Do I get 4k monitor or ultrawide monitor? Mostly for programming or a bit of gaming.
>>
For programming you may want more pixels in the vertical dimension to see more lines of code, so 3840×2160 is probably better in that regard. But then if you can turn it sideways, 1080×2520 might be kind of cool.
>>
get a 4k, it's a safer bet

I would go for a 4k monitor.
Ultrawides are pretty awesome, but they are still not worth the money, because of their resolution, and refresh rate.
Therefore I think you should for now just buy a 4k monitor, and then buy a ultrawide once they have evolved enough.

Ultra wide is retarded in any case, and 4k is great.

Get a 4K monitor and use your old monitor as a second screen

>wider than ultrawide
>more screen real estate
>higher resolution
win-win-win

I have an ultrawide i use for almost everything.
It's really good when you have to work with an editor at 60% of the screen, and a document or ant other reference at the left. it's literally like having two screens only with no border.
Games that support it are really nice, and having the extra lateral field of view is also nice. Games that don't support it, well, black bars at the sides.
Also, watching movies on it make for a nice cinematic experience.

That being said, if you're looking for something oriented towards gaming, be it competitive or not, i'd advise for a higher refresh rate. Although 4K looks pretty nice, 4K monitors with higher refresh rates are still kinda expensive, while adding only a bigger resolution. You'll not miss any vertical space with a 34" UW monitor.

Hijacking thread so I don't have to make a new one

What would be an ideal monitor for the power of my computer, I have an i5 6500, 8gb rx 480, 16gb DDR4. Right now I'm at 1080p/60hz, 144hz doesn't really interest me for the games I play so I'm not considering that. I'm not sure if I should future proof and get a 1440p and have to turn settings down at the moment, or get a 2560x1080 ultrawide and have some more immersion but not a huge fps hit while gaming. I do like the idea of an ultrawide
>>
>>58484687
forgot to mention, if I get an lg ultrawide with freesync I could get it at 75hz which would be pretty nice
>>
I got a 28" Samsung 4K. Almost regret it because I can't max out games as I could on 2K. Then I realized that I don't really play games and 4K is worth it.

I'm getting the acer predator xb271hu tn version soon for 605eu.

I want it because of these reasons:
>G-sync <- because I get shitty fps on my current rig
>144hz <- for high speed action games
>1440p <- an upgrade from my previous 37" 1080p tv
>rotatable monitor <- so I can play shmups vertically
>usb hub <- for my keyboard and mouse because the wires are too short.
>to be used as a 2nd screen once I get a nice 50"4k tv for use on my pc.

Is this a good choice? I feel like it's the best bang for my buck I can get right now with all these features.

>>58484687
That lg ultrawide freesync one at 75hz is probably your best bet just make sure your games dont get cucked on ultrawide, but it's not like you can't go wrong with 1440p either.
>>
>>58487122
Using a large TV as your monitor is extremely stupid
