Its kind of a pain in the ass to stream local content unless its on plex or something similar. Dont think you can stream games.

you can stream your whole desktop or a (chrome) tab from desktop, even with an addon you can directly stream movies you opened on internet, no support to stream local media directly, but vlc will bring chromecast support with 3.0

on android, you can stream local files, or your whole phone screen, i was using firefox+allcast to stream movies i found on internet

overall, desktop/tab casting is shit (i don't know what is problem, if it isn't supposed to work why it would be this popular?), and there is some fps problems i remember, just get yourself a long hdmi or buy a raspberry pi and make a media center

On Android, Localcast literally pulls every video from a site and lets you play them, so you can basically Chromecast anything. It'd be nice if there was a something for Windows that let you play streams

Or just get the new Fire TV stick and install Kodi as an app. Easy as piss, works just as well and you still maintain Netflix and shit, and has voice searching (except in Kodi unfortunately)

Dunno about this but I can vouch for Chromecast. Mines been pretty fantastic. Only problems I've had streaming non-commercial videos is that chromecast simply doesn't support some video formats. I imagine it's probably similar on other such devices.
To stream whatever video I have I downloaded Avia and payed for the pro version (like 2 or 3 bucks). I only ever streamed from my phone for convenience but it Probly works well with pc well enough too.

On android at least, I use my Chromecast a lot more than I expected since it will cast any html5 video in chrome. I also use mine to stream Kodi/exodus from my phone using localcast. Shit's comfy af

Why is it that my Nexus 7 and laptop can only stream like 900kbps or lower video to my chromecast smoothly, but my samsung S5 can stream 15mpbs smoothly?

If you have a shit wifi or crappy router then you'll have a bad time. Otherwise it works fine. Stream local media from chrome browser to chromecast with videostream addon
