Love GNOME as such but one thing greatly annoys me: the lack of a proper taskbar.
Also, and maybe that is just me, sometimes some applications refuse to launch. Sometimes I can open them via terminal but not shortcuts, other times can't launch them at all. Something about a DBUS error if memory serves. Seems completely random when and which programs. Don't have that problem with other DEs so far.

Don't use the pulseaudio built in equalizer.

is the only working one for pulseaudio right now. Downside is that it resets pulseaudio volume to 100% at login.
If you want a hassle free experience, other than configuring it, then ditch pulseaudio and use plain alsaequal though dmix.
