is the price of the luxottica glasses justified or is it just because it has a monopoly? I own a pair of gay bands myself and they're pretty nice, but i feel like i pay more for the name than the product and there isn't much comparable that ik of
>>
>>58364670
Quality wise they are much better than none Luxottica made frames. Price wise, they shouldn't cost more than $50.

Every year we have a one sight donation sale. I bought a pair of $465 Prada for my GF for $40.

My pair on the picture retail for around $200 and I got them for $20. They were selling Oakley ski goggles for $20

Ok so you pretty much own all glasses in the world. What do you think about the /csg/ chink knock offs of say ray bans? Are they the same?

As I was saying above. The knockoffs aren't as good of quality but our glasses Ray-Bans Vogue Oakley anything that we make isn't worth the price

Always makes me wonder why they ever agreed to this interview. I mean, they got exposed.
>>
>>58365229
Who makes the lenses then? I bought bootleg oakleys and replaced the lenses. Haven't had any issues.
>>
>>58365253
>replace the lenses

Why? There's literally zero difference between the lenses. That's the one part of the eyeglass that's practically equal for cheap and expensive frames.

Esp. for sunglasses. More expensive != better protection. The coating is very cheap. It's just a question of whether or not the lenses have them. On the average, sunglasses that claim to have UV protection do have them but there are some expensive glasses that don't.

So how many frames have you guys gone through?

>first pair was in 4th grade, broke the arm
>bought a new one that didn't have those springs in the arms, lost it
>bought new ones that were half frames and really thin, broke them
>blue one that arm also broke that I bought in college

Have two pairs right now. One is a really good solid metal frame that's probably from Luxottica with Guess branding. Bought it the same time as the blue one above. I had the blue one's glasses fitted on another shit frame that's small as fuck which makes me crane my head over all the time. Really want it to be replaced.

These two have lasted me the longest time now, probably ~5 years.

seconding request on when and where sale is.
googling got me to 'onesight', a charity that luxottica partakes in.

a onesight website redirects you to http://www.glasses.com/shop-all-eyewear
saying if you buy one, they donate a pair. However prices are regular and there's no mention of future sales.

it is only a sale in physical stores? If so, where? and around what time of the year?
also please doublecheck your posts, there's consistent autocorrect in your typing.

>>58370857
OP its full of shit. He tried posting this on /fa/ a week ago and he quickly deleted the thread after prople called him out about the sale and else.

It's at the corporate office once a year in the fall time. It's open to only employees on Friday and then it's opened to the public on Saturday and Sunday. The corporate office is in Mason, Ohio. 4000 Luxottica place to be specific. There are normally upper limits on pair you can buy, was 20 last year

Bought a new pair today. Figured out that half-rim, geometric is the best frame for my face.

Feels good man. Considering picking up tinted ones as sunglasses. Always makes me wonder why people stick to limited sunglass frames rather than picking out from a much greater selection of eyeglass frames and just getting tinted lenses.
>>
>>58372175
Yes. Lenses get tinted. All lenses that are made are clear at first.
>>
>>58374633
You mean semi-rimless. Yes a lot of people don't understand the way things are made. You just have to make sure the frames + lenses pass make (make-ability). A store should tell you. Lenscrafters or pearl vision would let you know. Target optical and Sears optical would tell you as well.
>>
What's the most scratch-resistant material glasses are regularly made out of? My dad needs some shop glasses and he constantly scratches his current ones, to the point where it degrades the image.

>>58372175
of course, zenni optical and other online stores offer a ton of customization for lenses, including tints, mirror tints, transparent blue blocking (Gunnars, but not piss yellow) and transitions
>>
>>58374898
Plastic Hi-index 1.67 is the best for avoiding scratches.

Poly carbonate is the best of both worlds.

Glass is super clear but scratches and is heavy as fuck.

