Transsexuals aren't suddenly not suffering from mental illness just because we entered an arbitrarily higher-numbered year.

I have no problem with gay people, but I do think however that people who feel like women trapped in a man's body are suffering from mental illness.

During development, your bod released hormones which affect how your physical features as well as your brain develop. Therefore in a healthy human one will feel like the sex they are. In a transsexual's mind something went wrong in the mental bit to make them feel different.

The normalization of this condition doesn't help. I mean, what if we said it is normal to feel like you're several different people at once? Then one person could have two, or three, or four passports, marry several different people...

Post screenfetch

>This makes more sense, but again i need to find some better instruction on actually installing i3 and using the damn thing. Every time i'd get it to boot i'd be at a black screen.

Here's a reasonably in-depth guide for less experienced users.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1I63wGcvU4

You shouldn't be presented with a black screen. You should be presented with a login screen asking for a login name and a password

Once you've logged in you should make sure you have I3 in your xinitrc file.
To do that type
cat ~/.xinitrc

If the file doesn't exist or is empty then:
nano ~/.xinitrc
exec i3
ctrl+x
y
>>
>>58407643
gonna look right now. Do i keep gnome? I presume the video will tell me. I'll give it a shot
>>
>>58407751
You can keep gnome if you like.
Just comment out the exec i3 you add to .xinitrc and add exec gnome (I think)
>>
>>58407643
Should've explained it better. i get the login screen, i'd type my password and before hitting login, i'd click the gear and switch the DE to i3. if that makes sense
>>
>>58407763
Oh I see.
When I say login screen I mean a terminal login screen.
Not the gnome one.
You don't need to mess with your .xinitrc if you're using the gnome login to switch to I3

I3 should have presented you with a basic config message
>>
>>58407858
Yeah i got that right now and i'm in i3, YAY. But its just dull. Want to add i3-gaps and make it look sweet. Should i still edit /.xinitrc?
>>
>>58407899
Nah you don't need to if you're switching using the login manager.
>>
>>58407906
Only thing i'm having an issue with is getting dmenu to open. Can't get it to do anything with Mod + D, should i open a terminal and try installing that dependancy?

Yeah, I installed 3 times yesterday and just stopped at gnome because i was frustrated.
>>
>>58408114
Gnome is really bad in all honesty it's so bloated. I3 is the way to go, it looks beautiful and is really quite efficient in terms of workflow and navigation when you set it up right.

What is so special about i3? You can tile Windows in any DE.
>>
>>58408183
I enjoy the look.
>>
>>58408208
alright fair enough.
>>
>>58408170
Do i need to exec i3 in /.xinitrc after uninstalling?
>>
>>58408183
It's the fact that it's lightweight, not full of bloat, incredibly customisable, and optimises window space. You don't have those stupid fucking bars just for the close, minimuse, and maximise buttons which is also a plus.

>>58408228
I believe so.
Reboot after uninstalling and if you are presented with a command line login then yes.
>>
>>58408238
but i3 still has a title bar for each window with empty space. so what if there are min/max/close buttons. they are not taking additional space.

Xubuntu you can make windows completely headless.
>>
>>58408266
You can remove it by changing the border style
>>
>>58408238
Can't exec i3 now. Won't start
>>
>>58408355

>>
>>58408451

>>
>>58408464
Technically you can use i3 within a DE as the window manager. It is not really dependent on any other components like xorg or is it?
>>
>>58408485
You can but it's fucking horrible
>>
>>58408491
i find lxqt to be very compatible with i3
>>
>>58408587
Probably but why would you want to? I3 standalone provides all of the functionality you need. Why slow things down by just using it as a window manager within a desktop environment?
>>
>>58408432
So if i install i3 instead of gnome while i'm doing this from scratch, it should just work right? Or will i need to modify /.xinitrc anyway
>>
>>58408608
I agree with you completely. I use lxqt + i3 on my laptop because it provides an lightweight and quite nice looking UI with brightness settings and everything just working out of the box.

