I wouldn't call it a Node circlejerk. But it has gone to shit in recent years. Probably because they had to be cucked by more "sponsors" (MLH is a for profit company, after all).
I went to the first two Dubhacks events in Seattle. First one was fantastic with loads of topics to choose from and minimal sponsor advertising. Second one was full of sponsors shoving their services in your face and definitely felt a lot more corporate.
