I have a good grasp of C++; l want to get into learning to use neural networks. What are some books that can help me get started?

Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach has pretty good information on the toic.
If that's not your cup of tea, check out Machine Learning by Tom M. Mitchell, it's denser with more mathematics inside it.
Thankfully there isn't a Neural Nets for Dummies out yet.
Except for this thing:

Why use c++ though? I was under the impression the most used languages in neural nets/AI are Python, R, and Lisp?

I am willing to learn a new language. I am not set on using C++, its just the language I'm most comfortable with using.

yep. it takes a futuristig neural network to figure out a haircut for this guy

Language doesn't really matter.
You can even make an AI in javascript

If you're good at maths (and I mean really good university level maths), then I'd recommend Simon Haykin's Neural Networks and Learning Machines
