Image related, it's my current shitbox of a desktop system. Since the last DOTA2 Update fucked up my performance i dearly need a new graphiccard (i presume this is the solution -right?).
Can some kind anon name me a graphiccard which a) gives me a reasonable performance improvement with my system b) i can buy used from ebay for idk 50.- Euros c) works with my linux without problems?
i recherched the gfx-card-ranking websites but i failed to understand which card would fit best.
thx,
anon

Update your kernel first

I don't speak nazi

Mint 18.1 is out with probably 4.8 kernel. Use that first of all. Second Nvidia has a better track record with Linux than AMD in terms of drivers. But don't expect the latest GPU's to have drivers for Linux.
Check if GTX 1060 or 1070 has Linux drivers.

tried that by for reasons the desktop didnt started afterwards. had to reinstall from scratch and did only the updates. 18.1 wasnt out at that time. Mint updatemanager currently still says 3.19.0-32 is the recommended kernel (third column).

If you want to use Linux, pick a card from Nvidia that fits your budget. Then hope Mint has the Noveau drivers in the repos that will support it.

If you're talking about 7.00 they added a lot more cpu calculations. Gpu really wasn't affected and if it was turn off the fucking dynamic grass.

yes, since 7.0 (new UI...) my performance significantly dropped from steady ~45fps to even microstutters in a 5v5 situation. currently turned off almost all eyecandy and this sucks...
