Any recommendations?

Gonna order one of these wrist rests
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0191YRK6M/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1DYE0JBXZTW6W

Even though I don't feel much discomfort now, I would like to preserve my wrists.
Would appreciate some advice so I can order whatever I may need!

Tomorrow I am going to be working on my room & setup, making some serious changes. Some time in the next week or two I am making an updated picture.
>>
>>58383937
Another one of those lamps on the left side of the monitors. Also Phillips Hue color bulbs for extra points. Beyond that its a bit hard to see things in the photos
>>
>>58384036
I would get another lamp for the left side but I sadly have no space there. Also no way in fucking hell I am gonna spend $50 for one light bulb!

Also what's hard to see? There is nothing else to it.
>>
>>58384059
If you scoot the PC and lamp all the way to the edge, and curve the PC in a bit more, then you could fit one in. Alternatively, you can get a small shelf above the monitors and oput the 2 up there to illuminate everything better.
the bulbs are actually fun as fuck. i got 4 of them on black friday and i dont regret it. great for photography scenes and lonely disco parties, or just to set the mood.

It might've been my monitor. Got a TN panel so its hard to see. ignore the brightness thing, but definitely consider another lamp
>>
>>58384125
curve the monitors**
>>
>>58384125
I have my router all the way on the left hidden to left of the PC, so I can't really do that.
Also I am moving my TV elsewhere, and getting some nice framed posters so I wouldn't be able to put a shelf up there.
I don't think it's meant to be anon.
>>
>>58384183
PC on floor instead of table?
>>
>>58384201
I have tried that before and didn't like it at all. The PC runs hotter, makes cables much more of a mess, and gets in the ways of my legs. Generally not worth it in my case, especially just to add another lamp.
>>
>>58384220
DO you commonly use the USB ports on the front? if not then consider sticking it behind the monitors. Your desk looks big enough to do that
>>
>>58384252
There is not much space between the back of the monitors and the walls, I wouldn't be able to fit the PC. Then I would also have to put my router back there.
Not worth it senpai.
>>
>>58384293
fair enough. Dim lit battlestation areas just bug me. i've lost so many little screws due to that so now i make sure my areas always lit up, also dimmable lights help as well

Then my last recommendation is a USB hub between the monitors, or under the desk. gotta have the easy access desu

This looks better than the OP picture, even though I kinda like the color, it's too exaggerated. If you hang some stuff on the walls and organize the underside of the desk a bit more, it can look much better. I like the desk area quite a bit.

Goodnight /bst/
>>
>>58384568
Im moving soon so i'll buy posters and pictures at that point. Cabling ill deal with when i move as well.
Color was a bit much, i can tone down the saturation on my lightbulbs a bit next time
>>
>>58384559
I would, but the Dell doesn't have the vesa holes so it has to be on the desk. That's what I get for buying a cheap Dell, oh well it was only $70 will probably get a new one later.
>>
>>58384317

I take it so you can switch between sitting and standing? Otherwise, the adjustable height stuff I've never seen much appeal. If I want to sit I'd just grab a stool.

Honestly, fi you like the industrial-grunge look, the shelves are the last upgrade you'll make. They're so cheap and versatile. Can fit any height you need. And you can position them so that you can insert your legs while sitting on a stool, too.

basically for everything except for watching videos. i don't play games, but i imagine i'd not want to bother playing games like this either.

the monitor on the left is (sort of) showing sublime text, so i get ~150 rows of text there, and ~190 columns across in the layout pictured (i could put two windows side by side and get 80 columns each, which is good for coding styles, but it's all wrong for latex in my opinion).

the other monitor typically shows the pdf. so i'll write in the tex file, compile, and reload the pdf. usually the editor is closer to my keyboard with the output file more on the periphery. i think i was just swapping things around when i stopped to take a break.
>>
>>58389120
yeah, adjustable height is good for switching. but i've found it's nice for micro-adjustments as well. i realize it indicates i need to think more carefully about the geometry of the chair/desk, my posture, etc... but sometimes if i'm slouched a bit, i just want the desk to be a bit lower. it's absolute hubris to say that i should get an adjustable height desk just so i can make the desk an inch lower once in a while, but having the adjustable height desk for proper switches between sitting and standing opens the door to making more fine-grained adjustments more often.

otherwise, with conventional desks, the micro-adjustment process is incredibly onerous. like you have to crawl under the desk and usually mess with the screws under the legs of the desk or something. and they have to be raised and lowered evenly or the desk will be a bit wobbly. it's all enough of a pain in the ass that i just wouldn't bother unless it was either way off or i had settled into a single posture that was always wrong for that height.