On my desktop i just roll i3

>inb4 just write a script and put in your conf

I know, but im lazy
>>
>>58399825
>doesn't know that's where the saying double time comes from
>>
>>58408643
You might need to create a .xinitrc file but it's literally as simple as making the file in your home folder and adding nothing but the line exec i3

>>58408655
Ah so it's more for ease of setup as opposed to pure efficiency? I guess I can understand that. I might give it a go at some point.
>>
>>58408684
Exactly. On my desktop i prefer the bare minimum because i also use it for PCI passthrough.

PCI passthrough was actually the reason i installed lxqt in the first place. I had an issue with the sound in my vm's and i thought was because of the lack of a session manager. Turns out I just needed pulseaudio-alsa
>>
Who the FUCK uses Arch and not tiling window manager. God damn it pisses me off.

>>58408776

It allows you to "pass through" a NIC or GPU to a virtual machine, which means you can run multiple OS at the same time with near native performance.
>>
>>58408839
Oh that's useful actually.
So that means I'd be able to create a Windows VM in my arch installation to play videogames on and it would suffer a minimal performance impact?

What about CPU? Surely that would still be a limiting factor?
>>
>>58408839
>>58408874
Just finished reading it.
I can't use it on my desktop I've a 4690k ;-;
>>
>>58408874
It's extremely useful and without a doubt a very fun project to try out. Im settled with it completely and will never have to dualboot again.

Your CPU must support VT-D and you find that out very easily on the intel ark ( i dont know shit about AMD but i know it's possible with some of those as well)

You have to dedicate a monitor to the virtual machine

i just use my 6700K's 530 gfx as daily driver.
>>
>>58408913
Welp, it's definitely worth upgrading for
>>
>>58408925

No you don't, you just have to swap the input. There are many ways to do this, maybe your (windows?) VM's GPU is connected to it by DP not DVI, swap input to DP after it's started. Or maybe you only have one DVI port but want to use it on both cards, get a KVM switch and split the cable then swap it back and forth.

I recommend using using urxvt instead of xterm. (sudo pacman -S rxvt-unicode )

You can set the colours using an xdefaults file.

Here's an incredibly useful site for finding nice colours for terminals, I3, etc:
http://dotshare.it/

Check out http://dotshare.it/category/terms/colors/ for terminal colours. Most of them will have defaults for both xterm AND urxvt

It's a cycle. People on here start using unpopular distros to be edgy, but then those distros become normal, so they move somewhere else to be edgy again, and then said distros become unpopular again, repeat.

Literally everything you need to know is on the arch wiki. If you don't understand a term literally just search 'arch [term]' and it'll give you what you need the majority of the time.

Here's how to set terminal colours:

Looks good so far dude.
If you want to get rid of the title bars over windows change the border style in your I3 config to:
new_window pixel 0

(you may have to replace a previous new_window value)

I also suggest you add these lines to your config:
hide_edge_borders
workspace_layout

then reload your I3 with mod+shift+r

Some config settings are only available in forks and anon may have forgotten about it. Though I don't think it's the case for those.

I suggest installing i3-gaps(-next) whether or not you use the gaps (I don't) because it adds some other shit too.
>>
>>58414934
>>58414958
It would seem I actually forgot something in my previous suggestion. It should be:
hide_edge_border both
workspace_layout tabbed

Both of those are available in the base version.

If it doesn't work then it's likely that both lines are present elsewhere in the config though.
Look for the lines
>>
f i install gaps, will that wipe out all my current settings?
>>
>>58414992
and I typo'd again it is late sorry:
hide_edge_borders both
workspace_layout tabbed

(the latter of those lines will default the workspace so that windows are tabbed as opposed to tiled by default.

No it won't. It functions exactly the same as I3 and uses the same files so if it detects an existing config it won't overwrite it
