Apple arguments on /g/

Apple users

>Post their reasons as to why they go with Apple when asked
>Well formed posts made by clearly stable and mature individuals
>A clear understanding of what they want in a product and why they are willing to pay a premium price
>Generally come across as well adjusted adults

People who don't like Apple

>Relentless low quality posting and copy pasting
>LOL UR GAY XD STEVE JOBS AIDS FAGGOT XD MACFAG XD
>Legitimate arguments are one in a million
>"If it doesn't suit my needs it's complete shit for everyone" child like mindset
>"Power in a computer is absolutely everything" belief held by almost every poster
>Absolutely no concept of how some products might not be aimed at them
>Come across as extremely angry individuals

I bet if we polled the two sides there would be a large age gap, with the Apple users being older almost every time.

I'm a musician. I've used Cubase etc. on WIndows. Even with low latency sound cards recording music on WIndows is a ballache.

Recently I bought an iMac.........The soundchips on Macintosh are low latency and there is no need to buy an additional soundcard etc and go through all of the hassle of installing drivers for the low latency soundcard in Windows.

Also the Logic Pro is a better DAW than Cubase.

They have optimized shared VRAM, so basically, if the graphics card's VRAM doesn't suffice, the remaining workload is put on the RAM. How this doesn't slow down performance (it really doesn't) is a mystery to me. You can watch 1080p 60fps on a 2010 Mac Mini with only 256 mb of VRAM. I'd upgrade to 4 or 8 GB RAM beforehand though

Simple as that.
Have an iPhone and another Apple product (e.g. rMBP)? You can make phone calls, text, and facetime from it as well as picking up where you left off in another application.

It just werks. Sounds like a meme but once you stop wanting to tweak everything to your liking and just want to open your laptop and get shit done, never having to worry or even think about the OS is fucking godly.

Also the overall experience with the uniformity of the UI between different programs, whether you're using Apple stuff like iTunes, xcode, Safari or 3rd party stuff like Word, it's all very similar in every program and you have never to waste time on looking for a way to do X.

Oh and it's pretty too, partially subjective of course but something like font rendering is objectively close to perfection. Trackpad gestures are cool too and help the workflow a lot once you're used to them.

Another guy mentioned continuity, it's a big plus too. Was one reason why I switched from Android.

>>58489425
>Professional content creators use windows
Even Microsoft product designers use macOS. Nice pasta tho.
>>
>>58485224
Apple users might be well-adjusted adults but they're not tech literate or financially savy.

It's definitely a following the crowd thing as well as the meme that "it just works" and "no viruses". They're good people, just not good with their money.

Especially anyone with a MacBook Pro from any year who does not do serious video or music editing. I can admit the superiority of Apple hardware there.

But there is absolutely no good reason to have a MacBook Pro 2016. This is without exception. You deserve ridicule from autists giggling and shouting about le dongles to your face.

It doesn't even have an SD card slot for fucksake. My old beat-up ThinkPad from 20-fucking-6 has an SD card slot and so does that expensive camera your film major ass is using for the videos you are editing.

Even something as simple as a flash drive is a fucking complication for you, as if you were using some sort of starving African child's Chromebook. You don't deserve money if you're going to spend it like that; get last year's model you degenerate. You're probably also the kind of chucklefuck that has Air Pods for your iPhone 7.

There is no good reason to spend more than three to four hundred dollars on a machine that is almost entirely going to be used for browsing the internet and business/school programs like word processors and powerpoint. And that is what 95% of Mac laptop owners use them for.
>>
>>58485224
I'm sorry but you're just projecting bullshit.

We have Apple users here who are brainwashed into thinking that force touch to enable free cursor movement in text entry is a good feature and better than Android when on Android you can just tap and then drag the cursor around.
Apple devices lacking force touch just can't move the cursor freely.

No matter how well spoken an Apple supporter is they just can't be taken seriously due to the brainwashing they are undergone. I'm sorry, that's just the way it is.

>"If it doesn't suit my needs it's complete shit for everyone" child like mindset

>There is no good reason to spend more than three to four hundred dollars on a machine that is almost entirely going to be used for browsing the internet and business/school programs like word processors and powerpoint. And that is what 95% of Mac laptop owners use them for.
Let's assume you're correct with your last sentence for a second, why does it mean there is no good reason if there is no better laptop to do that shit?

I bought the noportsbooks mostly for word processors because there was not a single other laptop that fitted my needs as well. 1.4k is nothing for me, while having a laptop I enjoy to work on is pretty damn sweet.

