Smart watch is just fucking retarded, especially Apple Watch.
Good thing I watch Youtube video review before buying any smart watch.

1. Watch face
I'm expecting at least 100+ different built in watch faces, but you only see 10 at most, and it's mixed between digital and analog watch face.

2. Up to 18 hours battery life
Yeah, with built in 334 mAh battery.
What a fucking joke.

3. Activity / Fitness tracker
I don't exercise

4. Notification
Unfortunately, the smart watch screen is so fucking small so you still need your phone to reply.

5. Display
It only turns on if you move your wrist to check the time.
This is a real turn off for me.
Well, with 334 mAh battery, what do you expect ?

6. Price
Price range starts from $400+.
With all those "features" above, only a retard will buy smart watch. Call me back when it has Gatebox feature.

tl;dr :
There's no single good reason to get smart watch.

Even at $900 it's a stretch. The only reason it costs so much because of the brand name. The brand is known for its technology. This is the brand without any of the technology.

That's why it costs half of any of their watches with their tech in them! Kind of unusual to see the hardcore tool watch brand being called overpriced, what can you get that's nicer for less money?
>>
>>58411482
$900 for a solid watch with a quality movement isn't too much to ask.
Seiko ask no more for a Shogun. With a worse movement than the 556 to boot. If I recall correctly the 556 totes a Top Grade 2824, so well within +/-5 seconds a day.
>>
>>58410837

Why bother buying a Sinn with an ETA 2824 and without a tegimented case, or dehumidifying technology?

I bought a Parnis about a year ago. You get what you pay for, so I would recommend saving up a bit more and buying a similar Seagull, which gets you guaranteed quality control.

Remember that Parnis is not a brand, it's just a name chink shit watch makers use.

I like mine, but I was lucky. If you get one anyway, keep in mind that you have to change the band since it's utter shit.

Let's see, it can impress technologically illiterate rich clients. It leads to friendly chats, builds good relationships, which will end up bringing in more money than what you used to buy the watch itself.

At least that's what my friend said to justify the purchase. I'm still not touching those pieces of shit myself.

From what I've gathered they come from the same malaysian plant, but if a Nip oversees the last phase of QC it can be called "made in japan". Not 100% sure it's true, but it certainly could be; made in japan is a lot more lax than swiss made.

Horry shet, I don't think I'll ever get to that point in collecting. I just don't like having too many things to take care of/store/secure. Nice shot though. I think I'd be a 5 watch max kinda guy. Just upgrading along the way. My old YM was 15 years old.

I'm sort of into hifi as well. So using funds towards that.

Do you use a winder or suggest using one? I really am lazy at setting the time and date. I had some Ebay one some years back and it died after about 7 years of use.

desu the smartwatch segment may just take off soon, but not by any of those you'd expect, that is Apple LG, Sony, Samsung and others.

Casio made some pretty good shit so far. The Edifice range ($200-400), basically "classier" G-Shocks, can link with smartphone so sync time, display notifications and make your phone ring to find it. Limited features, but you get a working watch working on solar. Citizen did something similar just recently, with the $600 Proximity.

Casio also made a $400 smart-Protrek, which has a classic monochrome LCD layered on top of a color one to save battery life in standby and still display the time; still pretty average battery life, but a huge step in the right direction.

Others merged watches and activity tracker, like TickTickmex with the $100-140 Metropolitan and 1 year battery life. Withings (recently bought by Nokia) makes similar ones, with 4 week battery and prices ranging from $90 to $300, adding heartbeat and sleep tracking on top (thus making the Timex a terrible deal).

Seiko hasn't tried anything since the CPC TR-006, but I'd expect them to give it another try, especially seeing their latest quartz ranges get bigger and bigger and pack tiny computers inside already, they're only missing bluetooth.

We can't expect Apple and co. to understand anything about wrist accessories compared with companies that have been in the business for decades, and it shows. The only shitty aspect of smartwatches that remains is they quickly become "outdated", and it's going to take some time before feature sets get some more stability, but at least activity trackers are here to stay and won't evolve much.

