?

not supporting search doesn't mean it wont work, just that it might only be able to see the latest torrents (which works fine when you're getting new releases)
>>
>>58552876
i also called it "HDD" because speed fan is identifying one of the items overheating as "HDD".

>Change fan Idle settings.
I don't know shit about fans other than "Want them working", so could you elaborate a bit?

>Anything under 70°C is fine.
In general or just idling?
Because when I'm not running anything or working on anything it tends to sit between 40-50, but when playing games it gets up to 80-90, which always seemed bad.
It doesn't help that I always get inconsistent answers on good temps.

>Which GPU you bought?
AMD Radeon R7 360. I was too broke for anything nicer but my old one died and this one seemed like an affordable upgrade.

Anon if you can return it and get a RX 460(Also a low end $90 GPU but recent enough to run most stuff in high settings).

That is a really oudated GPU and not worth its price this days.

By any chance you only have one exhaust fan?

This is the issue I'm having.

Both of these programs are fresh installs so there's no way someone else hasn't run into the same problem.
>>
>>58553041
Is your case or motherboard dusty?

Also R7 and R9 GPUs were a joke back then, literally called housefires, when AMD GPUs werent a option of how bad they were.
RX Series are really good though.

Drivers should have the option to change how the fan works.
>>
>>58553064
Install CCCP or KCP.

>>58553007
Your problem is definitely driver related, there is not a lot you can do other than reinstall or install a older/newer version and hope everything works fine.
>>
>>58553075
>Install CCCP or KCP

I installed MPC as part of CCCP so that's definitely not the issue. I'll give KCP a try though.
>>
>>58553075
I hope you're right. I wanted to try to re-install the older version of the original driver after I updated the BIOS but I was worried because the original issue could've been corrupted drivers and wouldn't re-installing yet ANOTHER one in there mess it up even more? Or does it replace/repair the files instead?

I guess I have no choice at this point.
>>
>>58553065
>Is your case or motherboard dusty?
It was cleaned recently, though there are still some spots that I can't get completely clean without dismantling the whole damn thing, simply because the computer itself I've had since 2011.

>Also R7 and R9 GPUs were a joke back then, literally called housefires, when AMD GPUs werent a option of how bad they were.
Fuck me why do I never hear about this shit beforehand. I'm still broke and I don't want to think about what a pain it'll be trying to replace this thing. I have a Square Trade plan but I don't think they'll refund me, only replace it. Guess I'm out 100 bucks next chance I get.

>Drivers should have the option to change how the fan works.
I wouldn't know what to change it to, though.
Can I just use Speedfan? I've used that for checking temps for years now, and it seems to have the ability to mess with fan settings.
>>

Ok, so the obvious things to look for is number of devices on your wireless network, what kind of gateway/router you're using (if you're using the wireless on a gateway provided by your ISP, you might as well be using dialup if you have more than like 4 devices, so get a WAP or a router if that's the case), what standard you're using and what frequency it's on (5ghz is supported by both 802.11ac and n, but doesn't travel through/around obstructions well), what your wireless card is in your device, how far away from the AP you are, etc.

Then, once you've eliminated all of that and interference from overlapping channels (try plugged in as a half-splitting method), you can go ahead and check splitters and cable (if you're using copper) to the drop. Once all that is ruled out, your ISP won't do shit until you complain for a bit about their cables on the street because they'll send a tech to measure the signal inside your house only and conclude that it's your wiring without taking power checks disconnected with a terminator first to measure attenuation in the inside line.

Two questions
1. Is it at all possible to run the audio from my ps4 and pc through the same headset? I like to trophy grind and if I could listen to a podcast through the same headset I use to play the game, that would make it heaps better.
2. I have a wireless headset that also has a 9mm jack. It has a microphone. Can I use the headset microphone to chat on PS4? It doesn't seem to detect it because it's wireless, but I'm sure there will be a dongle that can do it for me.
>>
>>58554155
that's fine if that's what you want to do
>>
>>58554282
For your first question you could either get a mixamp/mini audio amplifier to mix in the audio outputs or plug in a audio jack from the TV or PS4 with a HDMI to audio splitter into your computer and use Voicemeeter to mix your PS4 jack and Stereo Mix.
>>
>>58554135
RIP. Switch off the machine now, boot up a live CD, try running extundelete. No guarantees it'll recover everything, but good odds you'll get at least some of it back.

>>58554282
Could run PS4 audio into line in of PC, either through cable to the controller, or through optical to analogue converter box. Then use the PC output to your speakers/headphones.

absolutely. I do something similar with my second PC - I run it's audio output (SPDIF coax) to the input on my sound card and mix it with the audio from my primary PC.

I need a microphone, just to chat with my m8s.

What's something good to get?
I kind of don't want to get a headset+mic thing because i'm happy with my headset.

i have no idea what determines quality in a mic or price range for this shit

does it even matter?
>>
>>58554479
As long as it's not garbage quality any microphone should be fine. I would just get a decently priced one on amazon with good reviews. No need to spend more than $20.

You might want one with a mute button. And depending on your setup USB or 3.5mm might be more convenient.

Looks like the 3.5mm jack does audio in only, mic has to be through bluetooth, which PS4 doesn't do. Could route the audio through a PC to do it, although the connections may be a bit of a mess.
>>
>>58554672
Is it a desktop? if so, it most likely does. Will be colour coded blue if it's following the standard.

Or you could get a cheapo USB sound card with line in.
