how long until this takes overtakes java

Probably never, honestly.
I'm pretty sure Java has -- by far -- the greatest range of supported platforms of any language out there. It's used on embedded systems all the way up to web servers and desktop applications.
I laughed when I first heard that was the plan for Java. But damned if they didn't manage it. It still boggles my mind that we live in an age where Java is suitable for embedded software.

Never since C# doesn't work on fucking anything.

I wrote a web scraper in C# using mono on my 2006 Macbook while sitting on the toilet taking a dump. That was actually one of the more interesting experiences in my programming life.
I dunno what the state of affairs is, but it sure looked like it was going to be possible to run C# servers on Linux boxes. That's an interesting idea. Personally, I'd care more about desktop UI programs in C# on Linux.
>>58393754
hasn't it already?
>>58393935
see dotnet core. it's getting there
>>58393754
It won't.
Too many huge systems are already written on java and it would take way too much effort to rewrite them to .net
On the other hand,
This year .net core was released which, I believe, will be the primary choice for portable OOP language for web dev and some sort of task workers/servers. For desktop apps we will have to wait, yet I think we will move to clouds thus declining the need for desktop apps.

What? Are you stupid? How on earth do you think it supports more platforms than C?

Once you successfully never come back to 4chan.

this

Web anything is trivial and far from interesting. Cross platform UI stuff is something not supported by .Net and there is no big hope for a binding to Qt, as in the moment it's a single man effort.

.net core can't even get embedding the runtime right, compared to the JVM
>>58394204
actually, nvm
>>58393754
it's never going to.