Alternatively you could show me a laptop for 400 bucks with HiRes 16:10 or 3:2 screen, 8h+ battery life, that weights less than one kilo and got a godly trackpad. Hard mode: It has continuity.
>>
Power in a computer IS everything.
Why would I buy a toaster on order to replace it on 1-2 years when the shinier toaster comes out?
>>
I've been working for AppleCare for the past year. I did not want to purchase anything Apple before I started and I sure as shit don't want to now. It's all poorly automated garbage that requires you to throw the baby out with the bath water if any one part of it should fuck up. Forget reinstalling individual drivers if any one should fuck up. Forget reinstalling components if any single one should fuck up. Reinstall the OS, go to the Apple Store. Don't do anything yourself, you are an idiot, Apple has no respect for you and they want more of your money.

windows just werks too, especially if you buy a new product and don't have a moron shit it up with years of crap.

Some unnecessary bloat will be on any out the box thing you get but its largely benign.

Today I was typing a title into the YouTube search bar and it just shut down. Not a system crash, since the actual screen with the gay circle wheel popped up. >>
>>58489605
This is one of the only valid arguments I've seen, and it is a pretty nice feature.

Personally, I don't mind Mac OS X that much except for a few things:

1. Lack of customizability, most importantly I can't run i3wm on it.
2. No real package manager. Yes, there's homebrew, but it's not really as robust as something like Pacman.
3. Can't run it on any hardware other than Apple hardware. VMs are dogshit with OS X, and I'm not counting Hackintosh because it's illegal and not compatible with most hardware.

Other than that, it's not too bad, but not good enough to make me want to switch over from Linux and Windows.

SD card slots are not the standard anymore. The hardware you are using is outdated. It's not Apples fault you refuse to adapt.

I don't get why people are getting mad at Apple for trying to push new technology forward. Thunderbolt 3 is objectively better than any alternative. If anything /g/ should be supporting the MacBook Pro, as it will allow for better and faster ways for external devices to connect.

On Windows however, the performance worsens, because the GPU tact has to be the same as the RAMs
Meaning, if you have slow RAM and your shitty graphics card can't take it, it'll stutter like shit.
Apple however got the best of it since:
1.) They don't put powerful GPUs with tactrates over their RAM in there (at least from 2006 to 2012, after that they started to use actually good GPUs that can handle shit by themselves)
2.) Their RAM is always one of the fastest, not the fastest, but they don't put slow RAM in there.

My father's Win7 PC has a 512 mb nVidia 8400GS and 4 GB of 666 (or 667) MHz RAM. His CPU is a Pentium something with 3.0 GHz Dual Core. It can't handle 1080p 60fps.

The 2009 iMac however has a nVidia GeForce 920M (or something like that) with 256 mb of VRAM and the RAM is clocked at around 1066 MHz.
It can play 1080p just fine.

Apple aren't idiots, the opposite applies. Besides Tim Cook's "Look how thin xDDDD" memery

I see it wasn't a joke so let's me explain it, 8XXX series came out in 2006, 9XXX about two years later then nvidia changed numbers to 1XX with 920M coming out somewhere last year, so 2009 iMac can't have 920M but 9200 that's one thing, if it's 920M then it's new iMac and therefore about 800% more powerful, if it's 9200 then you again compare stuff from different decades because 1066MHz in RAM was a standard in 2005 when I got my second PC and my 5 or so yo toaster use 1333MHz.

Don't be mad at me if I don't know everything about PCs. I'm just too lazy to look it up.

Sorry, it was a 320M. Just mixed up numbers in there

>I'm not an Apple user

Make up your mind and if you knew what you're talking about you wouldn't use Mac at all.
>>58497378
First step of knowledge is knowing what you don't know and you clearly don't know even that. Even my mother know what RAM is and these few numbers because she read it on specification page. And this come from someone had problem to make adblock work correctly so I'm almost tech illiterate as well.
>>58497394
Oh this make perfect sense because 320M is still more than twice more powerful comparing to 8400GS and I'm pretty sure every GPU after 9XXX have some extra HD support.
>>
>>58497608
Well, my laptop still runs Win10, but my main will be a Mac Mini, so it's half-half, since I'm a schoolfag.

I know what RAM is, so don't now why you're so mad. I just didn't know the specs of the Mac Mini that well anymore.

Just a question:
Why in the hell is a GPU with 256 mb VRAM (320M) more than twice more powerful than a GPU with 512 mb (8400GS) VRAM?

shit is usable out of the box, only real thing that you HAVE to chose would be a web browser, at least beyond the normal plug the router in or sign into the router, and installing motherboard drivers.
>>
>>58497683
>Why in the hell is a GPU with 256 mb VRAM (320M) more than twice more powerful than a GPU with 512 mb (8400GS) VRAM?
Because RAM is responsible for storage space and have very little to do with performance unless you play games that demand more.
>>
>>58497831
Usable in the very lose form of it. You still have to tweak 2141515 different privacy settings alone and that even ignores everything else like downloading some missing .NET Framework, maintenance software, drivers and whatever the fuck else. Also tons of MS bloat while no good out of the box Office suite, media player and so on.

