no it's not. Intel should be selling 6 cores for these prices by now, but with 0 price drops they are still selling chips that are only marginally faster than 2011 ones.

Kaby is a huge upgrade. 7600k at 5ghz will be significantly faster. My i3 6100 was bottleneck in my 1060 so hard. The 7600k will even be a huge upgrade from say a i5 6500, the frequency is just so much higher. That said I'm st excited for the 6 and 8 core skylake chips, going to be awesome.

No reason to upgrade until cannonlake arrives

If you want to upgrade your 2500k, get a Skylake (6700k would be best) now, because that's going to be your last chance to keep Windows 7, and only a moron would run Windows 10. The improvement in processors these days is so poor that it will be at LEAST another 5 years before Skylake is obsolete. Hell, even the 2500k will probably still be a decent processor in another 5 years at the rate we're going. Let's be real here, the 2500k is going to outlive the board you put it in, it's that fucking good.

Once the 7700k and 6700k are equally clocked, their performance difference is within the margin of error, neither is better than the other.

My 1155 motherboard burned out on me, and second hand 1155 boards were as much or more than new ones. I fucking hated having to do it, but I "upgraded" to 1151 at the worst possible time to do it because I had to. Now I've got a 6600K. I OC'd dozens of those things for customers and friends to 4.5ghz by turning up the fucking multiplier and slapping on an air coole. Every now and then did I have to mess with some other power settings (mostly turning things off auto and disabling green features), but never did I even have to tweak voltages.
