If I install Steam trough playonlinux programs will run in a windows vm but what about games that have native linux support?

I tried to, but they fail to start because there's no X session running and they fail. Apparently a way to solve it is to create an X target. But how would I create such a target that starts up with X? Create a target file and autostart it with my window manager (because that's the first thing that launches)?

From one shutdown to another, my icon theme simply stopped working. I tried switching on the tweak tool (only works from default to High Constrast and back) and even running from the terminal with the debug flag on there's no errors.

I also tried taking ownership of the /usr/share/icons directory, downloading a different icon theme, reinstalling, clearing the icon cache, changing it by gconf/dconf editor and resetting both gconf and dconf configs.

The only weird thing I noticed is that gconf says it can't change the icon theme value.

I'm running antergos with gnome3.

I'm using Arch with KDE and I somehow overwrote the original monochrome icons for the shutdown, reboot, etc. commands. How do I get rid of these colorful icons and restore the originals? Changing the icon theme to Breeze in system settings doesn't do anything.

I have a Thinkpad X100e and a friend told me to use puppy Linux. It doesn't seem to save my configurations every time I restart my laptop. It's installed on my HDD. I'm super new to Linux so I have no idea where to even begin.

Yes. I emailed him about trying to get a distro on my Lemote a couple weeks ago. He responded within 24 hours.

His response didn't help and it bothered me a bit. I had said in my email that I knew installing operating systems wasn't his specialty, but that perhaps someone in his usergroup could help. I basically wanted him to ask someone he knew that was an expert. Perhaps this was rude of me, but he essentially ignored it and told me he personally couldn't help.

Ok faggots, this thread needs some more autism anyway so here we go:

We just need mpd up and running. The server understands a lot of command - we just need a way to feed it.

Example a) controling mpd with nc/netcat:
[/code]printf 'pause\n' | nc localhost 6600[/code]
(or whatever port you're using)

To get a list of available commands:

printf 'commands\n' | nc localhost 6600

Example b) controlling mpd with pure bash:

exec 3<>/dev/tcp/localhost/6600; printf 'pause\nclose\n' 1>&3

Notes:
- nc automatically closes connections if not forced, so we need to send an additional close\n within the bash version (what it this "3" thing?: it's a file descriptor, fire up your favorite search engine)
- it's fine to send a command, but in order to be able to read a response (like from the `commands' command, we need to cat the result:

exec 3<>/dev/tcp/localhost/6600; printf 'commands\nclose\n' 1>&3; cat 0<&3

Great for suckless hotkeys or functions, there's even a player project somewhere on github completly based on the bash variant, can't find it now.

If I want a frugal install of tahrpup to write entirely to a ram stick do I just need to make a save folder?
I didn't have a lot of time to play around with it and saving opted me to partition the computer hard drive which is totally dwarfed by the usb sticks sized (god damn hardware is getting crazy I had no idea memory sticks were so bad ass). I'm kind of dumb but it seems like this should be an easy fix I just felt kind of rushed and couldn't find any mention of a usb drive on the system.

Any font with ligatures for tabulation and special char for newline (i.e. bottom-left arrow)?
I am coding in Python IDLE and copying code from editor or somewhere else to runtime is PITA as the prompt breaks some of the tabs and spaces. But this is not the only case, having ligatures for tabs (unless rendered as non-breakable spaces) is very neat.

Tumbleweed wants to do a big upgrade, and it just threw me a warning about how the nouveau graphics driver available to me is likely to mess things up on my system. However, when I type "no" in the "Do you agree?" prompt, it stops the entire update for everything else too.

Is it actually that much of a risk to use the nouveau driver? Or, if it is worth avoiding at this time, how to I go about update everything BUT that driver?
