I don't get the hate for Hamilton, I like my Khaki 42 about as much as any watch I have. The ETA 2834-2 in it is generic yes, but it's a decent movement and the watch is well built, the case is nice and streamlined, and feels solid as fuck with the stock bracelet.

I know everyone wants to say muh shitter. etc... But this watch is nothing like Steinshit or a tissot quartz shitter.

Those two forks with jewels on the ends are connected to the main tuning fork. The vibration (at 360Hz) thus pushes the index wheel forward. Just search up the accutron 214 (spaceview) if you want more detailed info. Lot of space history with the watch.
>>
>>58511470

It PUSHES it??

Like, the friction between the jewels and the wheel is enough that it makes it turn?

Max Hetzel. The engineering that went into the 214 beggars belief considering it's essentially 1950s technology.

Another tuning fork movement done by max. This time the index wheel (aka 'la sourris') is a magnetic gear completely encapsulated in oil, and attached to the tuning fork itself. La sourris is only 2.5mm wide, just to get a sense of scale for the parts in it.

They recently made a new dess model that actually looks like a watch and less like a car dashboard.

You can also play around with a widget on the page to see how it works: https://ressencewatches.com/watches/type-1-2
I actually didn't realize the subdials were rotating around the minute hand. That's even sicker than I thought, this watch is made by absolute mad men.

Believe me, you don't want the picture captchas, they take forever to load, fuck up on most browsers, and they fail for no reason half the time. They're also supposed to use dank technologies to check if you're human without having to do anything aside from ticking a box, but facts is, it never works.

a couople threads back i mentioned that i emaile Obris Morgan, inquiring about when they'd have some more watches for sale.
below is the reply i received.

Thank you so much for your letter and interest.
We will sell watch. Just from the beginning of 2016. The supply of movement became shortage
and we waited for a year but still don't know when the movement will delivery.
And Explorer-II project was on held and delay. It may not available in short time.
Refer to Explorer-I, that was discontinued model, we may not re-produce it on future.
BTW, do you want me notify when there are updates about Explorer Project?

Thank you very much =)

I still use the chronograph function occasionally, despite the protestations of my watchmaker (the one weakness of the Lemania 5100 movement is that the chronograph reset lever can wear out over time through use).

I still use it as I still have another NOS L5100 date lever in storage if I ever need it. If I have to put THAT one in, then I might start avoiding using the chrono.

Seems Ulysse Nardin is the only one being inventive and making up for the rest of the industry:
https://monochrome-watches.com/ulysse-nardin-innovision-2-sihh-2017/

It is the silicon technology and especially the sapphire coated silicon bridge in particular I find interesting. This should enable far better timekeeping at lower production cost. Realistically I don't think the industry will pass on the cost reduction to customers the first 5 years, until Asian competitors move in that is.

I'm a sucker for Mechanical Skeleton watches. I just picked up this Michael Kors one to wear to work since my Seiko became worn. I would like a nicer/more expensive skeleton watch to wear out though, any suggestions? I know little about watches.

I have some random fashion watch and I want to replace the glass with sapphire. Can I just go to any watchmaker and he'll do it? How long would it take and how much would I be charged?

I'm also going to keep digging to see if there is a Canadian supplier who sells pieces. I would still prefer to pay a /WT/ poster for straps then play $150/strap to some dude in Montreal.

Actually, the in-house Tudor movement is a lot more cutting edge than pretty much all Rolex movements.

Rolex is weighted down by its own tradition, while Tudor is a lot more free to experiment with the combined Rolex/Tudor expertise (Tudor was founded and is still owned by Rolex btw).

But I agree that the Black Bay's looks aren't that exciting.

The Pelagos on the other hand is genuinely great in every way.

Fuck off. Buy a proper $4000 name brand watch so I rob the right guy

Get a Calvin Klein or Michael Kors watch those things are top notch and not too heavy on the wallet

Much better power reserve, silicon hairspring, ball bearing rotor off the top of my head.

Also the finishing which is much more modern and utilitarian than the old perlage and cotes de geneve.
>>
>>58532419
those are actually p good, you've changed my mind a bit. i still do think its a rolex ebauche tho.
>>
>>58532472
No shame in this movement having Rolex movement features.
Tudor was always meant to be the utilitarian alternative to Rolex' luxury.

A lot of people shit on Fossil, but in reality, they have some good designs at a fair price. If you get them on sale, like you did, there is nothing wrong with it. The same thing happens when someone who spends over $1000 gets outclassed and outperformed by a Parnis in every way, so they shed a few tears over their Oris or Frederique Constant. While they do bash the Parnis, they are fully internally aware of the fact that a Parnis can potentially run much better within COSC certification, at only a fraction of the price at $100. People have subconscious jealousy and contempt here. They know that their F. Constant only has some standard 316L SS, while Parnis has 316L Chemically treated Marine grade stainless steel, the same Steel that a company like Omega uses.
But yes, get a watch you like, Fossils can be nice.

The only watches I've been able to actually recognize in the wild were an Omega Seamaster and a Rolex datejust. There's been some Seiko's, but they're usually the quartz or meca quartz ones and a ton of fashion brands.

Fossil also makes a ETA 2824-2 clone.