I've been thinking about getting a 21 inch monitor to put int hat empty space off to my right. Something to keep youtube and other things going while I work. Probably vertical mount just like that.
>>
>>58389260
I feel you. With standing desks, though, I find just having a blanket or something to stand on is fine. Pile it up with your feet, kick it away, usually gives you between 1-2 inches of adjustment.

what size monitor is that? 24"?

i mean it's obvious from the earlier picture that i'm way into the whole portrait orientation thing, so take my suggestion with a grain of salt, but consider making the bigger monitor your portrait orientation monitor, and leaving that secondary/smaller monitor to be your landscape one. that smaller one would still be your "primary" monitor as far as the OS is concerned, but you'll probably find that you're doing most things on the portrait orientation monitor (maybe playing youtube and stuff on the smaller one).

i mean, it depends on what you do. i realized a while back that aside from netflix and some other stuff i really don't use my computer for much more than reading and writing in some capacity or another. since text flows vertically rather than horizontally longer monitors make a lot more sense than wider monitors if you're *just* reading and writing, which is essentially mostly what i do, i've found.

another thing to consider is to get a good monitor arm that allows you to swing the monitor from portrait to landscape without too much fuss. that'll at least make the decision to go back and forth not too costly for you (if it takes 5 minutes to change orientation, then you'll probably stick to whatever orientation you have until you absolutely have to switch).
>>
>>58389488
It's actually a 32" Samsung UN32J TV. I prefer TVs over monitors because they tend to sit lower and have better viewing angles.

The keyboard and mouse are quite a bit bigger than people assume from pictures, since their both mobile/wireless centric.

Most of my work is done in landscape, aside from spreadsheets, where I have the choice, but still move horizontally to do my work rather than vertically, usually. So the smaller screen being the portrait one would be preferable. Especailly for, say, reading.

oh do you mean with a strict standing desk? yeah that's true. and they even recommend a slightly softer mat or something to stand on, so the blanket is probably a good choice for several reasons. for me it really just comes back to the little adjustments i make throughout the day and across days. some days i'm standing tall. some days i'm slouching in my chair. i think capturing all the weird idiosyncrasies of my posture without an adjustable desk would just be annoying.

but the more i think about it, i have to admit the more difficult it would be to justify paying for a motorized desk. pic related is great to have, but it's not super clear that it'd be worth paying out of pocket.

then again, i try to live by a maxim where i evaluate something's value with particular attention to how big a "contact point" that thing is in my life. so i barely ever drive, so having a particularly luxurious car would be a waste of an investment. but if i had a long commute every day, it would make more sense to have a nice interior and experience driving. the application of that logic here is that if i worked from home or otherwise spent most of my waking hours at my desk at home, then even $1000 for a desk i'll use for 5 years is kind of splashing out, but not completely insane. and my guess is that a good adjustable desk would cost less and probably last longer, so a lower price would spread out over a longer time.
>>
>>58389568
you're seeing a pretty exaggerated effect from the monitor because of
- the wide angle lens catching it at the corner, and
- my use of the wall as the white balance reference point

but yeah it's not very color accurate. but this was the first generation rMBP, with all sorts of issues with the display. i think if i used this for lots of lightroom stuff i would be pretty annoyed, but as we've established most of my work is text-based with only recreational video consumption on the side.

>>58389569
>>58389585
>>58389534
oh wow i don't know how i misjudged it by so much. maybe 32" would be too big for portrait orientation then.

as for work styles, to each his own. the monitor arm hanging from the top desk sounds like a cool idea. i considered that in my undergrad when the desk i got back then had an overhead thing, but the space just didn't work for it. i forgot precisely what made it not work, but it would be cool to see it work for real.

>>58389702
Yeah, I feel like it would look pretty cool. Give me that whole "Surrounded by my workstation" effect, with a microphone off to the right, monitor front and left, and I plan to get a DSLR to hang up above the monitor because why not. May as well make a backdrop and facecam politics on youtube.

