Post your main operating system/distribution and list a couple of pros/cons. I'll start.

Fedora

Pros
>Free and open source
>Supported by major company
>Excellent integration of gnome
>Up to date packages
>Very little bloat on fresh install

Cons
>Companies don't always write software for Linux
>Default repository does not support license encumbered software
>>
>>58502776
What is that arch logo??
>>
Arch
Pros:
>AUR
>Less bloated binary based distro I know
>Repo almost as big as debian
Cons
>Memes
>Memes
>SystemD
>Sperg elitist instalation
>Memes

Honorable Mention
Void
Pros:
>Not bloated
>No SystemD
>No sperg installation
>Xdg-build~=AUR
Cons:
>Small repo
>>
>>58502846
That's the old one, I think.
>>
>>58502894
Oh I thought they'd gotten away from the fat guy logo
>>
>>58502882
You can disable systemd in arch
>>
>>58502776

Gentoo

Pros:
>Memes
>Customization
>USE flags
>OpenRC

Cons:
>Memes
>Compiling everything
>USE flags
>>
openSUSE Tumbleweed
Pros
>Easy
>Rolling (And there's even a non-rolling version if you don't want that)
>Incredibly stable despite being rolling release - even the notably fragile KDE Plasma 5 doesn't break
>KDE's own settings panel + Yast = immense control in a small space
>Cool icon

Cons
>ISO size is off-putting compared to many distros. (4.7gb)
>More steps to install and get working
>People tend to ignore this distro for no good reason.

Coming up with legitimate cons for openSUSE is difficult.
>>
Windows
>Just werkz
>Has the best software
>Easy to install
>>
Ubuntu GNOME 16.04

Pros:
>Comfy DE
>Just werks
>Enormous repos
>Lots of support

Cons:
>Outdated GNOME
>apt
>A weird audio bug on my machine
>>
Manjaro
Pros:
>AUR
>Low memory usage
>Less painful install process
>free and open source
Cons:
>It's Arch
>Lack of software
>Not super stable
>>
>>58503724
Been considering switching to SUSE for a while. Any other reason to be wary of using it?
>>
>>58502776
KDE neon

Pros:
>Up to date KDE
>Stable
>Not so bloated as other ubuntu derivates

Cons:
>ubuntu based ;(
>>
>>58503976
>It's gonna create the BIGGEST firewall america ever seen
>>
>>58503724
I can make some reasons to ignore openSUSE:
>Full Disk Encryption option in the installer is shit
>Forces back to tty after any reboot/shutdown
>Some settings are hidden in the installer (Like hostname, idk why most RPM distros do this. OpenSUSE is the worst offender, though.)

I want to like OpenSUSE, but it doesn't want to like me.
>>
Windows 8.1

Pros
>kinda comfy (with a little work)
>not botnet (as far as i know)
>things work
>i'm very used to windows

Cons
>things i wish i could change
>not free
>bloatware
>heavy memory usage
>no start menu

I'm slowly trying to figure out how to use FreeBSD
>>
>>58505385
There's also the fact that you can't live-boot it. Sorry, but I want to be able to test a distro before committing to installing it.
>>
>>58505480
There is a live cd, but IIRC, you cannot install it with it.
>>
>>58502882
>SystemD
You already said memes twice.
>>
>>58505491
Really? I've only ever been able to find live CDs for older versions.

TempleOS
Pros:
>HolyC
>Created by Jesus Reincarnate
>Includes applications to teach the enlightened way

Cons:
>Creator nutters
>CIA Niggers may detain you
>No networking (it's for the naive children anyway)
>>
>>58503724
For some reason fprint works in fedora but not in opensuse, thats one con I can think of otherwise it's top notch.
>>
>>58502882
The repo is pretty fucking small as shit actually, but the aur is significantly larger than debian repos.
>>
>>58504573
The initial steps you need to take to give it some functionality you would normally expect (mp3 playback, stuff like that) might be a bit weird at first if you're coming from a distro like Ubuntu where that stuff is included by default.

That's really it, though. I went from *buntus to openSUSE and, after learning how to deal with those codecs (basically just adding the packman repository and installing) and learning how to use zypper, it's been a smooth ride.

>>58505385
>Forces back to tty after any reboot/shutdown
Do you mean the few seconds of text it shows before shutting down or restarting like normal? Because that has yet to be an actual issue for either of those functions. (On my machine, at least.)

>>58505537
I believe they are up-to-date with the live CD's. It's stupid you can't install with it, but at least it's there.
