This is a newly arrived "vr workstation" for the virtual realy laboratory at my university.
Pretty sure we don't ever need 256GB, my boss just gets bezerk when he's got 10k budget for a rig.
We use this thing for photogrammetry software, shitty programmed vr cad modelling software (IC.IDO), video rendering, real time mixed reality setups etc.

Well, its a server and not really supposed to restart all the time. Even new systems with much less ram take forever to boot. Especially if the BMC has to boot as well.
