Is gaymen aesthetic the worst thing to happen to computing?

Gaymers seems to like anything that's ugly as fuck and will pay more money for an gaudier design.

idunno, those front facets look like they're hiding fairly significant intakes along with the screening on either side of it. Also, if the chipset heatsink and IO cover on the board OP posted were black and the DIMMs weren't lit, the RGB would be great for letting you control color coordination with a custom water loop.

And there is such a thing as too far in the other direction, see >>58410433

>>
I don't care for the aesthetic but you can't argue that without the PC gaming industry that CPU/GPU power would increase as much as it has over the past 15-20 years.
>>
Do people actually give a fuck what internal components look like? You assemble your system and after that you don't ever see that shit unless you're replacing something or upgrading your PC. Why even give a fuck? Just buy whatever is best for your money.
>>
>>58411793
The manufacturer spent tons of money to design stupid trinkets to slap on the motherboard, and it cost $30 more just in material to slap that shit on there because of the fucking gaymers.

We are all paying $30+ more per motherboard because of the fucking gayemrs.

And no, anything above midrange has all these retarded shit slapped on there.
>>
>>58410171
>Is gaymen aesthetic the worst thing to happen to computing?
no, people that care about aesthetic in the first place are

i was fine with beige, i didn't bat an eye when every electronic device turned black, and now that my mice look like little tanks, i still don't give a shit
but someone did, someone thought pc was furniture

you reap what you sow, op
we could've just kept beige, but you thought pc should look like furniture
>>
>>58411835
>d it cost $30 more just in material to slap that shit on there because of the fucking gaymers.
a laptop's display costs about $5
you clearly have no idea what manufacturing costs on these things are, it is certainly not $30
i would be shocked if it was $3
>>
>>58411835
So the actual issue is that prices have increased since the previous generations? I haven't paid enough attention since I built my Haslel system to know about specific price points. Still, if the actual issue is overpriced hardware you should just say so instead of going
>omg muh leds and bits of plastic on this board which goes in a closed case
That's a pretty roundabout way of saying "this shit is overpriced"
>>
i wish beige was back in style so i could build a nice gaymen pc that didnt stand out
>>
>>58411835
>We are all paying $30+ more per motherboard because of the fucking gayemrs.
Well gaymers buy the vast majority of high-end consumer hardware, so without them the price would be even higher, as there would be no economy of scale to benefit from.
>>
>>58410171
Few people would actually buy them, if you can afford these motherboards, you can afford entry-level X99.
>>
>>58411931
But, why do gamers have to want the most ugly pieces of shit in the first place?

Why does liking computer game automatically translate to having the worst taste in industrial design?
>>
>>58411887

They still ask a premium for it. Just compare the price of RGB gaymer mice, or keyboards with the same basic features to normal ones.
>>
>>58410720

So you refuse to buy a premium product simply because of it's chosen directed marketing? You realize gigabyte makes their Ultra durable series right? It's typically a very standard looking setup with most if not all + some of the same features of gaymer boards. Asus rog boards look fairly tame as well.

>B-but it's even in the fucking name! Republic of GAYMERS!

>>
>>58411724
That's honestly the biggest issue with gamen aesthetics, is that all the high end parts are riced out. Why is there no non-rice option for the high end parts?

>>
>>58411724
All you have to do is buy a new stand for it, and considering most stands suck shit compared to a ergotron arm it wouldnt be that hard. I'm willing to bet the PREDATOR thing on the front bezel is removable too

>>58411835
>And no, anything above midrange has all these retarded shit slapped on there.
No, gamershit isnt high end. Go look at SuperMicro boards if you want something high end. They're green just like motherboards from the 90s were.
>>
>>58412839
At least it doesn't look as horrible as the gigabyte boards, am I rite?

