Why do you need sudo to update your repos?
I don't.
I don't.
You also need sudo on Widoze.
>>58518365
Because theoretically someone could point your repos to some malicious third party.
>>58518560
but then you'd need sudo to actually install or upgrade your programs
>>58518503
You can turn that off lol.
because the packages are installed system wide and your normal user doesn't have permission to copy the files.
>>58518650
and it isn't a good idea
>>58518650
you don't turn it off, you just avoid the prompts
>>58518666
>666
Obviously you are correct, dark lord.
>>58518631
yes but they wouldn't look like malicious programs at that point, so you'd give sudo rights without further thought

>"Why do I need administrative rights to add a potentially malicious software source to my system?"
>>58518365
Sudo does more things than just let you use comands as root
You can configure it to enable you to update your system without the need of any type of password, And no you dont put your OS at risk by doing this.
>>58518365
>Why do you need sudo to update your repos?
because running as root is cancer
>not using `su -' to log in as root to perform administrative tasks
>>58518768
He said updating repos, not adding repos. If you get malicious shit with a repo update, security failed long time ago.
>>58518365
you don't. Just run the command while logged in as root/using su like any non-braindead people would.
>>58518688
Indeed, my loyal minion
I don't. It's my home computer so I only have the root account.
