The newer keyboard is objectively better, its mechanically identical and has a greater key surface area.

The reason people were pissed about the change is because of the layout, which isn't a real issue because you get used to it within hours.

Also max ram goes from 16gb in 2 slots to 8gb in one slot which is retarded in the literal sense of the word.

If you're going to break the barrier of x/t/w-30 devices, you may as well go all the way to the 5th or 6th Gen.

They're all good devices though, nice and reliable but I'm a huge fan of the overall design of the pre -40 series.

Bear in mind that
1. The increase in battery life comes at the expense of speed (17W vs 35W, single channel vs dual channel RAM, and one/two processor generations are not nearly enough to compensate).
2. You HAVE to replace the touchpad if you want to use the clitmouse, it's nearly unusable in its factory state.
3. Only a few high-end versions come with a 1080p display.

I can grab and carry my x230 by the wedge at top of the screen, which is useful when running around at work. Can the hinges on x240/250/260 handle the same? They seem flimsier.

I have an IPS X230 and I'm very happy with it. It has an i5 -3320M, I doubled the RAM and chucked in a cheap SSD and it really flies. I don't have the backlit keyboard but I could upgrade to it, though I find the ThinkLight does the same thing but better.

I have my touchpad disabled because it sucks dick. The TrackPoint is great though

Yes I know it's a meme, but if all I want to do on my laptop now is run chrome with like 80 browser tabs open, tell me what a cheaper option is. I can get an X230 and 8GB ram and an SSD for pretty cheap.

Everything newer is either really pricey or just has an Atom processor or some garbage. If the X230 was more expensive I'd contemplate an i5 Surface instead.

At work, everyone hates the T440/X240 mostly due to the trackpad being completely shit. I agree with them completely. It's a shame because the *40 has a better keyboard than the *60 series that we've got. The T450 and X250s we got would have been good if upper management decided that saving a few bucks grabbing HDDs instead of SSDs was a good idea.