Actually, tell you the truth, it looks good because for some reason the colour in presentation images is way brighter than it is in real life. It's actually a pretty dark red.
>>
>>58412909
To be honest, I kinda like the look without all of the fucking LEDs. Not necessarily that board in specific, but the I/O shield is a nice touch. That presentation image is on a white background flooded with several bright lights. Makes the black pop, and the red looks brighter by comparison.
>>
>>58412455
You're talking out of your ass. I even went to Gigabyte's website to find a board with 8 DDR4 slots + DP out from integrated GPU + Intel NIC + no gaymen shit. I even hoped to be wrong but I was right. There's not a single one. Next time you'll come to bash something at least have some actual arguments on hand. I'd love to be proven wrong.
>>
>>58412470
I'm jelly anon. Its a nice board. Did you populate all 8 RAM slots?
>>
>>58412997
Of course you cannot find one, since only X99 boards have 8 DDR4 slots and none have iGPU.

>b-but it's 500$
Skimp on the gpu or something, you'll buy a new one in 1 or 2 years even though you're saying that it can last for 6 years to your frie.. family.
A good cpu and mobo can last very long, and since cpu technology is supposedly going into a stalemate in this decennia (/g/'s words, not my) you might as well use that to your advantage.
>>
>>58412974
Yeah, LEDs are pretty much cancer these days. Starting to infect every single high end board. Fortunately there are still non-LED boards out there. I guess RGB is the new red.
>>
>>58412845
Can we extend that to the black versions of the beige 'aesthetic' as well? It's like jesusnchrist you fucking speds, if you didn't have such a goddamn complex about it that would go a long way. it really doesn't, frankly I'd even say we've passed peak rice, the 2 worst boards in this thread are Z87 chipsets from 2013, as silly as demo shots of RGB boards look, the user configurability of them means you can tone it down to your preference, whatever that might be, and even some of the more in your face Z97 or Z170 boards like my M9 are way subtler than those

>>58413056
The thing that's nice is you can always just turn them off. But considering manufacturers charge a pretty hefty premium for stupid shit like that, and often lock their top end products behind it does kind of suck.

You can just install the Qualcomm Athero AR8161 driver for that chip. Maybe not the vanilla one, but there is a version that turns the E2200 into an AR8161 straight from qualcomm. They no longer offer access to that driver due to contractual obligations, but I believe you can still get it.

Maybe the actual killer networking suite had an option of just installing the driver, I don't even remember clearly anymore. But point is, you don't need to use that as a Killer E2200. It works much better as a AR8161, because the E2200 driver suite is buggy as fuck. I originally had it disabled because of that.

if that didnt look like it was expensive as fuck that would be pretty cool

i could have the weather channel on there or porn

got the m5 with my rig and it looks great.
>>
>>58414200

I don't care how fucking useless it is, it's like sci fi come to life.
>>
>>58414200
Okay that's fucking cool
>>
>>58414200
pretty neato
>>
>>58414220
It only works because of the white case and the white lighting, and the white components.

You take an old LCD panel, remove the backlighting and backing and other coatings, then just attach it to a tempered glass side panel and hook it up to your GPU like a normal monitor.

Costs ~$250 when it gets released next month.

If you have a spare LCD panel sitting around that is the appropriate size you can do it yourself for under $100.
>>
>>58411724
I have this monitor, just got a vesa arm to replace the stand.

>>58412881
The Predator part isn't easily removable, at least not without ruining the bezel itself. If it bothers you so much just put some electrical tape over it.

>Date and time
>It's rainmeter for your case
>>
>>58410433
Are old cases like this compatable with modern hardware? I want to make a sleeper from my i5 750
>>
>>58414292
It's literally running rainmeter because windows treats it the same as a 2nd monitor.

This also means you can have it display literally anything you want though.
>>
>>58414316

Stuff made after 1995, yes.
Just don't count on anything resembling airflow or cable management.
>>

Wow, a Deus Ex case
>>
>>58413029
No I have the 1151 version, but you can see I did use all 4 RAM slots. The x99 version of the mobo is pretty amazing, 2 10gb Ethernet ports and it also has rgb PCi slots to fuck with you non-gaymen hahaha

Ooh, shiny blinky lights.

Kinda reminds me of those shoes that have leds that light up when you run.

why do you make threads like this every year?
yes its ugly no doubt but then again its a computer who cares?