Lenscrafters can do all of the above with tints, anti reflective and everything else. Depending on which one you go to and if they have an AR machine, you could get them done in an hour. Let me know though if you plan on it as I can get you a discount

>>58364296
You must be looking for either /biz/ or /fa/

>>
>>58365653
>What glasses brands your corporation doesn't own?
Not OP, but I'm pretty sure they don't own Warby Parker or any of those websites that specialize in selling glasses purely online. There are also a ton of smaller boutiques that they don't own, like Moscot or brands like that.
>>
>>58375190
There are like 2 posts with something barely technological.

Most is /biz/
>>
>>58375248

I had 6 glasses so far. The last 3 glasses were two armani and tommy memefiger.
Lost the first armani when I was drunk, so bought the other one, I figured out that I don't like it anymore and the lens was scratched up as fuck. So I bought the tommy. It was pretty shit when I was laying on a pillow. Got into a fight and the left arm broke. Decided to repaint the second armani. It looks good now, bu the tommy's lenses don't fit in the frame. So I am here now with no glasses waiting on my first contact lenses and a new pair of lenses for the 'mani
Fuck I hate not having good vision.
>>
>>58376843
Could've went to lenscrafters and got them done in an hour
>>
>>58365595
Two.
First pair in middle school, lame af. "Outgrew" the prescription. Second pair maybe four years later. One lens cracked and one arm broken, taped it back on and continued using those for years. Last night I was drunk and I stuck my head out the window of a car going ~70mph and they flew off my face.
Only reason I bothered with this thread is I'll be getting a new pair soon.
>>
>>58377037
>lenscrafters

I live in europe, here, you have to wait 2 weeks at least.

Luxottica is an Italian company
>>
>>58365247
Their logic was probably "they're going to make this video anyways we should at least try and defend ourselves"
>>
>>58377896
I mean not really. They mark up stuff a HUGE percentage but really who doesn't
>>
>>58377213
Nope
>>
ok, so we know that the designer brands are a ripoff, but which brands that luxotica makes are actually a good value?
>>
Do you design the frames in-house or do the individual brands design their frames?

Do you have a manufacturing division or do you leave that to the chinks?
>>
>>58364296
Have there been any recent notable advances or non-stylistic changes in sunglasses?
are all of the brands Luxottica makes of equal quality?
What are your largest competitors?
Will AR be the next Bluetool?
>>
>>58378961
Good value? None of them. We only make designer frames

>>58378984
EVERYTHING is made in house by Luxottica. Prada, Chanel, Dior, Ray Ban and like 15 other brands. Same thing.

>>58379228
No competitors. 80% of the luxury brands are made by Luxottica

>Maybe you forgot that glasses have advanced technologylically. Same with shaving razors

/g/ is about particular tech. If we were to talk about anything that has "technologicality", we'd be talking about everything.

Glasses are secondary considering so many of us use them and it's directly related to working with computers. Shaving isn't.
>>
>>58364296
Why doesn't anyone make glasses like Silhouette?
>>
>>58379265
I'll at least applaud Luxottica for being able to stick their manufacturing in the West. If your product ever devalues to nearer a fair price, I hope you'll still make your products here.
>>
>>58380112
A lot of things are made in Italy too. Some pieces of products come from China too
>>
>>58380083
No clue

>>58379973
Never ask but I'd assume a lot of them that work at big companies. I'm sure a lot of them think guns have arms and legs and shoot people themselves though
>>
Say what you want about how expensive Luxottica frames are but I haven't had any complaints with their stuff. And if I'm wearing the glasses daily for 3 to 5 years having to pay $100 more for the frames doesn't mean shit.

>>58377412
Doesn't change the fact that some places don't actually make their own lenses. You try on the frames, choose something you like, and they send them with your prescription to a factory where the lenses are crafted and attached to the frames and then shipped back.
>>
>>58364373
heh
>>
>>58380755
I'm the one that works there lol. I never said the quality wasn't good. I could tell you up down left and right what to buy and what not to buy and which store to buy it from for whatever state you live in.
>>
I want shades but I'm torn between getting transition lenses and tinted lenses. Transitions are nice, on sunglass frames, they look off indoors as normal glasses.
>>
>>58382394
Transition an transition 7 look like shit in clear and tint form. Get AR clear Rx and then get ar tinted
