What is the appeal of resolutions higher than 1080p? There's almost no optimised content for higher resolutions, everything is small or badly upscaled, videos, webpages, os ui etc. Also monitors bigger than '24 are too big for practical usage imo. What do you think?

If you use some outdated OS.

More space and sharper fonts.

Which is pretty much every OS with the exception of macOS. All other OS STILL have problems with scaling in some applications. Then add multi display setups and everything goes down the shitter completely.

MacOS doesn't have this problem.

Unless made of images these tend to scale extremely well. Some layouts may use "px" units, but CSS defines that as 1/96" and thus most web content is completely DPI independent.

Sure but then it's not a thing because of HiDPI screens but because of lazy devs and the more HiDPI screens get sold, the more initiative there will be to adapt.
Also most Linux distrus handle it alright and I think even MS fixed the multi display issues but overall you're right, it's still kinda messy unless you're using macOS, just not bad enough, to not buying a future proof screen.

High DPI screens aren't macOS specific.
>>

Where did I say they were?
>>
>>58498082
you said macOS doesn't have this problem which implies that OS has something to do with it.

>which implies that OS has something to do with it
But it does.

>hardware X works perfectly on software A
>hardware X doesn't work well on software B
Hence the issue is with software B and not hardware X.
>>

Yes, the OS. The software. High PPI screens are hardware, anon.