Not him but I believe part of military grade circuitry is that they have to basically be encased in epoxy so they cannot be easily reverse engineered but also to aid against conductivity with other metal bits, and most importantly, weatherproof seal them.

t. person who has been on the internet too long.
>>
>>58410962
This so much.
>>
>>58410171
Yes, these gamer designs are annoying. RGB is nice but I don't like guns or edgy ROG designs. I would prefer a workstation board these days. Sleek, clean and elegant.
>>58411424
This is what I mean. The ROG boards look horrible nowadays. I have the X99/3.1 now, also a good choice.
>>58414002
Isn't that the variant with 64 lanes onboard?
>>

this retarded trend, I put it in case, put case on the floor behind desk and never open it again before dust cleaning
how autistic do you have to be to care about how hardware looks?

I have a z68 extreme3 gen3 and the only problem I had after all these years is the LAN port burning thanks to a thunderstorm. Pretty solid mobo.

It all started in the early days of personal computing, people who were knowledgeable and gutsy (as not to trash their expensive computer) enough put colored lights in their cases to make them more attractive, some made cool custom audio cards, some programmed their own TUI. It was all custom then, nobody sold cases with LEDs, or any hardware except the core components, the hobbyists made everything themselves. Everything was custom. It was still a time of exploration and experimentation. Computers were expensive and not accessible to everyone. Competing and Gaming were still considered 'nerdy' hobbies, and no normal girl would come near one.
Then suddenly came the time when computers were widely popularised which led to more people getting in computing and into gaming. When the newcomers saw the older computer users with riced out colorful cases they wanted the same. Of course they couldn't just make the amazing cases because they mostly lacked knowledge and motivation towards the field and were in general only for the games.
So the companies saw this as a great opportunity to make shekels and created these god awful components aimed towards children with no interest in computers but only in games and showing off how cool they are

I like my Asrock Z97 Extreme4. Kind of a stupid name, but it's not some crazy gaymer board like their fatality stuff.

Tangentially related, Fatal1ty is a really nice guy. I've met him a couple times throughout the years at Quakecon, and he was pretty great.

That's what I get for being a freelance faggot on a visa that likes videojames
>>
>>58410390
those actually had a purpose, you used a top down blowing cpu fan and it would force air through the heatsinks on your vrms so you could add voltage to your overclock. it's honestly pretty innovative for back then.
>>
>>58410171
>Is gaymen aesthetic the worst thing to happen to computing?
Yes, that and the toxic ((((GAMING)))) marketing and brandwhoring.
>>
>>58417872

Yeah, the Extreme series isn't too tacky while retaining most of the nice features.
I just bought a Z170 Extreme4.
>>
>>58419271
Not him but the VRM on the extreme is also extreme (bad pun intended) and allows for a nice OC.
>>
>>58419296
There are a lot of phases but each phase is just average-tier. Still pretty decent though

This is my motherboard, it's pretty edgy, bought it since it was on sale.

If they'd refrain from using names like "KRAIT GAMING 3X" I'd be good with this one. The white speed line-like shit is fucking retarded though.

not a single led on that serves a purpose its all fluff who would pay for this?

nothing amazing, but it works.
>>
the new motherboard trend i hate the most is the stupid purposeless plastic I/O shrouds thank god they can be removed
>>
I am personally glad there is such a range from components to choose from.

Imagine if all motherboards looked the same, same color same everything. That would suck.

There's ample variety to choose from so there's something for everyone. I'm glad manufactures don't confine themselves to one style and try something new pretty much every iteration. Don't like this years lineup? Wait a year and something new will come along. I really don't see the point of complaining about it, i can always buy a plain no-frills component if i'm put off by whatever is available.

It's just a name, why does it rustle your jimmies so much? What's the feeling that comes up for you?

As far as i'm concerned power phases is one thing i can't ever have enough of. The more power phases there are the cooler they tend to run.
>>
>>58410171
most you can turn the leds off and I can't see it with my case closed anyways. I do however wish there was more high end chipsets that were lower priced because they didn't have $50 worth of cosmetics on them.

I don't mind the computer parts much because you can just get a plain looking case.

I don't know why anyone would buy a gaming chair though
