I wanna get a lightweight laptop with 7+ hours of battery life, don't care that much for specs as long as it's tolerable for everyday tasks and has an SSD
Preferably a metallic build since I've had a bad experience with plastic laptops
Suggestions?

The Asus Zenbook UX305FA goes for £400 refurbished on eBay so I figure you could find one for about $500 too.
- 8GB RAM
- M.2 SSD
- FHD IPS panel
- Long battery life

you have to go back to plebit
I've had good experiences with my xenbook ux305. 6 hours battery life with constant light load ( alterning web browsing and text editing) more if you dont use it all the time. Metal chassis, nice specs.

Do you have the Core M or Core i version? If the former, would you say it's enough for web browsing with around 15 tabs open at a time or light web development?

Core m3. And yes i don't notice any sluggishness, except when on power saving mode. But even then it's very minor. Opening large programs (ide's and big editors) take a few seconds longer than on larger laptops, but it's nothing that matters (3-5 seconds on a program you open once per boot)
I just bought a used surface pro 3 for $350. Did I get ripped off?

6 hours' battery life on web browsing sounds good enough for me. I might buy one then if for some reason used/refurb T440S aren't the same price by the time I need to buy a laptop (soon).