>>58389758
Accidental greentext
>>
>>58389758
yeah i'm a completely different kind of consumer. i obsess about the thing i'm planning to get. i don't ever want to have to buy something a second time because the first one was junk. or more accurately, i want to minimize the number of times something will fail on me at a bad time. so i'm *highly* resistant to switching hardware often.

sounds cool. i had heard that one issue with mounting a DSLR to a shelf on a desk was that you'll see wobble transmit to the end of that mount a lot more than you'd think. i forgot how some DIY person dealt with it, but i think it had to do with a stabilizer of some sort. anyway, something to watch out for.
>>
>>58389841
I shouldn't have used the word hardware. Screens, audio equipment, and whatnot, I do the same thing. It's desks in particular that I go through a lot of. Only reason I switched away from this style of standing desk was moving into a tiny shared apartment for college and not having a place for it. When I do use a standing desk, however, it slows down quite a lot.
>>
>>58389841
>>58389884
Did image stabilisation not help with the DSLR? Most of them will almost completely eliminate most wobbles with a wide angle lens and a settings change.
>>
>>58389884
hmmm, i see. that's interesting. i definitely apply this obsession to everything. if university housing hadn't furnished my apartment i would've spent at least 100 hours looking up mattress reviews and stuff. i would become an expert in the materials that are used to make mattresses, the pros and cons of each in various types of climates and seasons, etc...

the same is true of the desks. i got to pick the desks for our lab and i spent at least 40 or 50 hours researching adjustable height desks, reading every comparative review i could find, weighing the pros and cons of every feature offered, etc; and it's not even my money. i just can't stand the thought of getting that desk and then discovering later that i had overlooked something important to me because i was negligent. so that drives me to be really obsessive about the details.

>>58389910
that might've been it, but i thought the thing i read about was something to stabilize the mount itself. i honestly can't even fathom the stabilization device they would have used though, so maybe it was lens/body IS.

the issue was essentially that the arms holding the upper shelf up might be strong, but will flex a bit, and that's not great for videography. but i think if you're talking about recording yourself you should actually be fine. just as long as you're not kicking the desk or anything.

the issue i remember coming up was that they had this overhead camera to record themselves working on the table, which meant lots of interaction with the table and thus shaking it slightly at the table, which would radiate up the arms at the corners and make the upper level wobble. but again that only applies if you're recording stuff while you're working at the desk, and would only be as bad as the force you're putting on the desk (and the direction and stuff)

I tried the single vertical and one horizontal monitor thing with Dell u2515hs. I didn't make it past an hour.

Maybe it's because they're so tall but even though I used them exclusively for Twitter Tumblr and 4chan I just would have much preferred having it horizontal with two threads window snapped on both sides. I really enjoyed the desk talk estate I got with that too.

To each his own however.

New thread needed?
>>
>>58413539
I have a sapphire 8gb rx 480. The left is 1920x1080 and the right is 1280x1024. I'm mostly doing it because I'm deciding between a 2560x1080 ultrawide or 1440p. The total number of pixels with my 2 monitors is closer to the ultrawide and framerates are dropping to around 30 (everything maxed out in wd2) so I'm thinking the 480 would struggle with 1440p without turning down settings quite a bit
>>
>>58413709
Still not over the bump limit. Mods have been deleting extra threads lately unless the old one can't be bumped anymore.
>>
>>58413753
:9 ok
>>
>>58413752
Have you overclocked it at all?
I hear those are overvolted for what they are and the cooler is ineffecient? I'm not honestly sure, but thats what I hear all over when I was doing research on one.

I had a sapphire nitro+ rx 480 4gb for a day when I thought my second 270x had died (turns out it was a bent pin on my motherboard messing with pci)

I'm behind the GTR 480 because I think the chips are cherry picked, which would let me overclock quite a bit in the future if need be.

Admittedly I don't play much AAA stuff. I mainly play phantasy star online 2 and overwatch occasionally.

I haven't really overclocked it much. I've heard the 480 gtr is good as well, but I think the sapphire cooling problems are overblown. The hottest mine has ever gotten under full load is 73c and that was with <50% fan speed, it's usually mid 60s while gaming