Even most Linux distrus are more ready out of the box unless you have some rare hardware.
>>
>>58497741
Well, you didn't explain it to me, so you can't know much more than I do :^)
>>
>>58497832
And what does matter besides the MHz of the GPU?
>>
>>58498090
The enitre architecture of the chip, MHz doesn't tell you shit either, even amount of shaders doesn't. Transistor count tends to be a pretty solid indicator if you're purely looking at numbers, but again, not enough if you're adding other shit like cloaks.

None of those dongles are the correct ones for that macbook. The same could be accomplished by like 2 dongles. Still super shitty having to get an adapter to USB THEN use USB to ethernet.

I mainly use Mac because it has a Unix like workflow.

I use my computer to do:

>office work for my business (word and excel)
>music production (Ableton and commercial plugins)
>programming assignments for my bachelors [NetBeansâ„¢ -- thanks professor! ]

I used to really like Linux when I had more time though I miss the customization aspects quite a lot but really considering that Mac has a functional Bash terminal to run Unix shit with tons of better terminal clients available than the stock AND a high availability of stable commercial software.

I boot Windows for GAYMS but goddamn I just hate using Windows--- it FEELS like it was programmed by some poor Indian working for $1.84/hour and access to clean water. I don't know if this is actually the truth but damn is that some lazy interface programming.

look at the point where you buy a Macbook you probably already have bluetooth speakers and just want it as a more full featured alternative to an iPad

It's just not targeted for people who need portable workstations. If you really want that theres tons of ThinkPads that people have successfully installed MacOS Sierra on- if you really need all that power then you should be knowledgable enough to install mac on third party hardware in 2017 and if you can't you probably aren't authentically a power user.

Only ever had two things against Apple:

>way too expensive given the abysmal build quality

>removing features and claiming it's "for the future" and raising the price while doing it

Never in my life have I had experience with a more jewish company
>>

>>way too expensive given the abysmal build quality
is this a joke?

I've dropped my 11inch MBA from 6 feet without any hiccup while ACTIVELY playing a set from Ableton Live.

I've spilled coca cola on my keyboard and taken it to Apple and they've been able to clean it for like $45 and its good as new.

I got this laptop refurbished for like $650 and I am not nice to it at all. Going strong 2 years now no signs of stopping.

Meanwhile my Dad's HP netbook that he insisted on having over MBA because he's old and scared of change has been treated extremely well because my dad is 73 and keeps his electronics impeccable - SSD failed in 7 months and HP wouldnt do shit, had to drop another $90 on that shittop and LO AND FUCKING BEHOLD the memory started to fail in 10 months.
>>
>>58498666
I don't know what satanic ritual you performed to accomplish that but I repair these things and they're fucking abysmal and that's the only word I'll use for it.

>spill a little water on literally any laptop
>replace keyboard
>usually like $20

>spill a little water on macbook
>have to replace entire unibody, maybe the logic board
>even if it's just the unibody, you might as well get a new one
>somewhere around $400

>drop any laptop and break screen
>have to get screen replaced
>about $50

>drop macbook and break screen
>have to get screen replaced
>i shit you not to get them from apple i have to pay $120 for the shits

>any laptops hard drive fails
>just replace the hard drive
>$30 or a little more for an SSD

>apple (((flash storage))) fails
>have to replace the entire logic board
>these things are almost the price of the entire laptop

And don't even get me started on the trash cans.

Astonishing.

And the stuff about the operating system is all up for speculation, I've seen people who don't fucking touch it and it gets used every day, I've seen people mess around with homebrew, I've seen people with an OS X install that have managed to get different desktop environments onto it, crazy shit.

I don't use it because if i want *nix I use Linux and if i want millions of programs I use Windows.

What the fuck are you talking about?
Build quality is determined by how well the device is assembled, not just the outside. Also that Aluminum unibody shit is the number one cause of Apple consumers wallets going dry because you can't replace the keyboard or the screen without replacing the unibody piece around it. It's pretty disgusting.

I have a MBP 2013 and I like the convenience. I can count on things being left as they are when I close the lid.
I do have a Windows workstation for normal use, but the reliability of the MBP is pretty fucking nice. I've left the lid closed for a couple weeks at times, and when I return to it, programs are exactly where I left them.
The battery life is also pretty solid in terms of just web browsing, watching videos and using word, excel etc.

That said, apple's design choices have been pretty fucked recently. I don't think I'd buy the new MBP with the touch bar or the need for a fuck ton of adaptors.
