Not big on computers but I've been having issues lately disconnecting from certain game services, and I'm fairly sure it's my modem's fault.
I was thinking of buying another modem and replacing the one I have. What would happen if I did and am I allowed to do that without losing my current network?

Depends on the last-mile protocol they use. If its DOCSIS, it might be difficult.
Yes. If it's cable you'll have to register it with your provider, but if DSL you just need the login credentials.

You only have yourself to blame

You have to call and give them your modems MAC address. Registering makes it sound like a big deal.

no you don't, yoy just need to enter the credentials into the routers set up page
also op "disconnecting" for om only league of legends isnt you're modems fault

If you're in the U.S., your cable company is legally obligated to let you use whatever DOCSIS-compliant modem you bring.
If you're in Canada, you're fucked. There is no regulation on Bring-Your-Own-Modem and HAVE to use the cable company's modem.

The process depends on the ISP. For Cox I had to fill out a form before plugging in my modem to enter the relevant info while for Comcast I just plugged it in and it directed me to a login page.
