you can't sign up without giving them your phone number

also nice chrome extension there, kek
>>
Right now, Signal if you're using your phone number, Wire if you're not.

>>58499604
Sorry, I know that it means well, but Tox is unfortunately poorly designed. Just because it uses NaCl doesn't mean it has well-formed protocols.

Rather than trying to fix what they have, Threema-style, I suggest they should throw their existing protocol in the bin and use the Signal (message) and Noise (transport) protocol frameworks, or if not Signal then the newest OMEMO or Olm (which have similar constructions and designs but easier multi-device semantics).

They also need to take a long hard look at what long-known attacks would do to their DHT.

>>58498764
How the fuck do you sign up for Telegram anyway without using your real phone number?
>>
>>58500113
The most private way with Telegram would most likely be to buy a cheap SIM card from a supermarket to simply activate your account. The phone number the Telegram account is attached to doesn't necessarily have to be the phone number of the device you're using it on.
>>
>>58500113
You can't. Just don't use Telegram.

Why not?
>>
>>58500338
1. requires your phone number
2. shit crypto
3. lacks features

Wire is better in every way. (Even Whatsapp and Signal are better, if you don't mind using your phone number.)
>>
>>58498764
wire, the only good one.
>>
>>58499396
Then use the fork you autist.

How? Has it been broken?

Such as?

Not denying that Wire is better though.

Telegram is open source. You can get on F-Droid. Best ever.
>>
>>58498764
Signal and Wire are the only legit options.

I don't use Android so I don't give a shit. And Wire has dedicated desktop applications.

You can kill yourself at any moment.

>>58500450

Lol, no thanks. A phone number is a shitty way to authenticate anyway, since it can be stolen by state actors at the very least. And if you get an extra SIM you have to keep it alive, otherwise the number gets recycled.
>How? Has it been broken?
It's broken by design. Also encryption is limited to "secret chats" only (1 on 1 messaging).
>Such as?
Calling, either voice or video.

Telegram is one of those pointless services that isn't really good at anything.
If you don't mind using your phone number and want a large userbase use Whatsapp.
If you want a phone-free option that works on multiple devices use Wire.
>>
>>58500176
if you're going to do that, why would you not use Signal
>>
>>58500419
Fakie McFakename Cease and Desisted it.

Who cares if the client is open source, when the server isn't.
