It had a shitty previous version to launch from.

The only reason people hated Vista was because it forced them to upgrade from their Win2000/98 machines to run it. Win7 just relabeled the OS (and managed to be an even bigger resource hog) but everyone ate it up because "it's not Vista".

Download the ISO from Microsoft, burn it to DVD or USB and then once you have Windows 7 activated you run the Setup.exe from the root directory of your DVD or USB.
