>>
Beautiful last time I checked it doesn't run on Windows
>>
>>58362216
KDE is a DE, not an OS.
>>
does anyone know how I can make the blue glow around the active window like kde used to do a few years ago?

Your top left tabulations have different spacings, and the icon even touches the border of one of the tabulations. Chrome.

Do you have a desktop, or laptop? If laptop, enjoy losing battery rapidly with that white as hell screen.
Also your eyesight - solarized is much nicer than that bright trash.

actually I will do it, writing a WM is a royal pain in the ass. Maybe I will end up forking mutter or sway. The desktop framework will be written exclusively in C/C++. Not even the widgets will be written in any other languages.

I like your idea of window specific resource monitor. Having something like this would be really nice and fancy.

However there are usually lots of shit going on other than the actual window, or the GUI frontend than the actual program.

And you are right. XLib is a horrible nightmare.
Fuck even the gtk is a nightmare. My other (longterm) project is to fix the file picker meme so I study gtk from time to time. You would be amazed to know that the file chooser alone contains around 9000 lines of autistic C codes.

>>
>>58374386
Didn't KDE 5 just change the backend around and change the theme?
>>
>>58374403
Every time I've tried it since the change from 4, it's had really bad stability issues.
The panels flickering, programs crashing for no reason, randomly ending sessions, nothing but the wallpaper appearing, no-multiscreen support, etc.

They've done this before with the switch from 3>4, and if history repeats itself then Plasma 5 will be rock solid for a year or so before they change over to Plasma 6 which will be a shitshow.
>>
>>58364206

>>

>>
>>58362190
KDE user here.

Pro: Dolphin is awesome.

Con: KIO sucks really bad. There's nothing like gvfs for KDE, and the KIO-fuse project never got finished. You basically have to cobble together your own solution using sshfs, curlftpfs (which is horrible), etc., with no help from the desktop. If any KDE developers are reading this, you should be ashamed of yourselves for working on KDE5 eye candy instead of supporting mountpoints right.

>>

KDE always feels cobbled together and incoherent. That's why GNOME is so much more pleasurable to work with. It's well integrated and feels like it has a singular vision behind it.

>KIO
>sucks

I remember how in the early Gnome 2 days, before Gvfs, it was GnomeVFS that sucked and KIO was the one that worked (at least that's what I heard back then, I never used KDE for a long time, never could get used to how windows-like it looked)

Funny how with FUSE and Gvfs things turned around and now it's Gnome (and GTK+, and XFCE) have the good virtual filesystem layer and (with the fuse bridge) it's my far the greatest and most compatible virtual filesystem on any OS
>>
>>58375404
When do you think the underlying technology in KDE went sour? KDE4 or KDE5?

Maybe earlier?
I'm just asking but I remember how in KDE2 and KDE3 days everyone was praising Kparts for being awesome and the best component system (or was it just hype and it was never good?)
>>
Is there a battery widget available for kde5 that shows battery percentage?
>>
>>58363980

how is compton better than xfce's own compositor?
>>
It's ironic, but back in the day people used KDE if they wanted a unified experience. You used Konqueror to browse the web, KMail to read emails, etc, and all the KDE 'suite' was advanced, polished and stable.

Now the tables have turned. Most of the KDE programs are outdated or shit, but GNOME presents a more unified desktop. You can do reasonably well without anything GNOME/GTK. The only difference is that GNOME stuff seems to always be simpler than KDE stuff ever was.
>>
>>58376723
xfce's own compositor causes tearing because it isn't synced to refresh rate via glx (as compton is)
