the staff are contractors whose job is to look at suspected child porn images and say they are or are not CP. it's not entirely clear to me whether the contractors got therapy and other psych support benefits as part of their job, but my impression is that contractors at MSFT are left out of most of the benefits you'd expect (which is the point). no. the only reason Microsoft was doing this in the first place was because another law requires companies to proactively report child porn. in a battle between hand-wringing over spying on users and reporting on child porn, any court will throw out the hand-wringing.

what's more likely (read: you should have inferred this immediately) is that microsoft will have to hire people under very, very clear terms. that they won't be allowed to reassign anyone to any work that a normal person might suffer emotional trauma from (i.e. just CP and maybe stuff related to gruesome murders or something). but they'll have to keep doing this job.

hell, even the people filing the lawsuit are asking for rotations, vacation, psych meetings, etc... rather than an outright end to the program.

The cp that gets posted on 4chan is pretty tame compared to deepweb stuff.
4chan usually just posts girls in sexy poses and selfshot videos.
That team gets to see a lot family abuse with fat fathers. And sometimes the young kids without any adult features being bound and tortured.

Of course you also have the occasional gore on 4chan, but unless it involves a video it often doesnt look like youre watching a real person. Gore with those Russians with the hammers and ISIS videos is more on par with the guys at MS get to see. And that takes a thick skin.

Its a lot less boner inducing. And a bit more disturbing. Although getting a PTSD from it says more about the person watching it.
