So /g/, should I wait for the 1080 ti or just go ahead and buy a 1080?
I'm currently using an AMD 280x.
Also have a 2500k cpu, would it be smarter to upgrade cpu over gpu???

I would wait for AV1 hardware decoding before buying a new GPU (should be late 2017 or so)
JUST
WAIT
1. No. Consider waiting for VEGA though since it'll send prices down.
2. No, CPUs are not getting better. AMD's are, but only because bulldozer is so fucking far behind

If you're bottlenecking cuz of CPU then there is nothing you can do other than buy an Intel/Zen 8threat or 8 core CPU. Single threaded performance is done, it won't get any better. You either wait till devs pull their shit together and start optimizing games/using dx12/Vulkan to decrease CPU utilization or buy a $300+ CPU. From now on till the end of time those are your only two options. Dunno what you need that 1080 for. I hope you have at least a 4k monitor.

Just build a new system. If you want to buy a 1080, you probably already have the money.
I'm waiting for a GPU that supports hdmi 2.1, and also can drive UHD @ 120hz.
And waiting for a OLED/QLED UHD 32" HDR HDMI 2.1 Adaptive Sync Monitor.
Anything less is a waste of money as these are probably around the corner.

The upgrade from the 2500K to the 6700K is huge. Better yet, just get a 7700K with one of them new Z270 motherboards.
Wait to purchase the 1080 Ti after Vega comes out since Vega will be trash but force NVIDIA to lower prices on the 1080 Ti.