Both those two are vintage Omega, nothing extremely fancy. First one is a Seamaster 176.005 otherwise known as the "faux Jedi" due to being mistaken for one of the four models Chuck Maddox nicknamed, during a Christie's -I think- auction. See pic related.
(Although hands are not original in pic related)
Mine in in absolut perfect condition, just like when it left the factory.

Second is a Omega Geneve with fumé green dial (think Moser fumé, lighter at the center, darker at the edges), in TV shape. Sadly, I can't remeber the exact reference for my fucking life.
Extremly fun to wear.

I own one, a second gen with maltese cross shapen links.
The watch does wear a bit on the big size, mainly due to the incorporated end-links of the bracelet, but the real issue is the weight, as it has an iron inner case that protects it from magnetic fields but makes it quite heavy.
And at 42mm it is a big watch to wear.

Anyone have opinions one Beijing Beihai watches? Anyone own one. I've been looking at a few but I'm not sure how reliable different sellers are. Apparently one guy on WUS was getting within +-2/day which is fairly promising.

Lawyer owns a Celadon, it's practically the same thing.
Same case, crown, hands, movement, almost same dial.

Bought a watch recently and the strap was made of horse leather.

I no longer want to use anything lesser than Cordova.

Celadon makes differently designed watches now. Their newer designs look kind of like what you would see on fine China (porcelain dishware) to me. I understand that they are classically inspired and they look nice, but I'm not sure it would be suited to my wrist.

Here is another Beihai that looks a bit different from the Celadon Imperial.

I'm not as sure about purchasing compared to Celadon. Whereas the Celadon watches have a specific route to purchasing, these are places like eBay and good-stuffs.
>>
>>58419470
I already own an Omega Speedmaster, but I wanted one of these to wear as a daily since I adore the design.

Too bad about the size.
>>
>>58424218
>Celadon makes differently designed watches now.
Yes, I know. They make lots of different watches with micro-stitching, enamel paintings and so on, and they are 'soon' going to release a diver which is heavily inspired by the Royal Oak.

That's a good point, Omega did ruin the perfectly good ETA 2892-A2 enough that the 8500 should be considered in-house, much to its detriment, I wasn't considering non MOTFM speedmasters because they are all shit and have been since the demise of the Lemania 5100.

On the other hand the MOTFM is most certainly not an in-house movement, as adding decoration to an already existing Lemania design does not make it in-house.

What's a good everyday watch to acquire that is comfortable and below $50? I'd prefer quartz as it's less of a hassle. Currently wear Casio w59 because it's so comfy. I bought a Timex expedition with NATO strap but I think either I don't have a comfortable strap or the watch is too large for my wrist.
Mainly just want to know whether digital watches are fine or whether analogue is better in terms of style. I wear these to a semi-casual work environment.

Now, I don't mean I want an automaton on my watch, since I understand how difficult those are to make or an impossibly fine "email grand feu hand painted dial", but would simply love an erotic image depicted on the dial.

I guess most of you have seen the Speedy Tuesday version wherein Omega is making ADs uncomfortable.

It is not much more than yet another dress up of an existing overall design. What I wonder, though, is why they never lume the hands on the small dials or the number surrounding the sub dials.

One watch shown earlier (not Omega) in here had a lumed crown, that too is missing here. Omega could have done so much more here. But ended up not.

Ah, so it wasn't designed or manufactured by Omega then?

Thank you for agreeing with me that the Lemania 1873 was certainly NOT an in-house Omega movement.
>>
>>58428474
Depends how you define in-house.
>>
>>58428493

The standard horological definition of "in house", as you well know, treats only movements designed and manufactured by that specific company for use in their own watches as being "in house."

The Omega 56x is an example of an in house Omega movement. The Lemania 1873 would only be an in house movement in a watch designed, manufactured and assembled by Lemania themselves.

Saying that the Lemania 1873 is in-house to Omega because they had the same parent is like saying you get to call yourself married because your brother had a wife.
